Definitely nothing 2025, but 2026 onwards could be possible depending on how many other shows A-1 does at that point in time.
Sometimes you see the most random and unknown anime getting new seasons so it's not completely dependant on popularity and profit i guess which would be good for 86 since it's not the money maker.

Don't wait for season 2 right now. This may be because A-1 Pictures makes different anime and also because 86 is such a little known anime. So more than 2 years have passed but there is still no development about s2. Instead, continue from volume 4 of the light novel. You can even start reading from the first volume as some parts were not adapted in volume 1.

A1 Pictures are not the ones deciding if the LN gets a anime sequel.

Dengeki Bunko (Kadokawa) are the ones making the decisions.

Dengeki Bunko titles get sequels but very rare. Most their anime are ‘shut up and buy the LNs’~

I doubt it will get a second season.

First season (ep 1 - 11) is book 1. season 2 (12-23) are books 2 and 3.

book 4 is a giant battle sequence which would likely be 4-6 episodes. Similar to how they adapted book 3. The 5th book goes heavy into the high concept Sci fi a different setting, tone and vibe and needs its own season.

A-1 pictures has different team for different projects. A studio is just a banner for the projects. Kagua is not getting a sequel anytime soon. The team that worked on Kaguya is now doing Makeine which is supposed to receive a s2.

You're wrong there too. Kadokawa wasn't the producer for 86 anime. It's a parent company of A-1 and CloverWorks named ANIPLEX

The problem is A-1. As big as they are they have too many more profitable projects that have been plagued with delays. IE Fate/ Strange Fake and Nier. Plus Solo Leveling has been given priority over other projects occasionally new SAO will get mentioned. I wish Bandai/Sunrise would take it over since they are invested in it with model kits and the production of the anime. Plus with no new Gundam series or AMAIM Warrior at the Borderline to speak of it just makes sense.

Yes, of course, it's not as successful as them, but they got back all the money they spent on the anime and continue to do so (thanks to new figures and re-released headphones).

The only info i do have is that 86's production line (team inside of a-1 pictures) is the same as Nier automata's. Now that Nier automata's release and production has wrapped up (it was supposed to be a split cour from the start) there is a gap for a different project. which could ofcourse be 86 but there are plenty of other things it could be too so don't get your hopes up too much, it's just a possibility now that the staff for it is available

Ditto. I’m a Full Metal Panic/Fumoffu fanboy. Saw the series for the first time in 2004 on a Time Warner Cable “TV On-Demand” channel. The series came out in 2003-2004 and the remake was made in 2018 and came to Crunchy Roll in 2020. So nothing is off the table if they could bring that back.
