So, I just find this very similar situation in Rosidere and Makeine but the way they handle each is very different and it's a perfect example of difference between main character and side character.

Yeah but the last scene does not feel the same as other feelings in other scenes.
The story is very different but the emotions the writers wanted to capture are more or the same.
I guess your deduction is true.

its not the same. their personalities are vastly different. not comparable at the least. similar sentiment is the only common thing.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.

Thing is only part similar.

Maschasika was already in that debate as a helper to Alya he did his job.

Nukumizu had no right to barge in. Despite how sorry he feels and good intentions it's disrespect to Komari. Komari had every right to get made him.

It's difference of a very generic plot and an actual more realistic plot.

@Zarutaku atleast you are more honest than Maschasika who for the entire season gave bs reason like "I see passion or something which Yuki doesn't have" lol..

But the show still tried to sell him as that goody reserved character (for first few episodes atleast) before doing complete 180 and revealing he can do everything easily.

@WaterMage Masachika held Alya's foot and put on her stocking in the 1st episode already, I would hardly call that reserved.
Anyway Nukumizu is a good MC too, just not that interesting, Makeine was all about the girls so far.

It's a different scene because in one case the crisis is ongoing and the dilemma is mostly the debate result, in the other scenario the crisis is over (she failed her speech, there's no reversing it) and the dilemma is the character's ability.

But I agree that certain characters have different mentalities that can be their strengths/flaws.

@WaterMage Let's be honest. Komari was being stubborn out of a false sense of responsibility and pride, and tried to force herself to do something she clearly wasn't capable of doing (at least at that time). You can call it disrespectful or whatever, but Nukumizu did something that ultimately benefitted Komari and the lit club as a whole 👍🏾

It isn't about being a side character or the main character; the similarity lies in their motives. Both Komari and Alya seek acceptance from others, albeit for different reasons. Komari wants to overcome her shyness to build the confidence necessary to step up as the club president, while Alya desires acceptance as one of their own as they (the students) view her as an outsider.

Also really? "Winning her over like a shrewd rizzler"??? Seriously? Have some shame man. This guy got rattled just by her using his first name and from her lightly teasing him on their little "date" in the last 2 episodes. He is NOT the guy you think he is 😂

@SkyhighCFC Goody two-shoes don't exploit secrets they keep from their love interest, he's well aware that his support for Alya is making her fall for him and he continues to make her fall even more, that's exactly what shrewd rizzlers do. Frist name embarrassment is just a silly and overused anime trope and almost everyone would become rattled if they got teased by a goddess like Alya.

@Zarutaku

Yea...ngl brev this is just cringe. He's keeping secrets from Alya for both his sister's sake and Alya's sake. The only reason he hasn't told her about him knowing Russian is so Alya doesn't get embarrassed. The only reason he hasn't told Alya about his sister is because nobody is supposed to know that they are siblings because of his grandfather. That was made pretty obvious...

This guy didn't even realize Alya could have potentially actually been into him until like episode 5. He is NOT a "rizzler" (so cringe btw 💀)

@SkyhighCFC If he didn't want to embarrass her, he could have told her about his Russian skills from the start, but he didn't.
There are others in their school who know that they are siblings and he knows that Alya is trustworthy enough to keep it a secret if he told her, but he didn't. He started to rizz her up like a brave knight in episode 3 and 4 already, that was made pretty obvious.

@Zarutaku WHO in the school knows they are siblings? Don't try to lie. Secondly, he quite literally admitted to himself in the anime that if he reveals he can speak Russian it would embarrass Alya and he doesn't want to do that. He lost the opportunity to reveal it before she could be embarrassed. Stop this cringe "rizzler" gimmick. Masachika is just a normal guy and that's okay!

Saying this like it's a good thing...

Ayanokoji is a broken individual that can't form proper connections with people without having some agenda in mind. That is NOT something desirable.

I'm not even saying Masachika is a bad romance MC. Imo he is a good one. But let's not lie that he's one of these cringe edgy characters that little boys like because they think being a manipulative POS is cool.

@Zarutaku No, he did not intentionally try to make Alya fall for him. How you even got this idea I'll never understand. If he was intentionally doing it like you're claiming then why are they not a couple right now, considering it should be obvious that she likes him at this point? And why does he get rattled when Alya gives him the slightest bit of heat on a date? 🤣

@Zarutaku @SkyhighCFC Enough said. Time for a little spoiler, you two.

At the end of Episode 4 of Season 2, Masachika will realize and acknowledge Alya's feelings for him. It would be just so obvious that he cannot but acknowledge it based on Alya's emotions and actions.

From Masachika's monologue, us audience got to learn that he had always known about her having feelings for him. But he pretended not to see, he didn't want to believe that she could actually fall for him. He would always throw a tsukkomi to avoid expressing his true feelings (This is S1 Masachika), so that no one has to see him being vulnerable. All those thoughts stemmed from his sense of self-hatred.

Well, after he found out, the way he acted around her somewhat changed. And now, in V9, Alya refuses to let go of holding hands with Masachika even in front of his family.

It's almost like you aren't even watching the show. He was literally not even aware that she might have been serious about those Russian remarks until around the midway point of the series. He quite literally said he just thought she was doing light flirting to mess with him after she essentially confessed to him in Russian. Also even if he wasn't as dense as a box of rocks and realized much sooner...how does that imply her falling for him was something he intended? Has he done anything with an innate intention to make her fall for him? The answer is an obvious no. He was just being a good person. Being a good person and helping a friend isn't "rizzing" my guy...

Zarutaku said:

If he was as much of a "rizzler" as you claim he wouldn't be getting rattled by anything Alya says or does, because it's obvious how inexperienced Alya is with romantic situations like this. He would certainly not be losing composure over her using his first name. "He's not immune to her charm" is just another way of saying "he's not that guy and can't handle a bit of light flirting from a conventionally attractive girl".

Even if that wasn't his innate intention, he still rizzed her up that way. Even though he pretended to not see it, he still was aware of it and kept going.

@Zarutaku @SkyhighCFC C'mon, dawgs. I already belabored why Masachika was never intending on making Alya for him by even quoting from the LN. He never took himself to be worthy of being liked by anyone, let alone by the likes of Alya.

The debate was already dead, but I can reaffirm that I still think he rizzed her up with his actions, even if it wasn't his intention and even if he pretended to not see it and not be worthy, he still noticed that she's falling for him and he continued.
