She just seems so poorly written. From being a genius without any explanation as to why she's so smart to having a bonding moment with her dad only for the show to completely ignore it in the next episode.

For a show that seemed to have so much promise in the character development department after the first episode, we're 6 episodes in and I can honestly say the character development in this show is honestly sh*t.

Its like this really, she's always right and better in all capacity than Gagumber is.

Gagumber is only there to either be the one doing a poor decision or either be on the receiving end of any unfortunate event. The duality of experience vs flat genius doesn't work at all, because Memenpu is always shown as being more capable.

I'd dare to say that she's heavily entrenched in Mary Sue territory while the author is trying to trick us in thinking it is not the case.

The more the show goes on, the more Gagumber because a useless buffoon, talk about fast pace Flanderization

Are the two of you even watching the show? There've been loads of points that explicitly demonstrate how Gagumber is important to both her and the story, as well as how her childishness is holding her back.

And what would comprise an "explanation" for why she's so smart, anyway?
Well I for one already loved Lain.

I wasn't referring to how important Gagumber is to the show? I'm talking about how in 1 episode she nearly dies from going off on her own, so you would think she would learn not to, but nope the show ignores that and has her do the same thing a few episodes later. It's pointless and lacks any real development for her character. It feels like an episodic show, where the last episode has no importance on the next.

ahh yeah, as much as i like this show you're definitely right. no one develops here. not memempu, not gagumber, nobody. memempu still being the reckless death wisher kid she is without learning her lesson, gagumber being the "good for nothing adult", and though he does get his cool moments its only when memempu needs them since "she doesnt have experience" then he goes back to his slobby self again

I dropped it after a couple of episodes because of the poor writing, I had some hopes it would improve but it just seemed to be getting worse. I can't stand either Gagumber or Memempu.

I agree, Memepu's a child prodigy but she still has those childish tendencies. She also cannot measure risk for the life of her it gets so annoying seeing her risk everyone's lives on her own volition

Not for me, I like here, but I know she's so focus on her adventure and wanna see the place of her dream, and don't really care about her team being exhausted etc

But ! Its all explained at the end of the season, and you have to still be watching to know why she's a genius, and why she's like that =/

The most annoying part of this show is not Memempu, it is that bad parenting. Yes, Memempu has a few doctorates and PHD's, but she is still a kid learning about the world. Her father keeps letting her get away with everything, no matter who it endangers. A good example is episode 7 when the gang needs a hospital and Memempu just keeps forcing them to move on because *she* wants to get the place in her hallucinations. Not only does he not scold/punish her for her selfishness, he actively encourages and feeds into her self-destructive tendencies. It would be best for everyone if Gagumber just put her in her place for once and took her off her high horse.

Honestly though! She goes through "that" experience in the first couple of episodes; and that then strengthens the driving force behind her passion? There's no real exploration of the impact of loss on a 9 yr old's mind. By simply needing a way to drive the plot forward, they focus on Memempu's genius/intellect in a way that presents her as a mad scientist: Lack of fear, does anything for answers, reckless abandon.
Any form of maturity is tossed to the side for plot

I agree that character development is not good. I can forgive Memempu however, I mean she might be book smart, but in the end she was raised by "BER". It's shame what happened at the end of ep 8, it could have raised this anime's score a lot, but it still was an enjoyable show.
