I've watched the first two episodes and this 8 year old bossing her dad around and being some super genius is terrible... it's like a disney fantasy movie with none of the magic, exactly what I try to avoid by watching anime.

I don't mind a wholesome father/daughter dynamic. It's kind of rare to see in anime, especially as the protagonists. I dig it so far but to each their own.

Their dynamic would be better if the 8 year old actually respected his knowledge as someone 20 years older than her.

Maybe, but she's 8 years old so she doesn't understand logic yet. I was a stupid pain in the ass as a kid myself, and how she is portrayed isn't far off from the reality of that, for an anime.

I like their dynamic so I've been really enjoying this show. If their relationship annoys you, it's probably time to give up on the show.

I say give it time. Yeah Memepu is a bit of a brat at times, but it's 2 episodes in. I am hoping she grows to respect her dad as the series goes on as a result of their adventures.

She's just a kid come on. There are various types of kids in this planet. Some may already become mature while some are still immature. This kid falls in the latter. I like these kinda of characters as it gives more room to develop.

ur rly going off to an 8 yr old😭😭 there's been several relationships where a kid banters a lot with her grandfather and its fine but when a kid does it with her father its horrible? and they're Bantering, they're just that close and both are fine with it being like that.

Well they haven’t started their actual journey yet so things may change. In episode 2 it seemed like it was hinted that Gagambar had some knowledge about the Kaiju that may not be overly common for workers to have and in the end he seemed quite competent. I like the way the show is going and I hope as the story continues that Memempu realises there is a lot more to her dad than she thought, perhaps he has some sort of past such as him actually being a very talented explorer (I forget the term the show uses) but then he lost his wife in an accident and retired from that, wanting to never lose anyone like that ever again. After all it did seem to hint that Gagambar had lost someone (presumably Memempu’s mum). That’s the way I’d like there relationship to go but I think I’ll enjoy it either way.

I think it's a bit overdone at this point. The last few seasons each had at least one decently popular anime about a father-daughter relationship.

Well, then go an avoid it. I don't get it what people want to achieve with these types of threads (in general)? "Can anyone else", "is it just me" - Of course you can't be the sole person who thinks similarly. You're not here to find soulmates though, right? Or count them. It just boils down to ranting about a show you didn't like. It's perfectly normal if you don't like it for whatever reason, but why draw attention and make a pointless thread???

Yeah, she supposedly graduating college and being portrayed as mature, doesn't really make sense how childish she is while bossing the father

Their dynamic would be better if the 8 year old actually respected his knowledge as someone 20 years older than her.

Or just respect him at all not only because he's older than her, but because he's is her father
She's treating everyone else normally, except her father, which she should respect the most.
If it was her mother that she was disrespecting like that, you would see the entire anime community melting.

Nah. Some of the most popular female characters in anime are girls who hate their mothers. You don't know what you're talking about.

I think the whole point is that Memepu treats Gagumber poorly because she wants independence. She sees herself as a grown up even though she's such a young kid, and though everyone else treats her as an adult, all her father sees is his little girl. But even if she's exceptionally smart, she's still a child and doesn't know everything about the world. Gagumber wanting his daughter to stay in his life (sometimes overlooking her talents) is an understandable motivation.

In short, I think this is part of the conflict. Not every family has things figured out or even a great relationship. This is doubled when you consider the constant danger people in Sakugan seem to face. Episode 3 showed us that even if Memepu thinks she doesn't need her father, she's still a scared child that needs someone to look out for her even if she's talented.

If you prefer a more wholesome Father/Daughter relationship, may I suggest Sweetness and Lightning? ^^

Personally I don't care she is just 8 years old, I know kids who are way more respectful and not arrogant like this girl. I know she'll go through some development but as of now I find characters like her just grating and annoying from years of dealing with people like this well into adulthood.

Then skip it. I'm in ep 4, but so far I'm enjoying it.
