THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Hmm a lot of info dump this episode.

The Walkure, world developments, Protoculture, etc..I'm also kinda speculating that Mikumo is android or some sort of machine.
All the past that connects from events to the present and perhaps future. Wow. Poor Mikumo though, she is in a coma now. Curious to see the White Knight Keith's next move.

Ah Mirage, I guess she didn't know that Hayate was awake when she was by his bedside.

So Mikumo is not exactly part of Protoculture itself but an android created by them? Not that surprising. Nice connection to Macross Plus.
s
Also lots of interesting lore about how songs work that even retroactively explains stuff as far back as SDF Macross. Also interesting implications about Protoculture themselves as a race considering the way they meant to use the songs.

And with Var being connected to Vajra and Mao Nome supposedly having died in Vajra attack I am even more suspicious of her fate.

And people who whined at the start about Kawamori possibly being blinded by idol culture, I guess we now get to see the dark side that disproves that.

For a cranky old Macross fan like me this episode was pure fanservice goodness!! It's a good job creating a red thread across of all the iterations of Macross. And nice ED to boot.

Mikumo being an android was not that much of a surprise at this point. I do wonder what kind of technology they use to put her together.

Dat Mirage handholding scene was pretty cute.

Apparantly Kawamori thought up Mikumo when he was writing "Do You remember Love?".

In fact in the movie there's even a remark on how Minmay's song is affecting Zentradi on a genetic level.

The confirmation of Protoculture having had the song powers raises interesting questions about their interactions with both Protodevilin and Vajra too...It seems that the failure in interaction might not be because they did not have the means but BECAUSE their intentions were different. They music was not to communicate. It was to control and take over...

So epsilon sells atleast 3 type of Deneb-esque ships; one with large dorsal turrets, without dorsal turrets and one heavily modified catamarran style with a flight deck. Are epsilon connected to Macross Galaxy that had played with Vajra? Or is the Deneb just such a modular and good platform?

Also they apperently sell alarm clock as well, talking about expanding business.

Not The best info dump, plot device explain episode but a lot better than most show these days without one, I did not expect they throw in the frontier aliens this way, they may as well, make the protoculture people invent the songs against var instead of against their own troops rebelling.
A whole plot about those guys should be written to make dots connect by this point if the overall series.
An episode that brought back old series in a logical way, excellent series so far, on explaining plot elements and logic.

He said android, but it probably doesn't mean robot. It's most likely a biological creation, and it seems the Protoculture had a whole bunch of them as shown in this picture. Mikumo's one of these ones, or a new one Lady M created out of some Proculture DNA.

They sure do explain a lot this time, seeing the connections they made to the other events in the series was a treat and couldn’t avoid having a smile on my face during this crazy barrage of information.

The moment I heard “Wanna Be An Angel” instantly made me want to watch the Macross Plus movie again.

The movie is always canon, given the vf-31 is base on the one shown in the movie, and the conclusion is directly mentioned in this series, there shouldn't be doubt.
The only thing that isn't canon is Macross 2 ova series.

31 is based on YF-30, which comes from the game Macross 30.... I dont think either show or movie is a definitive canon, but rather recreations in-universe.

Yeah, there's no true canon in Macross. Kawamori just takes whatever pieces of backstory he needs to advance the plot. In this episode, for example, you can see stuff from both SDF tv and DYRL movie.

So is Lady M one of the previous Macross female lead? I still hope we get to see Sheryl and Ranka if that possible.
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

A fine barrage of information, they finally tied the series (properly) to the previous iterations of Macross. In that respect, it truly was an enjoyable episode. On a related note, I hope this was not the swansong of that Epsilon guy.

