The series has proven itself excelent so far...like a typical japanese drama.

The only thing that I didn´t like was the art in this episode...very poor.

Yep, it was the deteriorating animation that made me put this otherwise great anime on hold.

I liked the episode, it was great, the art was ok

I also loved the part where shino hits that annoying fat guy in the face
"Every man shall reap what he has sown, from the highest lord to the lowest gutter rat. And some will lose more than the tips off their fingers, I promise you. They have made my kingdom bleed, and I do not forget that"

He really is an idiot. smh did it never occur to him to at least check out the damn sword at least once after fighting with sketchy demon lizard tongue guy who knocked it out if his hand and presumably did weird things to it? This could have all been avoided, and where's that damn guy who's supposed to be delivering Shino the real sword?!

Yes, the art style changes are deliberate because this was a very artsy project and they allowed different animators to show off their styles. But yeah, I agree, I'm not a fan of this episode's look. It looked almost cartoonish and took away from the seriousness and atmosphere

This episode made a very strong impression on me, the science of movement, color and sound during the monster scene is incredible. It is also brilliant later, during the sword fight on the roof, but in a completly different manner. Takashi Anno sure is an underrated director...

So sad that viewers above don't see past the ""art"" (as people say on MAL), the quality of the mise en scène is just striking if you pay a little more attention to the poetry of the images.

Amazing auteurist episode, the dislike it gets here is unwarranted. Fighting scenes had pretty comlplex camera movement, and "cartoonish" episodes don't usually have monster heads flying around together with limbs and blood.

Most praise should go to Takashi Nakamura though, who did episode&animation direction here, as well as some key animation (there were only 2 key animators aside from him, 3 in total, compared to 18 in the 1st episode, 12 in the 2nd and 11 in the 3rd). And, well, he outright changed the character designs to better fit his style. Look the man up!
