this story probably lends itself better to a written format, half of this episode was watching these two talk back and forth with slight flashbacks and cut-aways. yet the anime keeps this tone and vibe about it which is really nice, even through the slow moments - especially through the slow moments - and fantastic art even though there's minimal animation.

A glimpse in their true self, Osanai's piqued my interest quite a bit. Kininarimasu! That end scene had me laughing. Osanai about to commit murder.

Finally sakagami's case is over, that was hell of an episode from all the facts & hypothesis. Got tired following it.

@VMPL this is more so because Shoushimin has more of open plot than Hyouka and is less confined in terms of setting compared to Hyouka.
Hyouka was centered mostly at the school and the literature club and the things they do outside the school is still something related to the school or their club.

Shoushimin is more builds the characters and set what the story is about by more so random things that can happen that will cause the characters to act.
it is more so the author trying his stuff on settings he couldn't explore with Hyouka's premise.
@Sonson7 I mean, it's still centered around high school kids and the open plot is practically no plot, none of it really ties to anything.

Like what does ep 5 tie to or does it flesh out any character? None of the new characters introduced feel like they will become recurring or parts of the main cast either.

In Hyouka, even the 1-off mystery ep still has some character development or romance development, e.g Chitanda & Hotarou solving the Hiking Accident mystery.

I was laughing with Kobato computing percentages 😆 I understand it being analytical but the way they are deducing things with the whiteboard was amusingly flaunting/dramatic.

Dealing with a gang made me nervous for Osanai too but for this case, she actually dealt with it stealthily, with no confrontation. (Oh, how I want ticket scalpers to be apprehended too...) I look forward to how her she resolves her grudges more (as much as I do not want her to suffer haha) - or what happened to her before that made her want to "be normal". I did not expect that the brief bicycle theft/cake spoilage would trickle in as a case. They are really going for a slow build.

I won't lie this was one of the better episodes. But still insanely boring. Osanai keeps getting the short end of the stick after bad luck followed by bad luck lmao.

Poor Sakagami was being used by upperclassmen. That's rough.

pretty average ep.. just two guys talking in a room for past 9 min is not much fun even if they are solving some mysteries.... and osanai san is a full on delinquent 🤣

@VMPL it flesh out how the "characters interact more", this is still "something" since unlike Hyouka the characters are more "transparent" to easily show what there character is really like.
In shoshimin the characters aren't like that. also what I mean by "one-off mystery" is that the cases in "Shoushimin" are isolated cases that don't lead to something about the main plot or to tackle a specific character or build a relationship.
There are character developments, its just not as big of a chunk and beefy than a regular episode of Hyouka.
also if you noticed I keep telling how different this is to "Hyouka". So I advice you to not expect this one to be a "full on Hyouka". It has similarities on stuff due to it being done by the same author but as I mentioned from my previous reply, the author is doing something different here than hyouka.

You literally keep mentioning things about this show that is so different to hyouka. and that is my very point that this one is doing something different than hyouka.
Like dude read what you wrote
"first you said why this and that is not so like something in Hyouka"
So I explained this one is made to be different to hyouka that is why things aren't lining up for it to be EQUIVALENT in HYOUKA.

Then you Reply back "BUt its about High School Kids Like Hyouka" then you proceed to mentioning stuff not "being the same as Hyouka"

Like your replies implies you are noticing the difference so don't ecpect those aspects to be the same as Hyoka since they are meant to be done different.
Whether you end up not liking this show due to that is "subjectively" up to you.

It's like don't expect HunterxHunter to be exactly like Yu Yu Hakusho just because they were done by the same author.
Heck just take Fairy Tail and Edens Zero, the charccter designs are basically just reskinned but still the charcters and story is still fundamentally different and the similarities end with just it having similar looking artstyle and that it is a shonen done by the same author.

I think they kinda failed to capture Osanai's different presence while she's being with Kobato and with other people. I just didn't get the reason why she needs to bother to fake herself as a different person in front of Dojima.

I like what they're going for, but I really don't think this is working at all...

- Characters are just handsome statues, with only vague hints about how smart and brutal they really are. The fact that they're quiet doesn't mean they're sophisticated. I don't see much that shows through their facade.

- The mysteries are just comically low-stakes and I want to say "mechanical." It's like they're doing paperwork. This one turned out a little more criminal than the others, but so much of it was off-screen and barely affected the characters. And I would be okay with the low stakes if they were actually presented in an interesting or dramatic way, but instead I'm given a presentation.

- The deductions are frankly nonsense. I kept thinking, "whoaaa, slow down there, buddy" and "why would you say that" when Kobato kept building and building from a bike theft to a identity theft/fraud ring. The fact that he arrived at the answer in the end does not mean he got there logically and naturally.

The only thing I'm latching onto is the gorgeous art style, animation and voice work, and the rest are seriously disappointing.

I like the story structure and how they deduce the mysteries. Simple enough for me to understand. So far, it's enjoyable atleast.

I don't get this episode. More precisely, what does ID have to do buying concert tickets, how did 5 student get arrested for scalping if they need the ID to get the tickets or the other way around, if they have been selling tickets why are they making the guy get drivers ID?

Alright, time to continue this series!

...

Okay, this episode since ep2 was really a wonder.
So both MCs are detective at heart, but the girl is more likely to do it for revenge when someone does her harm... a very intriguing series.

The guy, is probably her opposite.

They are similar, in a way, and it's somehow adorable.

It's rather sad to see this series only getting 10 episodes, but whatever, I'll still watch this nonetheless.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.
