Orange (anime) is a complete story with 13 eps and a movie. I haven't read the manga but I suggest you watch the anime first. You will enjoy it.

Yes, I watch both the new version and the old version. The old version's plot is basically the same as 1st season of the new version so you could choose not to watch it unless you want the nostalgic feeling.

Your high-rated shows are usually shoujo romance, and I like this genre a lot since it digs deep into the female lead's feelings toward the male lead. The romance is usually narrative and in-depth.
