Mordred is a homunculus created by Morgan le Fay, Artoria's half sister and nemesis, using both her own and Artoria's essence. There are various theories about how the 'essence' comes into play, but that's the gist of it. As for why Mordred calls herself a 'son', she just has a gender identity crisis. You could interpret it as her being a clone of Artoria, and trying to copy how she pretends to be a man too. Also, she's a hardcore tomboy, so it adds to that. |

I mean calling herself a 'son' has nothing to do with titles like '-sama' or its equivalents. Mordred pretended to be a man her whole life. Even her fellow Knights of the Round were unaware. I can't exactly see her as a regular tomboy because she was practically raised and brought up as a man, even though she's a woman. People often overlook that she's a homunculus who was handcrafted and raised by Morgan according to her plans. Her mind actually is like a dude. |
