Edit: I got my answer thanks to that very kind MAL user who had read the VN - so I have marked the post as ignored and won't see new replies, have fun chatting :) I am wondering if anyone can help me understand something, possibly fans of the VN source. As each new trailer has released for this anime I end up with equal parts hype and concern lol at one point it was my most anticipated of summer season. Concern part - this show is marked as romance but judging by the trailer the MCs are an adult man and a female kid - and based on what the synopsis says she is a robot So I guess my questions is.....what is going on here lol? I don't want to start any wars here - people can watch whatever they want and I don't care, I just want to know if I personally want to avoid getting invested in this anime. Thanks. |

@WestOnAndrewAve thanks for the reply. Based on that I am wondering if it is one of those "loophole" romances then lol "old mind in the young form" so they get away with it, then again anime seems to get away with it even if they don't use loopholes haha. Maybe I am going crazy or something but she REALLY looks like a kid, there is a scene in the new trailer in which another woman grabs her by the head and it honestly could be mistaken for mother and young child haha. I love the water world setting and it also looks cute/ funny....but a bit conflicted on that one point :/ |

@ColCasey ah the obligatory anime defender "dude, it's anime" response without any attempt to answer the question that was asked. "Who cares?" ummmmm me clearly - which is why I asked the question haha Edit: I see you gave Jobless Reincarnation a 9, now it all makes sense haha |

@ColCasey you know what - you are right that I wasn't clear on what I was asking, so just to clear that up....what I was asking was more or less "is she supposed to be the form of a kid??" And my hope is a VN reader might be able to clarify something concrete that could help me either be at peace or decide not to watch. For example if they said "it is never explains but nothing really happens, it is more about emotional stuff" then I would relax... Or maybe they would say something else and I would think "F THAT"... but yes if I don't get any more clarification then I will probably have to just find out for myself |

These kind of shows clearly aren't for you. Also google exists. Regarding mushoku tensei, try watching it first before judging other peoples rating of it. You might enjoy it but considering how pensive you are about atri maybe you should stick to SOL shows without romance whatsoever, better for your heart. |

@Yorda_trico for the real answer--from a VN reader--here it is: if i remember the details correctly, Atri is indeed older than Natsuki. in fact, she was with Natsuki ever since he was a little kid, particularly since before a certain incident in the story. i believe Atri also served his grandmother in the past before even meeting Natsuki himself; essentially, she's been part of the family for a very long time there might be other VN readers who come across this that can give more accurate details, since it has been quite a while since i read it |

Try googling for the age of that character and let me know your results....nothing turned up for me except reddit posts that would contain massive spoilers. VN reader here, it's very sweet and light, nothing to worry about. It doesn't elude to pedo stuff and makes sense in the story with how it's handled. It's a lovely romance and a lovely story so I hope you thoroughly enjoy it! |

No problem, I understand your worries perfectly. ATRI nothing like you'd fear, I hope you have a wonderful time with it. It's nothing like mushoku at all, closest maybe to plastic memories? Just like to say though with your comment about mushoku, it starts off gross and that is off-putting for many people so I understand you not wanting to read or watch it. But claiming the series as a whole is pedo bait is a pretty revolting generalisation, that completely erases all the character growth which the series is about |

@The_Lamington I hear what you are saying, but such things are very subjective and we all have to make peace with our own morals all said and done. There is no objective standard for how much questionable content will make a entire show become something horrid. for one person it could become horrid and immoral only when 60% of the run time has this kind of content, but for me all it takes is one single scene and I know the kind of author I am dealing with. You and others might find my comments on that anime provocative, but let's remember who poked at who first, that guy came on here being a prick, and I bit back, but people want to ignore his provocation and focus on mine because I had a go at an anime they like - logic and fairness doesn't matter. I even wrote this on my original post "I don't want to start any wars here - people can watch whatever they want and I don't care, I just want to know if I personally want to avoid getting invested in this anime." but still I got that kind of comment because they cannot help themselves. |

@ColCasey so you self inserted yourself into this post to poke at my views then make no attempt at answering anything but because you didn't like that I bit back you go on the defensive and say this to me... honestly that has kind of made my year, absolutely priceless haha I mean the level of hypocrisy is so insane that you could't even make that up in a fantasy story no more even needs to be said, let's just capture this perfect moment forever haha |

