It would have been surprising for me... if Oha Suta hadn't shown Ash holding the trophy already. Not that him winning or losing has any impact at this point, knowing how the series works.

the worst league ever. Ash winning this league is probably the worst thing you can do for any fan who followed Ash for 20+ years. What a disappointment lmao.

right they gave this to ash instead of him being the strongest and trying his best. They just were like her even though all these other trainers are obviously stronger her just have it. I really didnt like this arc it was just.... idk how to put it into words. This isnt like the ash who won the orange league this was whatever take it ash. Everyone is happy that ash won a league but ash wasnt the best and he certainly was just give almost all the wins I mean Jesse and James were in the top 18 if that doesnt tell you anything.

He finally did it, but it feels empty........... Dunno the orange league felt more like an achievement than this. With the announcement of Shin Pokemon, I really hope that they didn't just give him the league as a way to end this. Because as much as Pokemon Sun and Moon has been a breath of fresh air, it's a horrible place to end the show.

I'm happy but at the same time feel empty and unsatisfied

The chance was missed in XY & Z.

I caught a bit of it and there was a good plotline going and convincing arguments that Ash will finally win a League were placed.

There was actual hype surrounding it and it was slaughtered at the end with Ash losing due to an asspull.

This was supposed to be a hype moment but now it feels forced cause they HAD to do it.

This solidifies this season as the worst generation of its timeline! God this whole SM thing was a disgrace! don't mind me, I'm just hella pissed when it would have been better if he won in the Kalos league which had more about Ash being a challenger from the get-go unlike here where it was mostly SoL school shiz.

Like others have said, this feels forced because they just wanted him to win the big one because the Pokemon series will take a huge turn for the next one and he may possibly be not the MC for it too so there's that, they had to let him win after all this time.

Congratulations Ash! Gladion is one of my favorite characters in Pokemon, and while I'm still salty that he didn't win, after 20+ years Ash has done it, and while it's certainly exciting, I definitely have mixed feelings.
On one hand it was a great battle overall. The hype for THIS battle was there.
-But there was one thing that got me angry. Ash's strategy for countering Never-Ending Nightmare was cool, but he used a NORMAL type Z-Move to do so. I don't know if the typing advantages and disadvantages applies to moves, but in reality, could you actually break through a Ghost type move with a Normal type move?

Also, IMO, S&M in general was just...bad. They had SO much potential--the games were so groundbreaking and revolutionary in the franchise, and the anime botched it.

And then this League...boy was this League a mess. The only battles I liked were Gladion and Guzma's battles, everything else was just....horrible.
Like, it's amazing that Ash won the Pokemon League. But every battle of his in this League (except for his battle against Guzma), was just horrible, and, in Hau's case, undeserved.
Like, Hala eliminates Ash during his Grand Trial for Rowlet falling asleep, but SUPPORTS him when it happens in the League? And while Ash is facing off against his OWN grandson? That's just...and to add to the fact that Rowlet (very obviously) took a thousand times more damage than Hau's Decidueye, and the fact that it's underevolved (only in its FIRST stage), and definitely a lot weaker. I wouldn't have minded if Ash's victory if he'd actually gotten FAIR victories, but he didn't.

And the fact that there were SO MANY fillers also made it bad. While there were some moments I liked, I definitely disliked this season more than I liked it. They could've done so many great things with this anime...

I agree with everyone else. This would've worked better in the Kalos League. Honestly, when it happened, I wasn't too mad when Alain won, but now Ash's victory here makes me mad at it.

Anyway, Guzzlord appears next episode and it looks like everyone is combining their Z-Moves. Hopefully once the League is over we can get some actual GOOD plot. Hopefully Gladion finds his father, and everything goes well. Will they have Gladion or Lillie go to Kanto with Ash like ithey did n USUM/SM? Will they give Mohn his memories back, or stick to what USUM did and have Lusamine let him go? Just...please be GOOD. Just make whatever ending they have planned be GOOD, WELL-EXECUTED, and have it MAKE SENSE.

But I guess I can ignore some of it...like I said, I'm both happy and unhappy about Ash's victory. I guess because it's been so long, I can try to accept it. (This season was still bad LOL)
So, despite it all, I'll still say: "Congratulations Ash. After 20+ years, you've done it."

That was the most "Ash" way to win, using Counter to counter Counter lol. But hey, that fight was hype and I'm glad to see Ash finally win a League after watching him since the beginning.

The Guzzlord appearing was unexpected, but I guess it never showed up here yet so it makes sense. I was kinda hoping Poipole/Naganadel would show up so Ash could have a full 6v6 fight with Royal Mask, but I won't get my hopes up (unless the massive amounts of Z-Moves used to stop Guzzlord do something???)

