The discussion about Dragon Ball is mostly Z, but what about OG Dragon Ball. Which is the best Saga?

I honestly don’t know which one is the best, but I voted Pilaf/Hunt for the Dragon Balls because is the most nostalgic to me.

The last 3 are all top tier but I would have say King Piccolo saga. The stakes were crazy with everyone getting killed off, including Shenron. Also seeing Goku in such a hopeless state and having King Piccolo's plans all succeed was a huge tonal shift. My only criticism with it is the holy water power up, but other than that it has higher highs than the other two but they also succeed in different categories

As much as I like the King Piccolo arc, it took so many story beats from the Red Ribbon Army arc. Kinto'un gets destroyed in both. Goku gets defeated and the villain leaves because he thinks that Goku is dead. This is done objectively worse in the King Piccolo arc because Goku's heart starts beating again for absolutely no reason. Then, Goku has to get some special water from Karin in order to power up and defeat the villain. Again, this is handled worse-at least in the manga-in the King Piccolo arc. The changes made to this in the anime are much more interesting, though.

Because of this I have to say I prefer the Red Ribbon Army arc. However, I love how dire the situation against King Piccolo feels. Seeing him kill Shen Long is still one of my favorite scenes in the franchise.

It's the first hunt for the Dragon Balls for me; Pilaf and his goons are some of my favourite villains of all time, Yamcha being introduced as this cool desert bandit who then turns out to be a goofy idiot (he's still my favourite character from OG despite everything), general misadventures, and as short-lived as it was I do like how Bulma and Yamcha both kinda get what they wanted to wish for along the way. It's short and sweet, and I'd probably even say it's my favourite arc of Dragon Ball as a whole.
I do like all the Tenkaichi Budoukais, they absolutely do stick the landing when it counts; Goku versus Tenshinhan is the best fight in the entire series, and the announcer does a fantastic job of things, but I think they all just have parts I'm not super fond of. I also now realise the irony of me saying they stick the landing right before mentioning Goku versus Tenshinhan.
The Red Ribbon Army was my least favourite part of OG and it's also the longest, which isn't an ideal combination. Can't say I quite remember why though, it just wasn't doing it for me really until the fight with Murasaki, and the less said about Colonel Blue the better.
No issues with the Piccolo Daimaou saga, it's just not my favourite.

I like most of the sagas fairly equally as they were each great in their own way, though I feel like I liked the red ribbon army section the least.

I don't remember since it's been forever since I last watched it but it's one of the tournament arcs.

If we're talking anime, Pilaf and the 1st tournament are the best because they have the least filler.

King Piccolo most definitely, everyone causally getting killed off was the most shocking as that is something that never happened till that point, it's not the most well written tho, especially with gokus heart randomly just beating again, and the ultra divine water just suddenly happening and acting like a quick fix, which objectively isn't the best type of writing, but the overall arc does have some sort of suspense that keeps you hooked

I like that the anime adds a quest, but I don't think the quest itself is good.

@Sanokii I went for this because it contains the Korin tower arc. Peak feels imo.

@WingsR There is some tedious stuff about the RR saga, like muscle tower. But it's got some great stuff too, like the Korin arc and, imo, the underwater pirate cave.
