A decent ending but man the Tōryanse song sure is catchy :3 All in all these two episodes don't show much but it has a nice touch to it on how it develops. I wonder what the pure version will offer us!

What the hell did I just watch?? That was weirdly engaging but a total clusterfuck in many ways.

Itsuki (admittedly in the dub) says after reuniting with the unbeknownst to her 'ghost' Yousuke that she must have been hallucinating after seeing him be stabbed to death. All the while just having been rescued after being chased by those same bikers who had the intention of raping and killing her precisely BECAUSE she saw them stab Yousuke!!! Seriously WTF!? Even in the Japanese she is, albeit wrongly, relieved to learn it wasn't Yousuke that she saw BUT that still doesn't change the fact you witnessed a fucking murder take place for christ sake. She just acts completely nonchalantly about it all afterwards.

Also why doesn't Iori just swim? We are never told that she can't so far as I'm aware. She would have had ample opportunity before the weather got too bad to swim back to shore once she realized that the island would go underwater. Which it is best remembered that she is the character we saw being told this fact. So 100% she is the character that should have known this was going to happen. Another thing she would have been able to see her other friends near the bikers as the whole confrontation was visible from the island. Why doesn't she try and signal her friends, or at the very least swim close enough so they could hear her calls for help.

Yet another thing, Seto remembers the cave to the tree entrance on the island. But the genius is surprised to learn it's flooded once he gets there. Seriously how dumb do you have to be the tree's cave entrance has been visibly underwater even before the storm started.

And another thing! Yousuke gets murdered for what exactly? Apparently because he doesn't want to bang Iori. That was literally it, the bikers think he is lying (he isn't) so they decide this is reason enough to kill him!? That is absurd! Weirdly also is how did Yousuke even know about Iori's photoshoot. It wasn't clear at the time but Yousuke isn't even there to meet Iori, he was there to meet Seto and Itsuki. I didn't really get that.

This was just a bizarre OVA. The melodrama was ridiculous and so over the top. Nothing about this was the least bit realistic, these sort of events are seldom normal exactly so to see the characters basically brush off seeing a friend be murdered, being chased by said murderers, rescuing your friends Tarzan style and almost drowning as just another day in their lives was just preposterous to say the least.

I hope that the Pure series I'm watching next is a little more grounded, although if it isn't I'm curious just want insanity awaits me.

On one hand, it's sad their friend died without them really realizing it.

On the other hand, this is clearly non canon.

Since this is happening after Itsuki left and before Ichitaka's confession to Iori, this must be happening the same summer Ichitaka met Izumi before his final high school year.

The manga gives off the impression that Ichitaka have not seen Itsuki since she left, and this Yosuke guy came out of nowhere just for this OVA.

Also, Iori went straight to the idol route in the manga, and I don't recall she started doing this during the summer. And in one of the later chapters when she was locked away doing her idol work, it was shown that she can swim, and she uses the pool in her prison-like idol work place regularly. But here, they made it out like being in the water physically weakens Iori lol

All in all, it's a sad story, but it's also not really canon.

Aww, poor Yosuke. He really died.

I envy Ichitaka, he can swim. I really need to learn how to swim in case I need to rescue a damsel in distress.

Overall, it's a bizarre OVA and kinda boring at the same time. 5/10
