Well I've watched 4 episodes of this anime and it's kinda boring and it's not getting better. Mashle was similar but atleast that had a bit of comedy but this doesn't even have that thing it's just a good animation and a slow story with basic plot nothing else. Should I continue it or just drop it?

for what it'll cover this season, towards the end it'll get pretty great, but if you don't like it now i wouldn't continue it.

it's just a bunch of fighting basically for his way to the top, so if you're not enjoying it, i wouldn't continue it.

Then I should drop it I didn't like demon slayer it's just too much hyped but the animation was so great but if this is lower than that I just don't wanna Continue

there will be story development as well with the characters, but it takes a bit to get there. from what i can gather, if you aren't a fan of fighting anime such as this one then it may just not be for you.

as you said, this is somewhat in the same field as mashle but mashle has comedy to make the story move along whereas this one relies on something different.

Even solo Levelling was better than this with sword fights in dungeon and level up but this just seems rip off of solo Levelling and demon slayer.

@Rohan_King I enjoy a brainless fight series while on the treadmill, do you? I'm sure others have different reasons for enjoying it. What do you enjoy? If you don't enjoy it, my opinion is irrelevant. It's pretty generic shonen with good animation, from what I've seen the story remains that.

Naah I am just gonna drop it now will watch it if it gets more recognition on social media or people make meme about it or when the show ends and it has a good rating. Cuz there's a better show with a top notch fighting animation and a decent story called elusive samurai.

Like most battle shonen, it’s just cool fights and a cliche story. If you don’t like that, maybe just stop watching now. I really don’t think this is the kind of anime to develop a huge plot or anything groundbreaking.

its honestly pretty fucking mid, and i can't see the score being so high for any other reason than the art/animation being PEAK

at least so far its just another series where the MC can't lose, the opponents are dumb dudes, and they basically just overprotect all the mcs

From writing point of view it's pretty average. Animation and actions are good, but 4 episodes are more than enough to determine whether a show is good or bad. And it will remain the same, story will be average and there will be lot of action scenes.

I don’t understand people complaining, lol. If you didn’t like the first or second episode, it’s not gonna magically change into a completely different story or genre. That’s like asking if AOT becomes a SOL after you watch the first episode.

Having read the manga.. This definitely gets much better. Yes the beginning is rather annoying with him having to prove his worth to everybody repititively. Imo the fighting doesn't change much but the story gets better and some overall character development. I personally liked it more than mashle. There's complex emotions at play and some amazing fights.. (not involving the mc). For what it's worth I'd ask u to finish the season and decide if u wanna continue it.

I don't understand why people don't have their own opinion, if It gets better, cool, if it doesn't, just drop it, it's that hard? if you force yourself through something you clearly don't enjoy, it's obvious you're not gonna like it.

Wistoria is just Boku no hero mashle with mc's motivation being a simp so I don't see how it'll get any better in terms of it's story. Although fantasy world generally has the potential to have some good world building but it being a shounen might take a long time getting there while wasting your time with generic shounen battles so if that's not your thing I'd suggest to drop it. Me personally I'm just gonna finish this season and see if I wish to continue

I'm not too fond of overpowered characters. The main character is the strongest student, but he always says he doesn't have talent, which is annoying.
A score of 7.84 is overrated. I believe it will drop to 7.5.

Good animation and music. As for the plot, if you expected mashle then you better find something else since the similarity stop at “MC go for physical build in a world governed by magic”

Mashle is a gag manga where the comedy factor come from seeing his absurd strength break all common sense
Wistoria is a more traditional hero story using the sympathetic plot structure (probably due to the author’s fondness of myths base on his previous work). Will’s power is actually his willpower pun intended and despite how the fight is presented, he’s actually just barely making it with the help of other ppl with magic (which will come up later [spoiler]) like his Moria’s silver sword, Kiki’s magic, Colette’s magic and Rosti’s magic tools

For me it’s not a masterpiece or anything close to that but it’s good enough to be enjoyable. There’re some subtle character relationship storytelling between that i enjoy like the description hinting that Workner was actually the mage who fought the dwarven army which explain why he has a soft spot for Will. Also fact that Wistoria has harem trope in theory but ended up feeling more like BL in reality is funny

You know what I don't understand about this anime is how Will's abilities were unknown until now, because nothing has indicated he's supposed to keep it a secret or anything, so how are people just finding out now?
He's apparently always fighting monsters in the dungeon but before episode 1 no one has ever seen him do it or questioned how he's able to without magic?

