| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- The good thing about the OVA? Uncensored. No shitty camera parody or those goofy chibi avatars. As for the episode itself, it looks like Mio isn't doing so well for the first half. The bath scenes didn't surprise me since it's almost like a trademark for this franchise now. Basara had too much fun with Chisato. Otherwise, it was mindless entertainment. |

| The OVA was different alright and from the looks it, it would seem that the OVA used two stories from the light novels volume 4 and 6. I think the first half of the Ova was part of vol. 6 where Maria was using a banana and the second half of the OVA was part of vol. 4 where Basara was going to the nurses office and going home with Chisato. Even though it was RAW but the OVA was very funny, and Basara never disappoint me. |

Shinmai just go further and the guy really "interact" with the girls instead of just stay still while they try to seduce him (a very annoying ecchi cliche that Shinmai kinda deconstruct). Animation wise bot DxD and Shinmai are poor, but Shinmai is better than DxD (in the BD version where they correct a lot of stuff). Even in DxD Bluray, where they are supposed to correct the bad frames you can find stuff like these in DxD -> https://a.disquscdn.com/uploads/mediaembed/images/1832/6850/original.jpg DxD action has tons of still frames, while Shinmai try to make the fights more fluid, even if they have to sacrifice some character design consistency. But honestly, both of them are bad. About the plot: DxD has a interesting world and he explores it better, i agree. Shinmai story is pretty much "protect Mio", at least in the S1. About characters: Rias is great, much better than Mio, they try something with Akeno too, even if they butchered it in the anime S3....the others went in the "add some random tragic past" formula and this is it. Shinmai only has Maria as a charismatic character, Mio with her random tragic past formula and the childhood friend. Shinmai has a better MC though, that do what he need to do with the girls and fight seriously, no jokes, no "oppai oppai", he just take the fights very seriously. And while this is personal i kinda prefer Shinmai ecchi because i'm tired of just seeing boobs and MCs that do nothing with womens offering themselves to them. I already said this before in other discussion but in my opinion Shinmai has what DxD lacks, and DxD has what Shinmai lacks. Mix DxD world building and girls (+Maria and Nurse from Shinmai) with Shinmai MC, serious fights and ecchi scenes and we would have the perfect action/ecchi series (in my opinion). We should move to studio Arms too, since both TNK and TMS are kinda bad in this department. Samurai Girls from ARMs is much better animated than both DxD and Shinmai (the plot and MC are boring but that has nothing to do with "animation"). |
