It's clear that Yamada is a high schooler while Akane is apparently a University student. But is their exact age gap indicated anywhere?

Yamada is highschool senior, while Akane is college freshman, so literally one or two years gap. Both are legal adults.
Yes, we already had one "problematic Twitterian" thread.

Read în some forum or comments section debating this topic that Akane just turned 20 since she has 0 resistance to alcohol and Yamada is going to turn 18 sometime in the future and they'd start dating then

I don’t understand why people think that if someone is a high school student they can’t date someone who isn’t. Not this thread but so many complain about shit like that. And sometimes I wonder, have these people ever experienced reality? As long as the age gap is realistic and the maturity isn’t too far apart it should be socially acceptable.

It may not be "legally" acceptable in most countries or societies, but socially its actually pretty common. Where I'm from, many schoolgirls date adults openly, nobody cares (of course, these adults are like 2 to 5 years older than them)

2 years age gap is not a big deal and it's legally accepted in majority of the country.

Hes 18 and shes 20 so only 2 year difference. In the manga hes in his 3rd year of hs and she is in her 2nd year of uni. Its not a big diff~

Both aren't legal adults. They already established that he's too young to drink.
That being said the age gap is negligible. Quite frankly, I would say Yamada is psychologically older. He certainly seems more mature.

Legal age in Japan is 18, but you still can't drink until 20 and Akane was literally completely smashed, bruv.
