I watch a bit of everything but my favorite genres would be Moe, slice of life, romcom and medieval fantasy. Examples for each of these would be Lucky Star, A Silent Voice, Toradora and Berserk 1997. I personally tend to stay away from shonen, idol, and magical girl anime. Though on rare occasions I indulge in each of these in the hopes of finding one that changes my views on each genre. More recently Gintama, Haikyuu and Hajime no Ippo have changed my perspective of shonen a bit.
When it comes to anime I find casual slice of life shows to be my cup of tea. With a decent premise and mildly clever writing these shows usually end up being good fun which is all I ask. More action oriented shows have to do more to impress me. Basically I rate alot of slice of life shows around 6-8 while action shows are often scored with more variety. Although there are always exceptions of course.
I (usually) don't give ratings to shows that are less than 60 minutes in length. Comparing such shows to full movies or entire series is unfair to them. Also, Movies and series are rated slightly differently. Movies should generally focus on being entertaining/ engaging for the majority of its length due to how movies are meant to be viewed in one sitting. While series generally have more leeway to do as they please overall due to their extended length. Each medium has different strengths and I (partially) judge them based on how well they take advantage of the medium each series is presented in.
It's hard to score manga. When you only read physical manga its hard to not fall for a series and end up only giving ratings of 7-10. Unfortunately I've fallen into that trap a bit. So take my Manga ratings with a grain of salt.
