the lack of sound and the annoying way these characters talk are driving me insane. i'm also getting the feeling this show would have been something i would have enjoyed more when i was an edgy 15 year old. i'll stick with it for now since i've only seen 2 episodes but man i hope this gets better.

I don't think Lain really went to the Party. the way she wanted her dad to set up her computer for her makes me doubt she would go outside after that,it's the internet addicction kicking in. what I think happened to her here was that she couldn't cope with rejecting her friends so she's imagining this scenario on the internet I think. But why are the friends saying the girl looked like Lain? I don't get it.Or it could be the Accela Supplement, anyway it was a very confusing episode.

This anime is an absolute fever dream but not necessarily in a bad way-

I’ve heard good things about it, so I’ll keep going…. It’s weird, but strangely intriguing.

May be due to the dub exclusively but the voice acting takes me out of the story in a way I don't think was intended. I'm going to watch the sub.

Definitely some 90s internet talk with some weird scenes that happen suddenly. I’m guessing the dead girl possessed Lain and started to control her

Why was that guy scared of Lain? Just who is Lain to that guy? What is Lain to that guy? He called her something part of the Wired. Wired is similar to our world's "internet". Now it's been confirmed that this story isn't set in our timeline. I want to see more!

It's very evocative of Jacob's Ladder (1990) at the moment. I am deeply fascinated by how willingly Japanese media was exploring existential dread. The "lost generation" was really an important time for artists contemplating somber feelings on a visceral level, something we sort of lost to the post 9/11 anger, I think.

In the same episode where we are introduced to the doubt that Lain might have more than one personality, we get the answer that yes, Lain does have more than one personality. Not only that, she's related to a supposed prophecy, connection or some bizarre shit.

I love where this is going. You start to understand how the creators want to convey the information, and you feel like you're connecting the pieces and making progress. Then suddenly, BOOM—now you have no idea what just happened and have to rethink everything again. This series feels so complex. Every time I want to watch an episode, I have to concentrate completely, or I won't understand anything.

Very eerie and uncomfortable to watch. Can't name shows like this, it's quite unique. Everything is.. off if it makes sense, people don't act like people do, pauses are uncomfortably long. The way Lain looks at people is also yucky, she doesn't even blink.

I already watched the show like 15 years ago, don't remember a thing, but so far it's not that hard to understand as people make it... at least to me and now, when I am not 15 yo. Also I don't think everything should be clear from ep.1, it's a mystery that slowly unravels, you don't want to know who's the murderer in mystery novel in the second chapter. You work your way up, collecting the clues and connecting the dots.

Ahmm, I have so many questions, that at this point I'm just watching this anime for the vibes, because I have 0 idea what's going on.

So far, what I've managed to understand is that the Wired they all talk about must be some online world, that people spend some time off, like Lain's dad suggested last episode. It also explains why Lain's dead friend wanted to meet her in the Wired since it's the only place they could meet again (since apparentaly she's still connected to the Wired).
Also, it's clear Lain is hiding her true identity, because she acts like she doesn't know about Wired, but she clearly knew what it was last episode. Also, she really wanted for her father to set up the PC, for a good it might be.

It also seems like Lain is important in this Wired, related to some kind of "God", which I suppose might be a cult. It seems this "God" has a lot of power in the Wired, and is blackmailing people into doing things in the real world, like the guy that shot those 2 girls, for some reason. And that same guy recognized Lain, saying she can no longer make him do stuf if it's in the real world, to which she replies "We are all connected", and then the guy kills himself. Also, her way of being completelly changed that moment.

This might explain why her friends saw "her" the day before, maybe it really was a version of Lain. The opening highly suggests that Lain is trapped/part of this Wired dimension, and that she's an important character there.

I don't know what Lain is plotting behind our back, but it's not something good, since it seems she's getting visits by the blue eyed guy and that girl with the creepy faced that got hit by the train last episode, that appeared as a hallucination this episode.

Lain's sister seems to be the only one to suspect and care to what Lain is doing, although we still don't know what Lain is doing.

This anime is so confusing and creepy, that you end up kinda wanting to watch it more to see if you can start understanding whatever is happening.

Also, hearing the opening for the 2nd time, and the song really is good, and it's by a english band, I wasn't expecting that. Anime from 90s were crazy.

More important question: how were 14 year old girls entering the club? I don't know how things were in 1998, but it's kinda crazy Lain is just chillin' at the club.

Also, what was that drug about? Is it going to be important in the future?
