For people who are not familiar with Konorano (Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!), it is basically an annual light novel guide book that publishes a list of the top ten most popular light novels according to readers polled on the Internet and votes from "collaborators" (critics, influencers, and other people related to the light novel industry). It also has the best male, female, and illustrator category.

Mahiru ranked first last year and rank first again this year for the best female category ranking, winning against popular characters such as Kei from COTE and Yukino from Oregairu. The LN itself ranks fourth for the LN ranking and Amane ranks third for the best male category. The illustrator Hanekoto also ranks third this year.

Congratulations!

Mahiru is every boy’s dream: beautiful and smart. She is a near professional-level chef. She cleans house and looks after all the needs of our best boy. She is virtuous. She is mature beyond her years. She has wisdom born from hardship. She loves her boyfriends’s parents. She is perfect in every way. I would be shocked if another character won best girl.

I see why, she's perfect wife material in the most realistic sense.

Came here to say something, seen others are taking the words out of my mouth.. doesnt matter, she really deserves it, having read up to the first few chapters of vol3 by now in short sucession, seeing both their grown is a pure bliss, and there is lots of development for each volume.

I don't really understand the hype and the high ratings for this LN. I watched 6 eps of anime and it was around average for me. Is the LN really that different (better) than the anime? I mean, the content was generic with many cliched scenes... and the anime was very cringe for me.
No offense to people who liked the series and I am don't want to argue too. I was just wondering maybe the LN is lot better than anime by taking their ratings into account.

The LN is very slow-burn romance, and a really enjoyable read.
Very relaxing cute wholesome stuff.

The anime is more rushed in the story, poorly animated sometimes, and it fails to convey the same feelings most of the time.

Sounds like another Light Novel gotten mistreated in anime form. This means I gotta dive into the LN if I want to have a good comprehension of things.

Completely agree with what MadanielFL said. Personally, the anime is still enjoyable for me but I feel like it could not fully convey the same feelings as the LN, which is normal since we know it is extremely difficult to adapt LN into anime. The animation can be quite stiff at times as well and that does not help. Still enjoy it though.

Mahiru stops the COTE sweep in Kono Light Novel Ga Sugoi 2023~
Karuizawa Kei is no2.

@VardhanD, to answer your question:

The LN is a slow-paced fluffy romance, not a fast-paced romcom.
Project No9 turns it into a fast-paced romcom because they want to rush to the scene at the end of Volume 4. Hence, the anime does not progress very well at times as compared to the LN.

In the LN community, most people will recommend this LN if you ask for a romance title. Followed by Unnamed Memory and Roshidere.

If you are into slow-paced fluffy romance, I recommend you to read this LN. This LN is easy to read as compared to most LN titles.

If you enjoy the LN, I can give you more LN recommendations that are similar to Angel Next Door:

1) Unnamed Memory. Has the amount of fluff but it is based in a fantasy world. I also recommend this title to time-travel fans. However, this LN can be hard to read due to the huge number of characters and many things going on at the same time.

2) Days With My Stepsister (Gimai Seikatsu). As of right now, I am in the middle of reading Volume 1. Not really romance but there are similarities in characters becoming closer and trusting each other. For this LN, it is stepsiblings instead of neighbours. As of right now, there is only a fan-translation, easy to read.

3) Alya Sometimes Speak Her Feelings In Russian (Roshidere). I have not read this yet but there are a lot of similarities according to the LN community. Alya is type B tsundere that will look out for the male lead, kind of similar to Mahiru. But the male leads are different. In Alya, the male lead is a troublemaker while Amane is a dull guy. I heard that this LN is easier to read than Angel Next Door. I will read it when Yen Press translate more volumes.

Hope this helps. :)

Yeah, started reading LN from vol 4 and I should admit that it's really good. Seriously didn't just rush things but the animation was stiff too. LN was lot better. I am halfway through vol 5.
Btw, should I go with WN after that?

Oh, thanks for the recommendations!
I am actually interested in unnamed memory, not fir it's fluff but for the 'fantasy, time travel, huge cast and lot of things happening at same time' part. It's anime was announced so I am kind of in a dillema to whether start the LN or wait for anime...

I read around 2 vols of gimai seikatsu, it was fine, kind of kept it on hold.

I have only read the first 4 volumes of Angel Next Door. Currently waiting for Yen Press to translate more volumes before continuing~
There is a fan translation version until Volume 6, not sure about Volume 7~

The WN versions are usually a draft of the LN. There might be some differences.