@Yorda_trico Yeah no, I entirely get why you had to snap back and say that considering other comments. And yeah, it's definitely subjective. I'm not a fan of hearing that language when you haven't seen it, but it's definitely not for everyone and clearly you're not going to enjoy it But yeah hopefully you get ATRI is different. @The_Lamington Tomorrow this will pop into my head and I will regret making such a bold and judgemental statement on Jobless R especially as it should have nothing to do with what the intention of this post was, I just get so fed up of people like that guy antagonising and my immature side wants to be a prick back. But yes I certainly will post on my thoughts, ATRI became one of my forecasted 10/10 shows for this season when I first heard about it, and I hope that will become reality. I have a big soft spot for robot stories like Vivy, Plastic Memories and Planetarian: The Reverie of a Little Planet <3 hopefully ATRI can join them. Thanks again! |

@The_Lamington yep :) I actually hadn't played the VN and I only found out about that after. But I plan to play it as I really loved the story so much. You know when you wonder "what will be my next special show" and then when it comes along you just feel it! There is an OVA version and a movie version, I prefer the OVA and I think people should start with it as it is the first released, but like me if someone likes it I am sure they would want to try both versions. |

ah another person ignoring the fact that it was not me who delivered the initial provocation, and I even tried to discourage any kind of behaviour in my original post
but yes I am the villain here, for sure!
Have a great day my friend!

@TommyTheWeeb139 you win? to loosely quote your own wise words - I didn't say anything about winning I'm just saying. So when he said "Who cares?" in regards to my question that I cared to ask, and also a very snippy "First time?" at the end, he wasn't being provocative? How did he help me clarify anything? I mean it all becomes a moot point if you look up and see that someone who played the VN was actually able to answer my question constructively without being antagonistic and provocative - which is why I made the post in the first place (IMAGINE THAT????) Imagine if he hadn't made his snippy pointless unhelpful comment - this thread would only contain constructive people helping me understand the dynamics of the story in this anime. But you clearly have a bias and see him as an innocent little kitten and me as a baddie, so let's agree to disagree and feel free to continue this conversation yourself if you have nothing better to do, at this point my question has been answered by a helpful person - so I am good. |

It’s not that crazy, lol. You typed up an entire essay over this boring argument but what? No im just saying, I agree with him. It’s anime, just watch the first episode |

Mushoku being brought up here was completely unnecessary and just made this painful to read through and anybody who still believe that show is a pedo fantasy needs to grow up and relealize that perspective is just dumb and by the time anything romance involved actually does happens most of the characters are your average anime age and that perspective also downplays the severity of actual pedos and the reason MC ends up like that is ALMOST understandable. Opinion on Violet Evergarden Movie is also just real dumb considering that shows setting and Violets character. As for your question which you should've just stuck to in the first place (and never mentioned Mushoku) the person who said the spoilers is completely correct and Atri is a lot like Plastic Memories and Planetarian. Also seeing as you like Planetarian I'd recommend anything made by the same Studio - Key, that has a good adaptation or is original (Clannad, Angel Beats!, Kanon (2006) etc.) just not Rewrite or Little Busters! (most VNs are better but these are substantially better). You'd probably also love the Key VN Stella of the End (written by the same guy as Planetarian who I believe also wrote most of Rewrites VN) which does the robot thing but with a Father Daughter relationship instead of romantic. Most VNs go on pretty big sales quite regularly on Steam. Also do watch Planetarian: Storyteller of the Stars (the movie) as it adds quite a few extra things (that weren't even in the VN) throughout the recaps of the OVA that I think wraps up the story really nicely. And Plastic Memories has a VN (originally for PS Vita but a PC English fan patch exists) that has a happy ending in it (definitely need a guide to get there though). |

@No1_LoliLover I honestly cannot thank you enough for rocking into this post with that username and disagreeing with me while agreeing with @TommyTheWeeb139 hahaha it really reminds me of why I asked this question in the first place, and the kind of anime fans I truly don't want to associate with No need for me to even reply on this post anymore, the combination of that username + your antagonistic reply has created a better defence for my question than I ever could with 10,000 words :) thank you so much! |

I’d recommend going to the therapist if you have problems with separating fiction from reality. Unless you’re trolling. If you’re trolling, you should know that it isn’t funny for anyone. |

@Yorda_trico Sorry for giving actual recommendation then asshole. I'm also not defending the other guy, just saying my perspective on the Mushoku thing and the point of Violets Movie that went over your head. I don't want to pick a fight otherwise I wouldn't have given you recommendations. You're the one being antagonistic here |

you already got the answer, so why would I repeat it? Bottom line is, watch it or don't if you are scared to see a romance with a young looking girl. Guessing you are new to this medium if you have gripes with this kind of stuff so you have to find out for yourself
@ColCasey You're the kind of anime fan who makes people ashamed to admit they like anime |
