I think this is the most surprising MAL score I've ever seen

At the time of writing this it is at 8.30 and it has been climbing all season.

Im not saying that it doesn't deserve the rating or that it's a bad show, on the contrary I really enjoyed it. Im just very surprise because by MAL standards this feels like the most 7.6 romcom ever. But for some reason somehow a large majority of people on the internet actually agreed on the rating of a show, and I usually only see that on shows that either have a massive manga following before the anime comes out or on "classics", never in a seasonal one like this one.

Again Im not shitting on the show, I struggled to rate it between a 7 and an 8; Im just saying it's very surprising to see a show like this one do so well. For context right now it is 32nd in the romance tag and 11th on the romcom tags.

With all that being said, if you are going into this show expecting it to become your favorite anime ever or to watch an all-time classic because of the rating, I would say to lower your expectations a bit. It is a good show and you might even think it's a great show, but I don't think it reaches the highs of some of the more popular ones that you always hear about.

don't worry for me also it's a 7 ish show not fond of shota's getting celeb's it's not a bad show but also feeling kinda overrated

Not surprising IMO. It's very good, like on Kaguya Sama's level, at least so far, I didn't read the manga

Compared to other shows in Spring, this is actually rated fairly. I Believe it should be rated in high 7

well this show is not like other generic romance anime where the two main characters are brought together or forced into a relationship because of an incident but the interaction between them just happens naturally and it's successful in representing the romantic life of middle school kids, Also this anime has one of the best story development in romance anime and have great moment and story telling. that's what sets this anime apart from any generic romances out there and this is fairly rated compare to other sol romcom anime like horimiya

120 chapters and this season finished around 57 chapters. So in season 2 we get confession hehe by this pace. And no doubt this deserves 8.30 rating, cuz there is not much flaw here. Have seen so many romance and i can say this is quality one. Yea there is debate about first ep and mc guy mindset and his shyness over next episodes. but everything happened so natural in anime and despite being introvert he tried more and done more than many dense mc. Animation, music, characters, their development, comedy, romance, vibe everything is great i dont have singe complaint.

I dunno, personally I rated it 8 because of its uniqueness and enjoyability in the rom-com genre. I've seen an absurd amount of them, and all of them this season. For me, its the best one out of them all so far (this season at least).

The pacing was done just right with every episode being unique and interesting whilst gradually building character and relationship development perfectly.

Whilst it isn't the best rom-com out there, I think the world, story and characters have a uniqueness to it thats hard to describe. it really draws people in.

Unpopular opinion but I didn't like this anime all that much. The creepiness of the mc and the stalking in the early parts was uncomfortable to watch. It gets better over time but I don't sew how this is any better than a generic romcom.

I think that overall this is just a very good romcom. I really enjoy how they naturally build up a relationship between the two of them from complete strangers out of mostly complete chance encounters. Like it’s very hard to pinpoint the exact moment where Anna started to also like him and before you know it, those feelings are just there, but they don’t feel sudden or out of nowhere. It feels like a very natural progression of the relationship that I truly feel like you don’t see in a lot of romance shows. So from that perspective alone I can definitely see why this is above an 8. But coming from someone who binged the manga before watching this show because it was locked on HiDive, this was an excellent adaptation of the source material and in some ways was honestly superior to the manga. It’s just overall a very high quality product for a very high quality story, and it genuinely only gets better from here. I would not be surprised if season 2, should it at the very least maintain the same level of quality, gets above 8.5, hell even 8.7. I could honestly keep going about why this series is so good and works so well but I’ll leave it at that for now

Edit: I didn’t even mention the actual best character in the entire show, Sekine. For her alone the show deserves at least 8.5
