So I guess this was the original first meeting between Yugi and Kaiba.

I loved how this duel was even more ridiculous than episode 1 of Duel Monsters....it made absolutely no sense!

And yeah, I'm glad they decided to change Kaiba's hair from Green to Brown....the guy looks like he's on acid.

Made absolutely no sense, i guess you talking about the rules? they are just different. If it is the monsters moving by themselvs, that's just due to the millenium item. I think Kaiba with green hair would be cooler, that haircut (and brown color) just make him look like a normal guy; and the strong guys in Yu-gi-oh often have weird hairdos lol

And this is the first episode we see something of the card game.
Kaiba is a bit obsessed :)

not sure if I will continue to watch this, I didn't like how the Blue Eyes Dragon just made himself disappear (I don't remember this being the same as in Duel Monsters..?!), it was ridiculous in a bad way..
also that green hair looks so terrible...

I preferred the manga ending with Kaiba losing and going insane but otherwise its a pretty good adaptation.

Only bad thing so far is Yami Yugi voice sounding too female (maybe its because I'm used to Dan Green and LK's voices)

The duel ended in a draw just because Kaiba cheated, he should have lost his soul... lol

The first Dual Monsters battle! Pretty interesting to see the Blue eyes dragon in this form!

Let's see what's next.

The first ever Yu Gi Oh duel. Nobody back in 1998 would have foresaw how big this simple idea would eventually become.

As for the rules & "anime mechanics", probably this is just another game in the writers mind and therefore completely different vs. our modern YGO TCG rules which were perfected by the Duel Monsters Tournament city Arc (tribute summons still didn't exist vs. Pegasus island arc).

I'm personally glad Kaiba reverted to a more standard look after this series. With that crazy hair, I'm not sure I can take him seriously later on in the series.

Very important episode because this is the introduction of the card game and Seto Kaiba, also wtf why does he has green hair.
Really good episode, Yami Yugi is great, I like how he battled Kaiba and the blue eyes dragon.

The Kaiba episode, and the first appearance of Duel Monsters in the anime. MARVELOUS NEON GREEN HAIR!

Firstly, I would like to praise the Toei adaptation for skipping the one-off and not so interesting chapters from the manga to jump straight into Kaiba. So far they are doing a good job. They even made the game much more elaborate and have the rules it had in Duelist Kingdom (with the field bonuses and such). However, I do not like how they made the match a draw and cut out completely the penalty game Yugi give to Kaiba as a result!

It may not seem as much right now but it just won't end up very well when they get to the Death T arc which was a direct consequence of the outcome of this duel, which Kaiba lost btw.

I could get used to old card and monster designs but idk about Kaiba's; it's just... so awful. Thank goodness they changed them

Yugi is too kind :/

On the other side, Kaiba is pussy

Lol didn't expect Seto's green hair, and I thought Blue Eyes White Dragon is just a card that belongs to Seto originally....

I barely remember anything about Yu-Gi-Oh (The card game), but quite a few things about that game felt kinda off. Still a great episode.

Great. No words for this episode. It's simply everything you'd expect from Yu-Gi-Oh!

@tqran Same, but we'll see how this one goes! Maybe it's still interesting

If I didn’t already know Kaiba, I think this episode would have felt much weaker to me. Kaiba is introduced and developed, but everything was way too convenient, with no real attempt to justify the events of the episode.

The animation in this episode was much more... painful. I think it stayed around the same level as the previous episodes, but since more things were happening, it gave the impression of a severe drop in quality.

The Shadow Game featured the signature Yu-Gi-Oh! mechanics, but the duel itself wasn’t particularly good or well explained. At least we got a glimpse of some of the series' most iconic monsters.