@JewelRunner Agreed. This anime doesn't make a lot of sense regarding this matter.
First of all, it would be interesting to know how the points are being tracked down and if someone can check the breakdown. If Will has been hunting a lot of monster in the dungeon, it should necessarily have more points than if he didn't, so, everyone should be able to notice a discrepancy... Also, if everyone could check his points, they would see in a second he's betting strong monster, so, that would destroy this image of "useless".
Well, let's be honest. Everyone, except Will because the author wants it, would just say "See, I just destroyed this monster, he's worth that much, certified by teacher, so, I'm not that weak".
But no.
Hell, he even let Sion take credits for his monster kill. No one checked the point whatsoever.
And when you start to think about it, I mean, if he's supposed to have no magic and physical abilities is considered useless, then :
1/ He should not be allowed in the school
2/ Even if he's allowed as an intellectual, he should not be asked to demonstrate magic when he can't (I mean, come on, no teacher would just ask him to perform magic when they have known for several years he doesn't have any magical abilities...., except, again, because the author wants to even if it doesn't make sense),
3/ And if he's seen as worthless, he should not be allowed to go in dungeon (saying "don't worry, he got a familiar with him", sure, because, if the sensei notice something was wrong, he could get in the dungeon in one second ? As if the monster would wait thirty minutes...)
4/ And it shouldn't be allowed in the competition either because who would send a powerless dude ? Is that how you want to advertise your school ? And no one care about the safety of students ?

So, yeah, basically, the story is constructed on the principle that Will is overpowered and that no matter how bad stuff are, it's fine, because he will win. But, if you consider just one second he was not overpowered, it would make no sense and just be cruel (consider there is no way he was overpowered when he started the school).

Finally, we all know, it would just take ONE SECOND from the teacher to declare to his students that Will just killed xxx monster, so that the whole "laggards" stuff would end,
but he doesn't do it because the author doesn't want to,
and
if you just think about it, only giving 10 credits to destroy a monster who could probably kill everyone except the top3 students of the school, it doesn't make sense. 10 out of 7200... Again the author just decided it because in every other normal word, Will should have over 10 000 points just from killing monster as powerful as he did.
Not 10. He deserves 100 or 1 000 points for destroying this monster.

So, basically, the whole concept of the anime only works because the author allowed a non magic student to register for no reason and that no one (including Will) is allowed to say "He got10 points because he killed xxx by himself".
In real life, this anime will be over in 10 seconds.
No one would take the bullying (except again... because the author just want to).

Finally, the concept of writing, is that the action of the character are as natural as possible, so, you "forget" there is an author. But, here, the author is making so much choice who doesn't make any sense, you start to question everything and realize not a lot are properly justified.

the anime has amazing choreography for the fighting and how they deliver the characters emotions. especially during fight scenes.
Yes the story is recycled and could have better plot development.
But overall it has depth with him trying to enter the tower to him climbing the tower and the adversities he will face. Plus the celestial host.
Yall are upset when it could just be a slow starter like plenty of other anime thay are considered great after giving the time for it to develop.
I believe it was meant to be more of a action based anime rather than story driven.
if you don't like it then don't force yourself to watch it. you know what to expect from it
everyone wants some overpowered "cool" character and it is overplayed imo

You know one thing I do find really funny about this show is comparing it to Mashle, you'd think Mashle was meant to be a direct parody of Wistoria, like the way Spaceballs is a direct parody of Star Wars even though Mashle released almost a year before Wistoria did.

I don't know what that says about Wistoria exactly, but it says something.

Episode 7 is rated as 9.4/10 on imdb, which usually is a much better reflection than an average score there or here on MAL. So yes, it should get better at least temporarily.

I'm currently that the third episode myself and the story gives me mixed feelings. On the one hand, I like the premise and that it's a more serious story than Mashle. On the other, power levels are meh as well as the rating system. They need to get 7200 points total, but a powerful monster that easily takes care of some of the top students is worth only 10 points? And the MC, who struggled against a 6-point monster defeats it. And then he gets only 5 points for overthrowing one of the strongest teachers, or probably the strongest one, lol. And MC's motivation is kind of dumb, unless we learn that the girl he likes has a REALLY GOOD reason to just ignore and never meet him. Also it's annoying how MC allowed people much weaker than him to bully him, Mash is much better as an MC.

8 episodes in and I'm still waiting for it to get good. This is one of those "what you see is what you get" shows. The action and animation are good. The rest is generic and boring. In a perfect world we'd be able to give this animation to another show this season that could use it way better

Why does everyone think the plot of a multi-volume manga has to be revealed in the first few episodes? Spoiler before the end of the first part, there should still be a season, which ideally will include a ranobe. That's where the strength of the main character will start to be revealed, but I think the main highlight is in the prequel, which answers a lot of questions.
