Basically, is this the Drama/Thriller entry for this season?

I haven't really seen an entire episode yet and have only checked out the beginning of episode 1; I'm intrigued about the plot. I'm only asking this because I want to know if I should start watching it now or if it wouldn't hurt to put it on the backlog for now, along with "My Home Hero" which I also yet to finish. Not to say that I don't like this genre. It just requires-- at least for me-- a certain kind of mood, and is quite off when mixed up with the kind of shows I'm following this season which are mostly comedies and active/action-heavy shows.

EDIT: Took me a month to continue watching this and, it's clear to me now that this is very different to MHH. It's far from a thriller with cliff-hangers but more a compiled chapters of stories with morality ideas that would likely factor on the main plot. I'm at episode 5 rn and it's still about random situational stories and looks like the next episode will be as well. But I'm fairly invested, so far.

It's nothing like My Home Hero but will remind you of Cyberpunk Edgerunners(with no action) or maybe Blade Runner

my home hero was instantly a disappointment, especially compared to the manga. this particular series is really enjoyable and doesn't have garbage tier animation quality

Not in the slightest so far, it's more of a story of the week kinda show, and can't be compared to my home hero

I see. I think that's the observation I was looking for. It gives me an idea what I'm getting when I start watching. Thank you!

As a follow up question to that-- if you wouldn't mind: would it be safe to say that it has more of a "Black Jack" and/or "Violet Evergarden" episodic set up then?

Yes, I think it would be safe to say it has violet evergarden like episodic setup

To be honest, it's ironic for me to hear that since the main reason I started comparing this to MHH in the first place were... the animation style. When I peeked at the 1st episode and they were having a meeting at a diner table, and the thumbnails for episodes I see every week looked quite similar to MHH's (either a facial close up , a character's front view paralleled to the camera, or side ways). It looked like the same animatio they usually use for novel-based mystery/thriller/sci fi, especially when a show's going to be dialogue heavy.

But when it comes to character design, "AI no Idenshi" is fairly better than MHH.

Got it! Thank you so much for sparing some time. Appreciate it a lot! ^_^
I might finally start watching it.

Yes, it seems so, more like different stories about humanoids, their personal problems and relationships with humans. Very interesting to watch. I wish that they also adapt two other mangas in this series too.

I know what My Home Hero is about, yet haven't seen it. But this is a quiet and contemplative series. There is also downtime and it can even be relaxing. It has drama and thriller/suspense as genres listed probably because there are some emotionally potentially upsetting and intense moments due to the fact that it revolves around a premise which is pretty much the existential question of the nature of humans, brains, consciousness, etc. what is the place of humans in the world, what is the place of super advanced AI like supercomputers and sentient androids, etc. But most of the format of the show in terms of how that plays out in actual practice is mostly people standing and sitting around talking - discussing and debating, rather than fight scenes, screaming, or violence.

If you've ever seen all or part of or in any way know about the series Eve no Jikan/Time of Eve from 2008, this is the series I've seen which most reminds me of that.

I do get some of the same vibes. As an anime-only, I feel Gene of Ai is going to be less episodic eventually.

Novels I have read/am reading pending approval: since November 10 2022

@Aslat24 That's quite accurate, really xD The animation looking... "flat" (to put it nicely) was the reason I compared the two, in the first place. Plus, both having that Telenovela vibe.

But now I'd say, Gene of AI is easier to watch with it being just like a "moral story of the day" family-friendly show, but with sad stories instead. While MHH is basically a thriller drama with cliffhangers and twists and turns.

Wish it was but no, its not even a underdog at this point, it totally deserves its general rating, still that doesn't mean there's nothing of interest here, the episodic stories vary heavily in quality but some of them were actually pretty good and can show what's to come in our future maybe

This anime is a big fail after Sonny Boy, don't really know what Madhouse tried to do with it, for me its the worst anime of the season that i'm watching but its still okay i guess
