I've started watching Gintama in 2011. Absolutely loved it at first. Loved several sequel entries that followed after, but at some point it became kind of lame. The whole Utsuro arc felt super repetitive, lacked humor and was generally mediocre experience to me, which was a bit sad compared to how greatly it was received by me at start.

Do you agree or not?

It's not rare to see similar takes to yours. But personally, I found story arcs great. One of the best stories in anime.

I think the silver soul arc was a bit too stretched and repetitive but the final movie was redemption for gintama

Kind of agree. Early story arcs were great, and then eventually after Shogun Assassination Arc, they just fell off bad

Silver Soul arc is way better in the manga so I can see why. Anime left out some things, important character moment traits and moments

nah... for me it's kinda get better and better... gag humor still have, what a gintama without humor... but when you see gintoki fully wrath the whole genre change drastic goosebumps every second .....just ending make me curious when utsuro enter takasugi body ... that's mean takasugi had utsuro blood in him...in movie we saw takasugi reborn as a baby doesn't mean he still had utsuro blood or utsuro already dieed because of his heart was destroy by shouyo sensei?!?!aghhhh my head

I disagree.

Shogun assassination was where Gintama peaked.

Farewell shinsengumi was 10/10 but not as good as SA

Rakuyou was 10/10 but not as good as SA

Silver soul arc part 1 was 9/10 for me.

Silver soul arc part 2 was 10/10 but not as good as Shogun assassination arc, Farewell shinsengumi or Rakuyou.

Gintama the very final was really good and it's my favorite movie.

I love the comedy but I also love the serious arcs.

In my opinion the serious arcs just kept getting better and better after Season 1

Everything after Enchousen for me was a drop in quality. Not enough for me to drop it*, but for me to not feel the same as when I started.

*At 300+ episodes in…I think I’d like to finish what’s left…

Na I 100% disagree. The reason Gintama is a great show is not only because it did comedy well but it was able to seamlessly balance being funny and serious at the same time. Yoshiwara in Flames, Shinsengumi Crisis, Kintama, Courtesan of a Nation, and Four Devas are great examples. The show peaked at the Shogun Assassination arc and it had little to no comedy at ALL and was mostly plot. Imo if Gintama had just stayed as a comedy slice of life the ENTIRE time the show wouldn’t have been as varied and emotionally layered, the serious arcs helped to add more depth to the characters. So no I don’t think it fell off at all, if anything it showed more versatility as it went on.

I had the exact opposite experience, felt like the writing skyrocketed around the SA arc

Utsuro is a pretty trash villain tbh. If the last 50 episodes were more spread out with humor inbetween then the series would be better for it tbh.
He died doing what he wanted, no matter what, right? I bet he was happy.

Good luck with berserk Kouji Mori, you'll need all the help you can get. We believe in you.

gintama is one of the shows that you would never realize how bad it fell off based on scores because sequel bias has uplifted the later seasons up so much

shut it.

I’ve read most major series. For me this is as good as One Piece if not more. The universe of Gintama is smaller, but it’s in no way inferior to one piece, Naruto or any other series in dept, back story or emotions.

Gintama is an absolute masterpiece.

Most of those who badmouth this probably dropped it after 59 episodes or smth since it was too silly. You probably never found out about the backstory of Gintoki, which is way better than any character from One Piece. Character depth in Gintama is top notch. Tell me one character who had such complicated story than Samata Gintoki, I’ll wait.

I also preferred the comedy, it went downhill for me when the arcs were taking up a full cours. They felt stretched out way too much. 2-5 episode is the optimal time for one story.
The last 30% of Gintama was 90% long arcs and that was too much.

There was something about being moved from Jump to another company so is the manga still ongoing or is that just another joke?

I could see them doing a film every 5 years, city hunter has got some new films 25 years after it finished so you can never say never.

Couldn't agree more. Gintama shines in its comedy. When it got serious, it became the very thing it made fun of.
