Personally, I didn't find the first episode that impressive. It seems to be kind of funny, though I hear that it's a big feels trip later.

The first episode was good. The music played in the anime was really nice and the plot seems good too.

Same. With the boy-meets-girl opening, it's hard to see how the show differentiates itself from other shounen-shoujo ones - but that just really might be a necessary evil given a limited budget. The feels trip itself is nothing especially unique in the drama-romance genre, but it seems to have definitely hit home with a lot of people. The OVA is a must-watch.

I liked how the show took on the classical music theme. Needless to say, that's also a reason why some find the show uninteresting, with many still frames and a piano simply being played in the background - though they did try to be creative with some of those. All of that said, I think I had a more enjoyable time watching Nodame Cantabile. But that's just my bias toward Seinen and Josei.

On ep 20/22.

While the first episode may seem standard for any romance, there's more than meets the eye. The backstory and characterization is definitely fleshed out later on, and the music of this anime is fantastic (it's a music-based anime, so duh). While I may have a bit of a bias as I play classical music on the piano myself, I feel like the choice of pieces for the anime truly bring the emotions of the characters to life (or further complement the plot). It's definitely worth a shot!
