The art direction, the dedication and most importantly the fact the creators don't give a shit about their audiences sensitive feelings all makes this anime truly unique. Of course there are parts of the anime that play around with some VERY questionable interactions between adults and children but ultimately if you are able to get past the iffy shit. then the rest of the show still delivers on a thrilling experience. Not everyone's cup of tea but surely as long as you remember the age of consent is 18 you should be pretty set and prepped to watch this master piece. Please take this review with a big fat ol' grain of salt as I don't know what the fuck I'm saying rn.

There’s no way this is some people’s favorite anime. People are tasteless fr, I advise watching more shows with less “child related” content..

I'm a little upset I slept on this great show for years, but I'm also a little grateful because the second season is already out.

While it had its heart-wrenching moments, it is still not as traumatizing as Berserk.
If you are going to disagree with me, don't bother talking to me. I will seriously hurt you!

I like how the animating style made it feel like a childish show, but it is dark.

Great episode! I cried when I saw Mitty's past T_T. I can't believe those people made the children guinea pigs, how many are not suffering.

Finally Riko, she still knew that there was someone there even though she didn't see it. 9/10

I think Mitty's backstory should have been that they are BFFs for a long time, and that shes the only friend she had. Like, how many of you still grope of that kid you friended at the macdonalds playplace 15 years ago

What a ride this adventure has been. The adventure aspect of the anime was great overall with sad and happy scenes and all and the whole Nanachi and Mitty story when they're still human were pretty heartbreaking to watch through.

I think that nanachi might be one of the best written characters I have ever seen, or at least her character developement with miitty is one of the best I have ever seen. I was absolutely bawling during the killing scene, and I was left silently absorbing the ending sequence with the balloon. this episode was an amazing end to an amazing season of an amazing show.

I am very excited to continue this anime.

MITTY!!! That was one sad backstory. The studio made the right descision extending the runtime of the episode this time.

Mitty's send off was masterfully done as well. The music, voice acting and everything was perfect. When Nanachi was crying and called Mitty her treasure, I knew, this is a great anime.

Seeing Mitty killed in such a peaceful place surrounded by stuffed animals was so bittersweet, it made me tear up. It felt like seeing a sick dog being put down. That along with the final sequence of the balloon going up was phenomenal. I don't normally notice the soundtrack of an anime but the songs present all throughout this show were so good, especially the one at the end of this episode, it gave me goosebumps.

This is one of the best anime episodes I have ever seen. It's that good.

The Anime is beautiful, truly. The music, the writing, the world. This last episode really got to me, I was crying like a baby. I'm rating the first season a 9/10, it would be a 10/10 if it wasn't for the authors tendency to sexualise children... It's really fucking strange to be honest, and it makes me sad that both the anime and manga have be stained by this. Putting that aside though, the story, animation, characters and music are amazing.

Obviously the extent of Mitty's sapience is hard to verify, and both her intellect and ability to communicate were either presumably or demonstrably inhibited by the degradation of her form; however, even the remaining basal consciousness of hers, flashbacks to her brief friendship with Nanachi and her symbolic appearances in Riko's dream did a lot to endear even considering Mitty's relative lack of screentime. Have to praise the sentimental appeal there, because it's hard for many series to pull this off for recently introduced characters without seeming abrupt, and thus ineffective.

This is excellent stuff so far. I don't really have any resounding complaints with it, outside of a few questions about Reg's composition as a lifeform, or Riko's varying levels of competence in dealing with the Abyss. There was a real effort to invest in fleshing out an already workable premise by spacing out both the action and the downtime to maximise immersion into the world itself, and it never faltered when it came to characterisation of even those who only had side roles in an episode or two.

That the Abyss is presented more as a dynamic environment wherein its respective layers all impact/interact with each-other—rather than some on-rails episodic amusement park with merely linear progression from top to bottom—makes it come across as a lived in world as well.

This season was truly something special. Looking at the season as a whole, I would rate it a solid 9.5. The story is incredibly well thought-out and is beautifully executed on screen. Mitty’s backstory was heart-wrenching—it hit me in this episode.

When I reflect on the anime series I’ve enjoyed, this one will stand out to me as something special, bringing a deeper level of appreciation. And the soundtrack—just wow! I’m really looking forward to continuing following our main characters journey and seeing where the rest of the story goes.
