Maruo's dad is awesome as usual. I really liked his conversation with Coach Aoi, especially the coach's reactions. I'm also really glad that Maruo's dad didn't cave on the promise. if he had, it would have been a death flag for Maruo's chances in the tournament.

I wonder what this new thing he's going to try will be?

Spoiler: next chapter Ogata DIES because ''SOMEONE'' wrote something ''DOWN'' on that (secret) notebook.

He also pulls out a bag of chips and starts eating dramatically.

I don't know about that. In this panel it seems he won't let him ignore the promise.

Also, loving Ogata. Really liking his character.

Epic! One of the best matches so far :D

Ogata is amazing! I'm loving this guy. And I absolutely loved Ei's face at the end when he started writing something on the note book. Looked so serious!! I can't friggin wait to see what it is?!

Loved Aoi and Maruo's dad's conversation. Lose flags and win flags were being exchanged left and right XD But the end with how his dad said that even if he's facing a challenge this strong, even if this wasn't tennis he'll face unfair and unexpected difficulties in life so he'll have to break through! And he wants Ei to keep his promise.

BA DAD Right there ^^ Coach Aoi just got coached XD

Haven't seen Maruo getting dominated like this in awhile, since perhaps Nabae from what I recall.

Tbh this is looking like a loss, but then again who knows with Maruo and his perseverance despite the overwhelming odds.

Maruo had a good start but once Ogata turned up the jets he didn't stand a chance. We haven't seen Maruo attempt to grasp at any straws possible and not get a single thing in his favor in a long time. This is reminiscent of the first Maruo vs Nabae match and that is scary. Ogata is already being speculated to be able to defeat Nabae by the audience and he is clearly showing why he's able to keep up with Ike! He understands everything Maruo is doing and understands all of his strengths already. Unlike Okada who took the entire match to view Maruo as his equal, Ogata already stated that the incredible part of Maruo is how every single shot has meaning. I hadn't expected this from someone we hadn't seen much of, and it is scary. Maruo has seriously tried everything and got mauled.

Aoi and Maruo's father had an interesting discussion. I love the Miyagawa type advice that this battle between Maruo and Ogata is something he will find time and time again in every avenue of life. Battles that seem impossible to overcome. To give up in a match like this is indicative of life in general, and to be able to experience such an eye to eye battle with someone else like this will set up Maruo in the long run of life. I also adore the line about how, under a different drawing, this could have been grand finals. Sadly, this is the case in tournament play. Often losing earlier than you did last tournament doesn't mean you got worse or didn't play good enough, its that the luck wasn't in your favor(unless you're top 10). To go into matches seeking some form of validation is toxic and it's important to understand this.

The final two pages were some of my favorites from this set. Maruo's intense determination to do something he's never done before to poke a hole in Ogata's game plan was scary. He's ready to kill. I recall him looking like this when his body took over in the Araya match and in few other occasions, but for him to look this cutthroat is always a sight to see.
