So I haven't watched One Piece in awhile (like roughly more than half a year), and the last episode I watched is 140. So I was wondering how far in one piece I need to be in order to understand what's happening in the episode while also not spoiling myself because I've read people's comments on how this episode has a very impactful meaning. Please provide me estimated amount episodes I need to be caught up with, thank you.

Well you should at least have watched episode 522 I think it was. The 25th story arc, Fish-man Island starts at episode 523 so watch at least episode 522 before watching this. Otherwise, you'll get spoiled quite heavily.
That is my opinion.

Between ep 522-533, essentially the start of post time skip. The episode covers three arcs, sabotory arc, marine fort and the start of post time skip. Which all of these are between ep 410 to 533 give or take.

If you want return to One Piece, I recommend mamga more. Anime is to stretched. I watch 73 episode of anime, and it was already like that. When I heard that is even worse further, I switched to the manga.

140 is filler, so you should start from chapter 218. If you choose manga.

Nah no need to catch up fast. I told myself that I wanted to catch up as fast as possible when I started my One Piece journey because I wanted to to be caught up when episode 1000 aired but I started watching over 3 years ago and just hit episode 1000 a few weeks ago and am now dreading being caught up because I don't want to have to wait for new episodes like everyone else. I assure you that you will feel like you have to watch the show as fast as possible when you first start but I cannot stress enough to just take your time and enjoy the adventure.

I also disagree with alot of the comments about pacing, not only is all the pre time skip pacing perfectly fine in my opinion, even the arcs that do have serious pacing issues aren't nearly as bad as everyone make them out to be when you have every single episode at your disposal. I can agree the pacing would've been unbearable had I been watching some of these arcs on a weekly basing but being able to watch as many episodes as you want at whatever pace you want really negates alot of the pacing issues in my opinion. That's just how I felt watching it anyway, I'm sure lots of people will run me down to tell me I'm wrong and the pacing is in fact dog shit but I really didn't notice it for the majority of the series.

Wow,3 years?!💀 It would've taken me 5 at most😭. But anyway, thanks for the response, I appreciate it coz I really enjoy the anime but the filler arcs are demotivating me to continue. So I've decided based on everyone's responses to this forum that I'll read the manga and watch only from ep 1000 onwards.

I got to episode 1000 in like 7 months, so once One Piece start airing again you should be starting Whole Cake or even Wano. You only need to watch like 4 episodes a day. Im not that good at math, but hear me out; correct me if Im wrong:

1 ep = 20 min (with out op, recap, ending)

3 ep = 1hr

1k ep / 3 ep = 333.33 hr

333.33 hr / 24 hr = 13.90 days

13.90 days / 6 months = 2.31 hr

so basically, if Im correct you should need approximately 6 ep a day to around mid of Wano arc.

@RizzardKing69 That's totally fair. I have since gone back and read the manga as well, I even bought all the box sets. So I can say that experiencing the story through the manga is just as fun and entertaining as watching the anime. I hope you enjoy it as much as me and so many others have and good luck to you on your One Piece journey.

@Skylar-whoo I mean you are mathematically correct I think, but I feel like if I have to spread sheet the optimal amount of episodes to watch per day like that then to me personally watching the show is gonna end up feeling like more of a chore then the actual fun adventure it's meant to be. Like I said in the post above, I think if you're new to One Piece you shouldn't worry about trying to get caught up as fast as you can and just enjoy the journey at whatever pace you personally enjoy watching it at.

Thank you for your response but I think I'll just switch to reading the manga, I can be quite a fast reader if I'm really invested^_^

Yeah I understand your point. I watched One Piece in that amount of time because I enjoy the story. Its just a recommendation in case that he is really that interested in getting up to date.

you don't need to be caught up at all
but if want to avoid "spoilers", then everyone else responses on end of saobody (2) start of fishman around 523.
