Oh boy, this sure was quite an interesting episode in many ways, i personally really like how multiple storylines were established and executed in this episode, all of which were really interesting and gives us a deeper understanding of the world, the characters and their struggles as well the lore and which kinds of potential conflicts lie before us. Last episode a change of pace was established,from the turbulent arc introducing bond to the family to a seemingly more peaceful and comedic momentum dominated by slice of life scenes and comedy,it also shifted the focus back on the core conflict of the show,operation strix.
Being in this momentum,the episode started out quite peacefully and simple,with phenomenal Anya and Becky Shaenanigans. The absurdity of the concept of having a child carry the burdens of potential global destruction and war never fails to be a great concept for comedy and light hearted laughs (even though this is also what makes it interesting and engaging story-wise).
i cant deny,these shaenanigans of Becky with her having a crush on loid were entertaining,though her extreme desire for romance is really unrealistic for a child (even though she is really smart,it just doesnt feel realistic,but this is definetely not a negative point,just an observation/my opinion). Also Beckys and Anyas friendship will never fail to make me smile,these two are just adorable.
Pairing Anya up with Damian created a great opportunity to give Damian some more nuanced characterization after the foreshadowing that has been done in the first part, it also provided the opportunity for these two to deepen their current relationship and dynamic,and oh boy did they deliver in doing that.
Since the first part of season 1, Damian was always a character which striked me and filled me with great interest. It was obvious that there is more behind him than just a bully who wants to be cool, in fact this thought had already been deterred in the first part through some hints, and i am glad that we are going more in-depth about his character and background,because just like most characters of this show, his behaviour seems to be a result of the cruelty and darkness that surrounds him. He is nothing but a little boy who wants to be loved and accepted by his father,which is touching and tragic,and als gives us an explanation behind his tsundere character. i am looking forward as to how Anya will influence his character, as well as having more lore on the desmond family in general.
Though it was unexpected, we also got some focus on other things which changed the momentum from a relaxed one to a tense one.Like in the few last episodes,it gave us a small insight of Sylvias character,and her inner monologue,which was quite fascinating. The process behind all of the politicial maneuvering was also really intriguing,i also loved the dad moment we had from Loid in his conversation with Sylvia.
Overall, this episode merged storytelling and comedy quite well,and i am definetely interested on the established storylines of the Desmonds and Sylvia, and how that will interact our main characters.
