Finally, some time away from the school and more of a relaxing vacation time. These girls needed it after all the hard work, drama, studying, etc.

Glad to see even characters like Ai getting their much deserved time to relax. Sarasa and her personality is also just as adorable and charming as kid in her childhood.

The Kouka girls definitely needed their Summer break. For Ai, it's staying over at Sarasa's house since staying at the dorm would only torment her.

Sarasa's mind is definitely still on last episode on Andou-sensei's criticism about her Tybalt being a recent copy of someone else's, that would not spell well within the walls of Kouka. Hah, calling Andou-sensei the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera, no wonder his dedication is burning from within, even after an injury to help others reach goals that he couldn't do.

Going back to Sarasa's house, and considered a vacation more than anything to rekindle with loved ones with whatever short time they have. Sarasa's family extension is quite the size, and Akiya got the shock of his life when Ai surprised him though.

The backstory of Akiya's family being born in the line of Kabuki actors, the young-uns childhood friends like Sarasa and Akiya have a lot of stakes and pressure to deliver and live up to from a young age. Sarasa is a well-rounder, but Akiya...let's just say that he succumbs to stage fright easily, and being a boy performing in Kabuki shows, the fact that the Akiya's family only accepts boys to succeed them...is just sad. Sarasa can only perform in Kabuki shows, and that's it.

But that's the way of the Kabuki business, and gender sexism has always been the bulk of the cause. And that's why the relationship betwen Sarasa and Akiya feels genuine, while keeping their professionalism in check. In the same sense, Ai also understands Sarasa's plight in the same-same-but-different manner. With that, the short Summer break is over, and they get back to their business moving forward.

"Never" is a curse.

Ai is so damn cute, tagging along with her first friend during summer vacation. It was really cool to get Sarasa and Akiya’s backstory. Now we understand Sarasa’s motivation a lot better. Really messed up to talk down to a little girl and tell her she’ll never be able to do Sukeroku.

“They’re shaking hands, aren’t they dating” lmaoo I love Ai.

It was nice to see Sarasa's past and her backstory about kabuki.
That's it! Sarasa needs to find her own style, she will not able to be a top star from copying someone. However, it was not entirely her own fault, it came from the difference in principles between kabuki and the stage plays after all.

Great to see Ai slowly changing, opening up, and being more observant.
But she doesn't know that holding hands is the lewdest form of intimate display you can do in public.

An episode looking more into Sarasa and her 'boyfriend'. I put boyfriend in quotes there because as Narata noted, it doesn't seem like there's much affection... But I guess we will get more info on that in the future.
Sarasa clearly having a hard time with what Andou-sensei said, and Akiya tries to give her some advice, hope it helps. Seems like a complicated past for Sarasa and Akiya.

Never really paid attention to the ED, but given the current information as well as Sarasa's height...is this one of those "she was destined for a male role" moments? She's walking down that senpai's fate (wanted to only play female roles, but can be a top star now branching out from what she had in mind).

The pace was much too fast this episode. It would have been better to get some more time fleshing out Sarasa’s and the other boy’s backstories so it could’ve left a bigger impact. As of right now, it all feels very forgettable and not very meaningful to their characters.

Nice episode, Ai's comment at the end of "they're shaking hands, aren't they dating?" was funny lol. It's both funny and sad that Sarasa is in a female-only performing art and her bf is in a male-only performing art.

Also, I think it's obvious at this point that they aren't going to go the shoujo ai route with Ai and Sarasa, but i'm definitely getting gay vibes from the winter troupe top stars lol

Andou sensei was right, Sarasa should become herself not others. But "never" is a curse to Sarasa, she should defeat that word first from her mind. Conflict beetwen family there kinda look bad. Are the boy and Sarasa supposed to be couple right? Really what i'm feeling right now same as Narata Ai.

If Sarasa is actually Kouzaborou's illegitimate child, then boyfriend-kun is actually Sarasa's uncle.

I feel like Sarasa's concept of boyfriend is pretty much just male friends lol.

Alright. Lots of backstories this time. Explain much how Sarasa got that trauma. Its Akiya's mother whose the one to put that scratch. Oh no, the tears, its bring more of the bad memories. The Phantom-sensei too. I can get the point now, and why Sarasa decided to do that copying thing. But come on, there's no need for a teacher to be that harsh, sensei. At least you can give her more cheers and motivations or something more good and kind, rather than putting her off into that depression. Even though i understand his situations and how he can be that harsh, still i can't help but feel, ugh, hopefully there's something more than that in the later parts....

About Sarasa, i don't have much words rather than saying, don't you worry much about that. Naracchi also had the same problem too inside of her. So why not to talks about that with you both only? Heart to heart, with an honest mind, or whatever that is, its up to you all. But for this one, end of their time to pass through the past of the tall girl. Looks like the next will be peeling more into another girl story, filling of the gap within the main story, like before with the singer girl. Lets see....

What a nice and well-written episode. I liked how the relationship between Sarasa, Ai and Akiya was developed and how Sarasa and Akiya's past was laid out. Also how Sarasa's grandparents supported her in learning how to perform kabuki even if she couldn't play the role of Sukeroku when grown up.

