I didn't fully comprehend the story. Can anyone explain some plot points for me? Who exactly is Shino? Why did the shogunate call him an impostor? What's with the shogunate?
It looks like Shino is from the original litter and they are all half human and half dog. They need to consume a person's essence or soul to survive. If they don't do that or wait too long between feedings, they start having issues as you saw throughout the film with Shino. The part of the film where they saw the play explains the Shogun's part in the tale. As the Shogun it is his job to hunt down and eliminate the Fuse. Because that was the mistake of the OG Shogun of letting the Fuse live. So basically the Shogun has to atone for someone else's stupidity. And that drives him literally batty and to the breaking point. The Shogun calls the Fuse impostors because they are not fully human. They basically are DISGUISING themselves as human to get around and not be noticed as much.

this is way worse than children that chased lost voices xD practically nothing significant happens... 5/10. enjoyment: 2/5.
The plot is poorly explained or really just not even there and the Fuse are poorly incorporated. It is never explained why specifically the Fuse need to feed on the essence of humans which is a HUGE plot point. I mean the animation was great and I'm glad Shino and the girl are sort of together I guess but it did sort of feel empty to me.

I kinda feel empty...

I'm glad it's happy ending even though I don't like that kind of "happy ending".

The art, seiyuus, and ending song were great.

i thought i was the only one who felt empty after watching this... i even had uneasiness with the last few minutes left in the conclusion, seriously considering whether or not to just leave the conclusion for later at a "better" time. but i went through with it, and it turned out to be a strange ending after all. i personally believe that most of the time, novels or books that are adapted into films tend to suffer in at least one way or another. usually more. although i haven't read that work, i like that it is inspired by nanso satomi hakkenden, the original hakkenden. (fusehime and her eight reincarnated dog-human warriors born with a dog, yatsufusa.) going back to fuse: teppou musume no torimonochou, you can tell there's some struggle here to present it in under two hours. not enough time to explain, just time to show their actions.

why do this, why do that, oh we're already fighting? lol

i guess my developed stride in being able to take a lot of events at face value has helped me this time, because my enjoyment for fuse is a 9/10. the backgrounds and scenery were amazing. the art style was a flat out rejection for my tastes, and speaking of flat, i did want some shading. if there was no overt light source, there was no shading on the characters anywhere from any angle. i don't know if it is my dissatisfaction acting up for no reason again but it did make them stand out from their wonderful surroundings like actors against a green screen, this is also most likely an asset depending on a separate opinion. mc bored my eye. as a character, so-so. not sold on that strange "romance", which might be a fault of the movie itself. kind of makes me laugh at how hollow it was. (sighs)

still rating it a 9. my biggest fix would probably be the art style, which objectively isn't bad. miyano mamoru as a seiyuu was a plus. all hail

I liked it, reminded me a lot of Wolf Children minus the actual children. Great art, good set of not overbearing characters, and gorier than I thought it would be (not a negative).

Like others, I got a little lost with the ending that left too many Qs.

Seemed weird that all 8 of them decided to live there, especially when the hunt was declared. It wasn't clear if they actually had any interaction with each other to cause them to stay together. Did they really need to eat souls to survive? Seems like a lot of dead people if they all needed to feed. But then how did Itezuru survive if she wasn't?

And that love declaration wasn't anticipated. Sure, there was a little spark but not what I'd call amore.

8.5 (half a point lost for the ending)
