| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- Success, money, status, fame, power, admiration are all easy things to want and aspire to, but when we reflect on them we realize that is not life. Those are but the luxuries of life. Living is just what you do, the fire you act with. Still, it’s okay to treat them as such, the sky is beautiful by itself yet sometimes we want fireworks too. Rather it is key not to aim for success, it must be a byproduct or it will only pile on you until you can hardly move or express yourself. And most importantly: It’s fine to be third-rate. This man who has defined Hiroyuki’s life in a large way, for some of his final living words, has challenged all that is holding him back and told him that he’ll amount to something. To not fear failure. He’s attempted to take the load off Hiroyuki and send him into the world, alive again. I don’t blame his emotional response.I was blown away when Harada walked outside as well and took a stroll in the grass with his socks on. It struck me that I don’t think we’ve ever seen Harada smile before like he has these last few chapters. It’s not an arrogant, desperate smile. It’s soft. I described it as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. And now, it’s obvious, it’s the smile of someone beginning to live. Beginning to do something as simple as dirty his socks and make a mess. Something Akagi would do with ease. He’s challenging the restrictions that are set, and he’s doing what he wouldn’t otherwise do. Freedom is a hard thing to access but this marks the day he begins. So walk, without constraint! I think Harada could tell Hiroyuki’s spark was smouldering too. I think he can read people, like he has attempted to read Akagi, perhaps expected as this ability is key in a game like mahjong. And Hiroyuki realized that too, that as different as he is from the yakuza leader Harada, they are the same! Life is about being alive. That is something everyone can understand. That centers us all. Those luxuries, the manner in which we live, none of that separates us. Hiroyuki, go stand in the grass with your brother!! Beautiful. |