One can conclude that music is a true multi-use weapon, capable of subjugating as well as connecting.

i am not surprised the ratio of this series is lower than Macross F

this episodes seems a cheap attempt to put the pieces together by admitting that songs had real power on physical world since the very beginning of macross

but what's more messed up, is that 58 years after the destruction of the earth, and 54 years after the colonization of the first extraterrestrial planet, the sons and grandsons of the few survivors have already gone nazi, and declared their superiority to the other (few) human nations, (including their fathers, grandfathers and everyone who is older than 55)

or some descendant from Minn Mai

For the past few episodes everytime the captain mentioned Lady M, I thought he was refering to Mikumo, but in this episode it was quite clear Mikumo is a test tube baby manufactured to sing, and Lady M, their Boss is another entity that have yet to show her face in the show.

Hardly possible as of the Macross that was boarded by Hikaru Ichijou, Misa Hayase and Minmay went Missing, and was never found even in Frontier.

The whole sub plot of the sponsor of SMS in Frontier was using the Vajra hive mind link to find Minmay. Referring to time, Lady M should have been in power even before Frontier happened.

To be honest, every time I think the show picked up its pace and we gonna get some good stuff. They gotta throw some filler in it. (-_-) I'm not impressed.

I liked how the corporate guy have the balls to go straight to Elysion and talk to them BUT WHY THE HECK THERE'S NAIL POLISH ON A GUY????? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY... There goes the anime budget.

Storywise for the episode is pretty meh. 3/5. The typical corporate guy goes to hero base to mess with their moral and hero wakes up stuff...

I've just looked up what Kawamori have been doing between Macross F and M.Delta.

Apparently, AKB0048... Well, there goes the cash grab. I can't really say Macross Delta is not a Macross but what I can say is:

It's the same as Mega Man and Mighty Number 9. It does what it does but at a rather mediocre, wannabe innovative, overhyped and overshadowed by its predecessors.

I'm not mad, I'm disappointed by what I was hoping (maybe to the point of getting blind by the former glory that it has lived) at the end of a 8 year wait.

I'll stay till the end show but I'm honestly disappointed.

You are not watching the show too fast. You outright are not watching it.

Protoculture seeded worlds with species of similar genetic make-up to themselves because their intention was to colonize and assimilate them. Which means the races they created had to be fitting for procreation, as in their DNA had to be similar to Protoculture.

The only rational species taht protoculture did not create are Vajra and Protodevilns and they both look and act significantly differently from the rest.

Orrrr that's just what elitists with rose-tinted glasses want you to think. This shit has been being said about every single Macross after SDF and the franchise is still standing no matter what SDF "muh srs military"(despite SDF being just as silly as this) want people to think.

you are right, im not watching, im going fast fordward in episodes hoping to see some kind of developement that makes sense
but dont worry, im not going to follow delta anymore, i quit
also trying to explain to you the reasons this is not an evolution of macross but just an idol fan service is pointless
so there is no need to discuss anymore, you have your opinion and i do have mine ^_^

i just will leave with a HUGE SPOILER about delta
cause i talked with kawamori and i know how will actually end?
nope, cause i watched anime for 35 years and how will end is obvious :
some enemies will become friends, will understand their mistakes, and will have an happy life full of friendship and love...
we will also forget the thousands peoples they slaughtered in the name of space nazism and their birthright over protoculture, cause the power of a love song is stronger than hatred and one or two genocides

see you ^_^

I'm actually pretty shocked that they went down the route of "music has actual powers". I mean it makes sense and works with the entire franchise, but it was still a bold move. I'm not sure if I like this move or not but I will say again, it works given the franchise, I saw someone call it cheap but I don't really agree.

While they may not have intended for this when creating the previous Macross series I think they did a great job of using events from them as believable foreshadowing. The one thing I did like about the story developments was that the Vajra being the cause of the var madness.

All things considered this was a pretty good episode from a story-telling perspective. I'm actually really happy that they decided to link up all (or most anyway) of the original Macross Timelines to incorporate into the explanation of just what Var and the current threat they are facing is. Makes for a whole lot better of an experience than just the contained periodical conflicts that we sometimes get in this franchise.

Hmm, I'm more interested if the Space Arab Anaheim Electronics expy is spewing stuff that is conjecture and thus subject to unreliable narrator, or if that actually is Kawamori actually giving songs powers and that they were there all along as the ultimate weapon of war. Or you know, both at once.
