Well, it was a pretty nice chapter at the end, kind of a bit of romance I guess . . . Overall the series was okay, it wasn't great and I do prefer when the romance moves faster (i.e. they don't spend 25+ chapters wondering if "he/she likes me") but overall I can't complain, I did enjoy it. 6/10

I dislike the whole "make a big deal out of a trip (do we have sex or not)" like if they were to make love that'd be the most unromantic sex ever.

As for the manga, I stopped seriously reading it in the last few chapters and just skimmed through the pages. The tone shift in the middle of the series while was funny, really make me careless about any of the development, like it was just.. whatever.

The story also took forever to develop with repetitive drama. They overplayed the Yura drama and it was ridiculous. Mangaka also didn't know what to do with his character until much later, the scar on his body just came out of nowhere.

This is a what could've been a great romantic manga but a very annoying one.

I also feel like I have to mention Hayama, he's a pretty funny dude but I didn't like how the mangaka attempted to make his relationship with the other girl who went to Germany romantic in a side-story chapter, but make him lust over another girl in her absence (Kyo-ko) and only to make Hayama look like a huge pervert by basically asking the other girl to go to a love hotel with him when she returned and go on a date with him. Makes me feel like he only wanted to have sex, very unromantic.

I honestly feel the same for the most part. Yura could’ve had a great redemption arc after his suicide attempt in the fire but this is a comedy manga so the tone felt very adrupt after Yuras arc was over. The first half of the manga was so good up until that point. Also, I’m honestly not a fan of Chiharu since both him and Kyo were pretty abusive to each other. I didn’t like how Chiharu was always rude with her to begin with, even after he found out Kyo is a female. Their chemistry just felt misogynistic to me at the end of it all. Especially when “fighting = flirting” was much emphasized in this manga. I wouldn’t have minded if she ended up with Yura instead of Chiharu. But then again, I think she deserves someone better than either of them. I did really like the basketball game between the team and the principal though. It reminded me a lot of Space Jam and I couldn’t help but enjoy it. I would not be surprised if Space Jam had some influence on this manga.

Either way, I gave the manga a 7/10, mainly for the humor and chemistry’s between all the characters, and of course, the focus on basketball. The story was still able to flow like I expected it to despite its setbacks like Yura and Akemi.
Also, Kyo’s character development was one of my favorites things about this series. I know Japan treats sports differently to some extent but this was the early 2000s, idk what it’s like now, but for the time this was a great way to show that gender should not matter in sports. She obviously proved herself before anyone found out she was a girl. I give the manga artist much credit for this.
