Don't get fooled - this show does not belong in the 'action' and 'martial arts' genres. It's 'slice of life'. So I'm dropping it.

There is nothing unusual, thought-provoking or interesting about the MC - he's an NPC stuck in the MC role, his internal monologues consisting of musings about his training, him not wanting to die and comments on the world around him of the sort 'this big sister is pretty'. (It's weirdly just like reading visitor comments in Rollercoaster Tycoon all over again.) Most of the time he's in autistic mode and doesn't interact with anyone. Speaking of interactions - there is a bunch of recurring secondary characters, but they hardly have any screen presence, and once they do appear, it's always in relation to something the MC does, usually so he can surpass them, because, remember, THERE IS NO PLOT OUTSIDE THE MC'S TRAINING IN THIS SHOW.

It's an anime that have an harem in it, and it's very far from being a main component of the anime, don't try to make it look like it's something like a random japanese harem anime. And for someone who tried hard to look like an expert on "wuxia" in your review (You're wrong btw, this anime is a xianxia) you're surprisingly ignorant about the fact that a LOT of cultivation novel are also harem (and real one, not the fake japanese one).

+ I'm honestly confused how I made it seem like a random Japanese Harem anime? Not planning to sound offensive, if that's how it comes off to you guys (the two who answered). But I'm genuinely confused. Call me uncultured, but harem has always been just about 1 guy + many girls to me, and that's what I was referring to. I'm sure there'll be many going to rage at me for misunderstanding the genre down below though, but I'll apologize in advance if I offended these guys. I'm just not a fan, so blame me for not understanding the genre, will you? I never said anything about JP Harem, 'fake' or not (?). All I said was it was 'harem'. I suppose it is the genre understanding which the readers read with that made it seem like some 'cheap, JP Harem'. -- Still can't say anything about that, since I'm no expert on it.

Also, I initially had xianxia in my review, but I changed it to wuxia thereafter because wuxia is more about martial arts, and this was what it seemed like to me - fighting and action ^^; Xianxia imo is more about Immortals and Gods, mostly due to influence of SVSSS and TGCF and after seeing through those episodes, it just felt closer to wuxia for me. -- Doesn't really matter to me at that time though. ^^; My point in that review was to address certain other reviews I've found on some anime sites that wondered why CL anime always seemed to require these xianxia / wuxia background knowledge in advance. Xianxia / Wuxia knowledge were pretty similar to all freshies were who were new to CL novels, so I intended it as just a warning.

And welp. Sorry for being ignorant. Yes, I know stallion novels are popular. I simply chose not to mention it, because my point in my review was the mistagging. I cross-checked three sites to make sure there was no romance before I entered into this show. As a result, you've got a pissed off rant review which I feel somewhat apologetic about.

Still, I stay true to the feelings I felt strongest about back when I was fresh out of this anime, and will leave the review up.

edit: Just realized why you thought it was JP harem! I used the term 'anime' loosely, because the word meant for CL adaptations honestly fled me. Hopefully, now you guys understand I wasn't trying to offend anyone.

Subs are very bad obviously and there is a really bad explanation about how Qi works all around along with the progression through stages. Same thing with the whole idea around them with the pills/cultivation etc for people who haven't read or seen something similar so I understand it to some extent feeling pissed about it.

Although what I wanna say is that chinese animation gets so fast doubted even tho they can still make something like Mo Dao Zu Shi which is a masterpiece by itself. (Same studio making this one as well).

It's a long series, you're making judgements off of whats equivalent to content from the first 30 chapters of a 183 chapter book... from a 7 book, 1300 chapter long series... Of course a good bit of the plot is coming from the MC's training. What action do you expect from a mortal man in a series about terrain altering immortals, gods, and demons? He has to cultivate, and if they try to rush that you're going to be complaining about how it makes no sense he's able to do all this crazy sh*t and they didn't explain/show any of it.

Most of the people who watch this have already read novel n know how good the fights scenes are ( though m.here fr his devastating alchemy), so don't comment without full knowledge
