| I'm late for the show, but I have to say, Shit Soup stayed in my mind for a couple of years. I first read a bit of it when I was 14 years old and I was quite shocked, haha. What with the feces eating and such. I still don't know the symbolism behind it and I find it strange Maruo would admit he ate his own poop. Still, a work of art in my mind. I don't get disturbed easily, yet it just boggles me the thought of people eating poop and having a fetish for that. |
| From everything I've read by Maruo, Non-Resistance City is the most fucked up by far. It was the only one that genuinely shook me up a bit and disturbed me. Though most of his works make me feel at least slightly uncomfortable. But yeah, that turned out to be one seriously twisted tale. Also 8. Voyeur in the Attic really left an impression, but instead of being disturbed I found it to be quite humorous. Many of his stories have a comedic edge to them, which is only natural because part of "ero-guro nansensu" is about finding humor in the erotic and grotesque. So yeah, I found 8. to be very playful and with a few lines in it that actually made me laugh out loud, despite the supremely fucked up nature of the story. And in case anyone's curious, I think Voyeur in the Attic is originally an Edogawa Ranpo tale that Maruo adapted into a short manga story. I haven't actually read the original (yet), but I'm pretty sure there is a Ranpo story with the same title and Maruo obviously takes a lot of inspiration from him and has adapted another work of his (The Strange Tale of Panorama Island). |

| Oh yeah, this gonna be a hellride. I am not a eroguro enthousiast but I am definitely enjoying the more artsy ones(so far only Kago Shintarou, but who knows?). There is something really interesting in this concept of extreme violence and eroticism, but I feel that most of mangas in this medium are there just for shock value and/or exist only as a "fap material". To me, those things are not sexual in ANY way, but the grotesque could be used in a good way(for example Kago Shinatrou`s "Kijin Gahou" was really great as a social commentary). So let`s start with one of the first eroguro artists and this collection of his most famous works. Night Putrid - Poor girl, never marry a rich, old, perverted dude. That was quite an interesting story with good art. In fact, I really like the detailed art. Downloading this I expected something so gross as "This Is Art/Hell Season". Thankfully this manga is kind of "arty" eroguro so far. Sewer Boy - that was probably a pretty popular method back then. Does he eat those woman :D? Pretty sick. Also the first one with a theme close to "scat". Quite tame for a story like this. A Season In Hell - Heil Hitler, I`m coming, The Cosmic Gash. Haha, great :D What the hell was this? Totally random, he killed his parents out of blue. This was not as disturbing as the two previous story but it was gloriously random. Shit Soup - Another creepy scat one. Another eye licking one(the hell?) Probably the most important fethishes of Maruo. Those teenagers are savages. Calling them savages would be an understatement. Also this girl is kind of a champ - she served two boys the whole time without much sweat. "Mine smells like jasmine" - i died :D The Great Masturbator - Ok. This was definitely the most disgusting one so far. Also this is probably the most important story in the development of eroguro. Those butchering, violent moments during sex is something that will be replicated ad nauseam in modern eroguro. But Suehiro Maruo`s work is way more disturbing. It looks like a real story with some detailed art as opposed to contemporary eroguro(most of them are just schockers with nothing else than bad art and predictable plot). This one is more creepy, twisted and unpredictable. Raven of Oedipus - Everyone know what an Oedipus complex means, this time we got it with a little post-war depression sauce. Not bad. "Father" looks like some friggin Jabba. Chomp the dick off :D Sewer Boy In Paradise - So we got a big orgy because they were somehow enamored to the piss. Born in the shitter, eating all the poops and now his piss is enchanting women. 10/10 best character ever. All hail Sewer Boy. Other than that nothing interesting happen. "A Vortex Of Anal Sweat in the Suckling Sky" - I would use this to enchant girls on my future dates. What a romantic piece of poetry! Voyeur In The Attic - Quite a humorous one, also the shortest. The woman was more twisted than the voyeur, she was probably getting horny with all those plays and peeping. While disgusting and somewhat offensive it was the most(excuse me) "normal" one. Sometimes thing like this happens in reality. And this is really sad conlusion. Non-Resistance City - Simply Wow. This was definitely the best one. Firstly it has really good story with likeable characters(mother and son did nothing wrong in this one). It was really creepy and chilling but instead of gross-out imaginery, this one focused on psychological aspects and feeling of impending doom. The longest and most detailed story with an interesting ending and great atmosphere. I really liked how Maruo depicted post-war depression and decadent reallity. I would not call this one eroguro, it is more a horror story with a interesting historical/social background. Easily the best. Never trust the midget. Never. Most twisted one? On psychological level it was the last one. On the visual level - I would pick The Great Masturbator or Shit Soup. |

| During the scat-themed segments, I could feel my throat lubricating with saliva at the nauseating thought of questions that need not to be thought about by normal human beings. It was a good thing that it ended at that. Ero-guro and shit be a match made in hell, it seems. I didn't expect much despite being strangely compelled to read onwards throughout but Maruo outdid himself at the last story. Perhaps the reason why I found it more disturbing than the others was it being more realistic in a sense. For some reason, the events in Non-Resistance City looked more plausible than the more surreal stuff and I don't like it lmao |

| Personally, I think the Shit soup is the most insane. The eye in the first panel!! oh god. And the last part where Maruo admits to eating his own shit... "— it's actually bitter than foul-smelling," of course, because you're eating it lol. This is making me nauseous. I found myself chuckling while reading Voyeur In The Attic, despite it being disrespectful to the baby. Aaaaa. Non-resistance City isn't really that disturbing and definitely not the most twisted one, imo, because the mother's ignorance about the yakitori — her son's very own flesh — makes it less disturbing? I think that if she knew that and kept eating it with a smile on her face, that'd be more sickening. dunno. The butchering part was meh. Maybe because I am immune to all this goddamn shit now. |
