I was expecting something like Jellyfish but with cheerleading.
When I saw the scene before the op of how Megumi ended up in the hospital, that was the first thing I thought.
Then I heard Miku Itou playing Megumi and that idea was cemented in my mind. (She's the VA of Mahiru)
But I was confused watching the rest of the episode, because it focused more on parkour than cheerleading.
I need to watch more to know what this show is about (that's more common than not in this anime season tbh)

Note:
Since I talked about the first scene, I should probably ask if you think that was 3D CGI.
I'm pretty sure it is, which is not a problem on its own, but the movement seemed a little jarring to me.
Speaking of animation I appreciate it when anime use any color other than black for outlines.
And this one uses many colors too!
@gorkthe134th You're dead wrong. Megumi's hospitalisation was not because of that mishap. She wasn't in that scene nor was she a part of Hawk Wings. Did you miss her telling Shion that her illness was something they found out about in the middle of a competition during middle school?

Kanata and Megumi were only teammates in middle school, not high school. The first scene is of Kanata performing with the Hawk Wings as a first year in Takanozaki High School. The photograph in Megumi's room was from when they were middle schoolers. Kanata and her middle school cheer team won the nationals as a way to cheer up Megumi who had to drop out of the team due to her as-of-now unspecified illness.

Did you not notice the uniforms being completely different?

Megumi's illness is completely unrelated to anything that happened in the first scene. Speaking of which, we don't yet fully know what exactly happened to Kanata. Only bits and pieces of the mishap have been revealed as of now. But I'm sure that will be addressed eventually.

Also, this show will be nothing like Jellyfish. I take offense at that comparison. For one, this show already has better writing, which means none of the characters are being set up as "antagonists" for a redemption arc speedrun in the final 4 episodes.

Surprised this one is getting some mixed reactions. What a fantastic first episode!
@VillettaNuSimp Those are mostly people missing all the neat details. Honestly, I'm loving the direction this one's heading in. Plus, that animation style just pops out of the screen with all that vibrancy. P.A. Works are killing it this season.

Great episode 1, 6 characters introduced right off the bat in a competent way. That's unusual for SOL content for so many major characters to be seen and given something to work with. I hope it keeps being good.

@Arkx919 Sorry, I was confused.
I knew from the PV and the Poster that there was a girl who was in the hospital and then on a wheelchair.
So when watching a girl falling in the first scene, I assumed she was the one I saw in the Promotional Material.
My interpretation was that when she about to jump, her legs went numb for the first time and later they became completely paralyzed.
I thought Megumi telling Shion that they found out about her illness in the middle of a competition during middle school was confirming my theory.
It seemed interesting to me, the idea that Megumi would be hurt physically and Kanata mentally during the same event.
I also hadn't yet realized that the Hawk Wings is the Takanozaki High School team (the second episode makes that more clear).

Regarding the Jellyfish comparison, I did not mean to offend anyone and I'm sorry if I did.
I was just using it as a recent example of a show with a lot of drama at the beginning of it's story, that also stemed from a traumatic experience.
It was never intended to be anything more than that.

On an unrelated note, when refering to the end of a story or any important event in general, you should consider using spoiler tags.
What you wrote in this case is not very revealing, but I would have done it anyway. You never know what you could spoil accidentally.

Thanks for your understanding!

Well, it wasn't an amazing start for the anime, but it was ok.

The anime started really badly in my opinion, that choreography of the beginning was underwhelming, especially because of the animation, it just felt weird, and took on forever, the way the scene was directed wasn't amazing either. But after that, the anime starts getting more interesting, introducing the cast of characters, and showing that the artstyle of the anime is actually quite cute.
It seems like it's going to be an anime about the main character's self discovery, and overall the episode was ok. I liked the characters, and the plot as potential, especially on what happened on that 1st choreography that made Kanata not pursue cheerleading anymore.
Kazuha's introduction was really cool, but by the end of the episode they were exagerating with the parkour, like that girl can't walk normally apparentaly, and she was completely defying all laws of gravity. Kanata also decided to defy gravity in that last scene, that in my opinion made it a bit ridiculous with how exageratted it was, and after that scene it felt a bit empty.
I'm always looking foward to P.A. Works, because I tend to vibe a lot with their works, especially the ones that are more centered about romance or school/slice of life, and this anime is one of them. Although their animes tend to take forever to start developing the actual plot, I always love just the initial episodes due to how the vibe of the episode is, I really can't explain it, but I didn't feel that in this anime. Didn't really find this episode to have that "P.A. Workds" feeling, but we'll see if that appears in the following episodes.

The 2nd of 3 P.A. Works' shows, plus the 1st of 2 originals, and it has to be the studio's pseudo-Working series, focusing on cheerleading.

Didn't know P.A. Works had more anime this season, and I guess I'll need to check out their other original anime. As I said, I really like the vibe of their animes, but their originals that are more different from what they're used to do tend to not be that good (like Fairy Gone or Appare). This anime seemed to be one anime that they would get right, and honestly an anime about cheerleading just seems interesting, but I wasn't impressed with this 1st episode. However, the anime has some potential, especially because P.A. Works always does great work with more school-themed animes, so I will check out the 2nd episode that is already out!

Edit: Didn't really like the opening nor the ending either, which is a shame :(

Sister out at the front of the school like dios mío because of the shit she sees on a daily basis

No wonder why Suzuha's surname is Obunai 'cause whatever she does on a daily basis is Abunai 😂

Was funny seeing Larissa Tago voice the Brazilian girl, she probably got some advice from Teru Ikuta over at Deresute considering Teru plays a Brazilian girl there and the two have had that carnival song together in the game too!

I like this so far! Anna and Kanata are very cute characters :) And it's funny how much of a show off parkour girl is haha. Visually I think the more colorful outline is fun, but I understand why it's not for everyone. I really like that everyone has a different color on the "inside" of their hair though, that's really cute♡.

Apparently, Brazil has the greatest population of Japanese people outside Japan, so it's interesting to see a Brazilian character in an anime set in Japan.

All that cheerleading, flying around, jumping, flipping, etc and not one panty shot to be found. A damn shame. Not that I'm expecting them from a show like this, but hey. Decent looking show, looking forward to more.

It seems like a generic CGDCT anime, but the art style is jarring at times, like the weird outlines they have in some scenes, that being said will still watch the entire series, and its a cozy turn your brain off show anyways so it does what it has to.

Surprised that so many people dislike the art style. It looks pretty standard to me, just with a slightly unusual color palette. Is it that the color palette looks ugly to most people?

Animation looks fine, too. Of course, with the exception of the glaring 3D CG during the opening cheerleading segment.

Also surprised to see so many people complaining how "unrealistic" the parkour is. I just figured the creators were being playful and exaggerating, to get across how parkour and big cheerleading moves feel like to the person doing them. It's odd that the anime crowd of all people have problems with artistic liberty and creative exaggeration.