I'd assumed the teacher meant that Sarasa shouldn't copy other performances, but it's easy to see why she'd be so good at copying considering her past in kabuki. It's nice that she was able to talk to Akiya and they encouraged each other.

Child envy is a scary thing. Say the wrong things, or say something, and it can really have an effect on a child. It's prob why Sarasa tries so hard when she's in the zone, as if she's trying to prove herself, so that she doesn't hear that 'never' again, but also ow she's scared of it. Great writing. Really made me feel for her.

Another really great episode! Kinda wish this episode was spread out to 2 episodes at least since it felt a little fast, but it was still really great. That backstory was definitely Sara-sad, that's one complicated family. It also explains why Kouzaburou is always doting on Sarasa, she's his child although illegitimately.

Naracchi was hilariously adorable this episode lmao, same question though, I wonder if Akiya and Sarasa are really dating or they're probably just awkward and doesn't know how to act in a relationship. I personally think it's the latter probably.

I wonder how Sarasa is gonna improve and find her own acting style, really looking forward to the next episode.

Interesting to see the differences in performance between kabuki and takarazuka (theater). I've always been interested in theaters and stage acting (as a kid I wanted to join a theater group too, but the tiny town I grew up in didn't have one) and this anime highlights the working behind it really well. Also, nice to see more background stories of the characters.

I don't know, for me its cute to see Kabuki x Takarazuka pairing. This is not the first show with this, but you still rarely get to see it.

As I recall the manga, they were "forced" to date, but in the end it turned into something sincere. But I could be wrong.

Really good episode like always. The akiya flashback was interesting and it felt a little different content wise from usual probably cause of the setting ranged but it was refreshing.

As I thought, Sarasa is amazing at copying others performances, but what she needs to learn/show herself.

Man, that sh*t about that old man being her father makes me feel like researching, the wiki is pretty new with almost no content/spoilers, well, gotta wait until we get more info.

THIS is what's so surprising to me.

The manga has been out for quite some time according to Wikipedia, but I guess prior to the anime it wasn't popular (in the west)? Although I guess it's debatable how popular the anime is :D
Even official or fan translations don't seem to be too far into the manga.

Man, what's the problem with these theater people? I swear, the toxicity in Japanese theater is something else. Poor kids.

Well... as expected, last episode's cliffhanger was done for mere melodramatic purposes. They didn't even recall Andou-sensei's exact words at all if I remember correctly.

That aside, it was another fantastic episode. Sarasa was so adorable when she was little and the acting skills she showed at such early age sure were impressive. Not to mention it was also quite interesting to learn about how different the basis are in both Kabuki and Takarazuka. So copying someone else's performance is basically a norm in Kabuki, huh? Well, that explains why Sarasa's act was so impeccable while portraying Tybalt.

And as for Akiya, he seemed kinda bland at first but he's actually a pretty decent character. Was also expecting some inferiority complex at some point but I'm glad to see he's more mature than that. Really liked seeing him and Sarasa encouraging each other to give their best in their respective arts.

Oh! And on another note, I'm so happy to see Ai getting better and better at interacting with other men.

I love all of Ai-chan moments this episode!

Finally we have established a backstory for Sarasa and Akiya's Kabuki background, and why Sarasa's very into the copying the master thing, because to her knowledge it is way it is from the Kabuki world. Well now she gotta change it though, because Kageki is different. I hope she'll bring the best side of Kabuki and Kageki, obviously as an otoko-yaku now.

Also, kinda figured out about Phantom-sensei's background beforehand, but damn that's sad. Kinda wanna see the girls do Phantom of the Opera now.

So Sarasa is actually Kozaburou's daughter, huh? Never would have guessed as he looks pretty young to have fathered such a big kid. Something of a young passion mistake maybe, with him falling for the daughter of the tatami shop family that served that big famous kabuki family the daughter of whom he was set to marry, or something? Which raises the question of what eveen happened to Sarasa's mother...

When Akiya was giving birthday present to Sarasa in the presence of Ai, that's when I was like “are they really dating” ◐.̃◐ Even Ai is starting to question their relationship XD

When Sarasa said boyfriend, I think she just meant boy-friend cuz that's some awkwardness and formalness they have even when they're dating XD but it could also be that since they're young they don't know how bf-gf stuff is normally like.

When the teacher just straight out said “you can never be the top star” to Sarasa it pissed me off but after his explanation it does make sense. Sarasa is too good at copying others but instead of copying other's acting she should show her own acting.

Kouzaburou being Sarasa's father is quite unexpected, kinda makes it seem more weird.

Careless mistake by Akiya but can't blame him much since he was a kid and his jealous grandmother should be blamed instead for making little Sarasa cry. Sad for Sarasa for not only denied playing kabuki but also losing her dear grandmother not long after that.

The direction was not good this episode, every scene just went by like they had to reach a certain amount of them before the episode ended, this whole episode felt like a big shrug.

Something I haven't comment yet is Why Sarasa post everything about her life on Twitter, girl needs a talk about how to use social media.

Sarasa learned all those when she was just a child so it stuck more to her. She has some serious unlearning to do, which may be difficult. I am excited to see how she develops after all these.
