THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Do tell me if i just zoned out and missed something important, but from what i've noticed, it seems that there were no significant changes from the OVA so far. So, three episodes of footage from the OVA with little to no changes at all.

...Yeah, i think i'll pass on this one. I didn't even like Unicorn that much (which isn't to say i particularly disliked it, i just didn't like it as much as some of the people i know did), so i really don't care much for this. I'll just be on the sidelines, rooting for Bandai to release an Aqua GM HGUC kit.

Maybe the reason for that lazy ass cut at the end was because they were hard at work animating new scenes for the later episodes, whilst not bothering to fix animation errors that existed in the OVA

>.>

What a shitty place to end it too

Anyway I think this episode settles the debate as to whether one should watch the OVA or the TV series... as if there were any such debate to begin with.

HAHA, I can't believe they were so lazy they didn't even bother to edit the cut into OVA 2. I thought it was a bit odd when I found out the dub version was being released at the same time as the Japanese version (Yeah that's how it was originally, but I'd imagine it would take some time to bring it over to the States if there was going to be new footage added). I don't have any real expectations for significant new footage at this point, but I'll continue to watch cause I enjoyed Unicorn the first time around.

That transition though LMAO, man even ignoring that transition the pacing is just wack. The OVA ending with Audrey saying Gundam left me hyped as fuck! They should have tried to do that somehow.. maybe adding a scene or two to pad it out a bit.

I'll have to admit, this is the first Gundam Series I've ever watching and one of the first mecha, so I have little to compare it too, escpecially since I'm not familiar with the OVAs... But even though I normally don't like Mecha in Anime, the first 3 episodes were a good start IMO, at least it leaves me hoping for more.

I hope you at least have some background knowledge of the Universal Century then, because this series is basically about bringing that history to a close.

Well actually, I don't. I will have to see whether the missing knowledge will turn out to be a problem or not, but if I don't grasp the idea behind the story, could you recommend me a Gundam Series where it is explained? Thanks :D

At an absolute minimum, you need to know what newtypes are, who Char Aznable is, what the Axis Shock was, and what the One Year War was.

Unicorn kind of presumes knowledge of at least 0079, Zeta, ZZ, and Char's Counterattack. 0079 was condensed into three movies if you want a summary, as was Zeta, although the ending was changed and is non-canon to Unicorn. A condensed version of ZZ unfortunately doesn't exist, and it's 47 episodes. Char's Counterattack is a movie. I suppose if you don't want to go to all the trouble, you could just watch the compilation movies, then watch the last episode of Zeta to see how the ending differs, then read plot summaries of ZZ or something before watching Char's Counterattack. If you REALLY can't be bothered, you could read episode summaries of everything and download certain episodes for reference when you feel you need it, but that's pretty un-ideal in my opinion.

People say this is Zeonic fan-service yet they do show some reactions of civilians and Feddies dying like that teacher who leaned on the door to protect the others from the explosion.

The dubbed audio (i.e. the Daisuki stream) between 19:27 and 19:54 almost feels like the Wing dub by Ocean.

Novels I have read/am reading pending approval: since November 10 2022

That cut was pretty terrible, but this episode still got me as hyped as the OVAs did, but to be honest the introduction of Full Frontal was pretty underwhelming in comparison to the OVAs.

ALso to anyone who still remembers ZZ

Anyway I think this episode settles the debate as to whether one should watch the OVA or the TV series... as if there were any such debate to begin with.
To be honest I still think we should wait until after the 'new content' that's supposed to come with this TV series to see if it's worth going through the TV series instead of the OVAs, but so far I'm still leaning towards the OVAs.

No amount of new content can possibly fix all the spoilers in the opening.

This is clearly not intended for 1st time watchers.

Yeah, it's always been like that. I remember Puru 1 flip-flopping between "Judau Onii-chan!" and "THE GUNDAM'S THE ENEMY KILL IT". Same for Puru 2, minus the flip-flopping.

Well it was okay, I guess. It's been a long time since I've watched Unicorn and I'm reminded just now how great the fight scenes were in this one.

Hmm the cut didn't bother me they probably knew what they were doing maybe they did that because a gunpla commercial aired there or because of the suprerior presentation than the part without the cut that plays right afterwards

I am really digging the new content even if it was little in this episode the ending especially made me really curious

The third episode is beautiful and you must see, the space for dialogue even if there are will be incomprehensible for beginners, but this does not require a sacrifice with regard to the action, then no one can avail a whole complain of the final result . Graphics and animations are great and the soundtrack is no exception. Unfortunately it is always the fault of the responsibility of Daisuki subtitles, not exceptional.
Too bad for the final cut, but I hope he has a reason.

You guys do realize the cut you're complaining about is a commercial break, right?
When people were actually watching on tv it's not as jarring as seeing it without the commercial between the two scenes. While I agree it's lazy it's nothing that unusual.

Very bad editing toward the end, this cut was too abrupt without any eyecatch, plus isn't it usually around the 10th or 12th minute?

Nice to see a "Gundam" who's not montruously gigantic again.

Casval is back, alive?! o_O Instant reaction: then Amuro too !!

4/5

edit: "The Gundam was the Federation's first MS." ah? Seriously? A future Anaheim engineer doesn't know the Guncannon ?

@peetza My bad, the way the Unicorn normal form is designed makes it look like it's shorter / less massive than the big metal monsters that the Nu, Sazabi or Nightingale (or even ZZ) are. That's probably where my bad assumption comes from.

This pacing is very interesting for a Gundam TV series, what with it just being chopped up from bigger chunks. I think having it split up with recaps at the start of episodes might help me retain all the hammy political BS better than usual xP I was very pleased that there was ample robot destruction this whole episode, as well.

I guess because I haven't seen the OVA, but I didn't even notice an awkward cut. Sounds like it was where they placed the gunpla commercial in the Gundam Info YT upload.

That bugged me too about that kid. I mean, the OYW was less than 20 years ago, how do people forget about it so quickly? Also isn't the Unicorn like 22 meters? I know it stands comparable to the Nu, well above the OG Gundam's 18 meter height.

Edit: @Rei366 I see what you mean, the Unicorn definitely looks thin and lanky compared to some of its immediate predecessors xD

Finally a good episode. Amazing battles and some interesting twists. These 3 episodes look like more like an introduction to the series than anything else.
