You probably shouldn't waste your first experience of this franchise on this anime

I watched the first episode which has nothing to do with the games really. At that point I decided to just stop watching the anime and play the games.

Muv-Luv Extra was alright I'd say you only need to do one main heroine's route.
Muv-Luv Unlimited was pretty good again you only need to do one heroine's route.
Muv-Luv Alternative was amazing.

Extra introduces you to the characters and their personalities. Unlimited sets the stage for Alternative which delivers the goods.

I will say that while you don't have to experience Extra and Unlimited to experience Alternative not doing so will significantly diminish your experience going forward. It basically goes against the nature of the whole thing. It's like you could watch Return of the Jedi without watching A New Hope and The Empire Strikes back but why?

You're already going to suffer adaptation decay just because of the anime's nature. To add to it the missing context of the missing prequels you're just doing yourself a disservice.

If you do a minimal playthrough of all these games it's a 60 hour experience. Condensing that down to about 5 hours isn't really possible without huge sacrifices.

Watching this anime without having first played all those games is like going to McDonalds to get something healthy. If you aren't looking for their staple unhealthy foods you shouldn't bother.

If you don't want to experience the impact of a story that's dependent on buildup over multiple games why bother?

Dude! Stop hating on Muv-Luv Alternative for no reason. But, I can't wait to see Muv-Luv Alternative episode 4, and there's the new episodes of Muv-Luv Alternative every Wednesday, and finally, I can't wait to see the final 12th episode of Muv-Luv Alternative before Christmas.

It's not like people want to bash on it needlessly you know. For me, the anime neither good nor bad. I just watch it as a fan. But maybe for some who truly enjoy or love the franchise, seeing it being treated like this may be frustrating to them. Personally for me, it's still okay just slightly fast paced. As long as they don't force everything into 1 cour, i'm okay with it.

Agree. This anime is definitely trash, I don't like hating, but after the last episode it's just a disaster. It doesn't even feel like it's trying to tell a story. Seriously, by watching this instead of reading the VN, you are just doing disservice to yourself. And honestly, there are better trash anime out there.

This will definitely go down as one of the worst adaptations ever.
