The episode started out a bit weird but played out really well at the end. Tetsuro started to have some doubts about obtaining a mechanical body and he started to think over this matter.
But we still don't know what is Maetel's real mission.

Intresting episode. If you think you are absolutely right, it might still be better to think about it once more...

Next episode looks intresting...

Sooooooo... Why didn't Maetel and Tetsuro turn off the artificial sun before leaving? All they had to do was just pulling the lever

Quite an interesting episode, really liked this one! Though that sure was a massacre :/ I do wonder why Maetel has lost her motivation to travel with Tetsurou?

I really don't know how I haven't given up on this series. I could go on with the reasons up til this episode, but it'll probably be tedious and repetitive... like this show.

____

They spend a solid 5 minutes trying to convince this 'engineer'/'scientist' that turning on an artificial sun for a planet in which life evolved without light is bad.

What do they do when they observe which trigger to turn off the sun and having no danger to do so? They fcking leave! And they let 99.9% of life perish. Bazinga! Not even Kino or Ginko could do something so callous in the spirit of strict observance.

But who cares about that, let's tune in to hear the banal ramblings of Tetsuro's life experiences where he needs to have his life threatened 10 times a week before he learns a common caution that an ordinary child would hear from his mother.

Seriously this shit makes Naruto look like a goddamn masterpiece.

Dunno, I enjoy the rather melancholy, but also ridiculous episodes like this. A woman living on a pitch dark planet wants to create light. She does so, and it results in the death of her sister, her father, herself and 99.9% of her planet, despite the fact that pretty much everyone knew it would happen. We get this out of show from the late 70's? For the time, pretty impressive. Same for many other episodes.

Guess Maetel wasn't needed after the launch of the artificial son. Still you'd think she would have done a little research on the effects before launching it and Meatel and Tetsuro would have turned it off.

Well, technically this episode didn't end on a dark note. Cheers to a bright and sunny future.

Hilarious dumpster fire. Conductor reading the newspaper at the end was a highlight.

Changing an ecosystem quickly, no matter how much "to improve the living conditions of a people," can be a fatal change. Interesting to see how the population of the planet suffers the consequences with this, it is like an organism that does not adapt easily in relation to the evolution of this planet. It wasn't an episode that had a message or moral, but understanding this kind of situation makes me think about the rash changes we humans constantly make to the Earth.

I'm also a bit confused as to why Tetsurou and Maetel didn't turn the artificial sun off, as they would've saved some people if they did so.

How did the conductor get the planet's latest newspaper, when everyone on the planet was already dead? Who could've wrote it?

Idea wasn't bad from Lelan.
She just forgot that people who lived there never saw the sun. (Does they even know what the sun is?)
Suddenly get exposed by such a light and warm. That's just cruel.

A good meaningful episode.