Giving him the win in his worst adaptation yet is like a slap to the face to longtime pokemon fans. He doesn't deserve it and would make more sense for it to be in XYZ. If the Sword and Shield anime doesn't bring back XYZ Ash, I'm not gonna watch it I'm done

while i do agree, that Kalos has the perfect setup and even the ending for Ash to win, but who woulda thought all it took was Ash to go to school to win one. too bad Guzzlord didnt let him celebrate long tho

side note: that battle just made me realize the self-inflicted damage a confused Pkmn took is likely them biting themselves to snap out of confusion...mind blown!

Now I'm curious to see what happens after this. I wonder if it will somehow connect with the new Pokemon Shin Series. We'll have to wait until some info is revealed :P

Even if more than half of the contestants of the league were just average trainers, i still feel like ash's win is undeserved. Hau's fight was clearly bullshit, and to be honest also this last one was a bit forced ( i mean, twilight form lycanroc is supposed to be squishier than night form and yet it survived 4 counters and managed to defeat gladio's one with the tip of his fur). I understand that ash is meant to fight kukui again, but at this point i would have preferred seeing guzma win the league and then "redeem" himself against kukui

20+ years of the same formula and characters gets very old and tired after a while.

Yeah yeah. As I assumed in episode 137, this was probably the now or never moment for Ash to win a league (that wasn't lowkey filler like Orange Islands). I reeeeally don't think Sword and Shield will be done too well, so it's best to have him win now while there's still passion in the series. And, to be honest, I guess I kinda believe it. Since it IS a region that hasn't really had leagues like this one, maybe they're all just a bit weaker just because there hasn't been a huge push to train as hard. Or their idea of training hard is a little different than what training hard means in other regions. I mean really, up until now, as long as your Pokemon were strong enough to complete trials and beat kahunas then they were strong enough, you know? It's a pretty laid-back region after all. Meanwhile, Satoshi/Ash is from a region where there's more emphasis placed on training hard for gyms and leagues.

So really, if Ash/Satoshi were to win ANYWHERE canonically, it really probably would be here in Alola. I guess it makes sense.;; I mean, even Team Rocket can hold their own pretty okay in the region. The region's just weak.

Not trying to downplay his win, but this really was the time to do it. Sword and Shield is going to be a mess-- Gamefreak pretty much already said it's not even their priority, so it's a smart move to not try to depend on Sword and Shield for the franchise at this point-- which is exactly why the next Pokemon anime coming seems to focus on RE-EXPLORING previous regions. It's really all adding up.

So I know it all seems forced, but this is the time. This might be the only time. No idea where Pokemon will go after Sword and Shield and I have a feeling that THEY don't even know where Pokemon will go, thus the decision to let Ash/Satoshi win. I get it. I'm fine with it. But dang, they really have NO faith in Sword and Shield.

Anyway, not a terrible fight against Gladion. I actually thought the laughing part was super cute. ;o; D'aaw. Franchise decisions aside, I still didn't really want Ash to win and still think his win against Hau was some bull. I'm lowkey hoping some referee will be like, "HM Since there was an ULTRA WORMHOLE studies have proven that Gladion's Pokemon would be weakened by it so it's not a fair fight, so hey let's have the battle continue!" Gotta fight bullcrap with bullcrap.

But anyway, I'm joking. I don't really care at this point. I see my son will be here actually doing stuff in the next episode. I have no complaints. I just like to see my dear son.

Enjoy your anime! | Witch Cafe Wisteria

I was unfortunately spoiled before I had the chance to watch the episode. The big news that Satoshi finally won an official Pokémon League from the games was all over the place. But even so the last battle between their Lugarugans was so intense that for a moment I thought it was all a fever dream or something. I could swear I saw Satoshi's Lugarugan being knocked out at least twice, but the boy did it. He won. Gladio certainly spammed a lot of Stone Edges though, And Satoshi's Lugarugan had a lot of endurance here too. lol

I'm not going to say that I'm 100% satisfied, I still feel like he should have lost to Hau or to Guzma, but I'm going to enjoy the moment either way. His victory over Gladio felt earned, and I guess this is what matters now. I love how Satoshi couldn't believe he won, and I loved Pikachu's reaction to the trophy. But Satoshi's victory ripped time, and space itself causing an Ultra Beast to appear lol, and I can't wait to see everyone fighting together against it. I wonder what's next for the anime now.

I can forgive them for ending the series here if only there is a montage of going back to every single League and winning.

Bonus points if you do it in this style:

Special starts as he departs this region in the current animation style, gets on a plane, and walks off back in the xyz style.

Also who am I kidding, they can't just leave us hanging after he finally kissed a girl.

It almost feels like xyz was the planned end then for whatever they are doing now they were like uh actually can we have a little more time??? Uh? Alola???

I'm happy that Ash finally won a league, but it is a little frustrating that he won in ALOLA, where he hardly trained at all and did not have many strong Pokemon. It's more frustrating to think about how they could've done this for XYZ where it would actually feel right, but instead they chose for him to win here. However, some people are saying that it feels forced, and I disagree. During this league, Ash actually did battle competently, definitely competently enough to defeat everyone else in the league.

I was spoiled before I could watch it, but I still enjoyed this episode. The way he countered Zoroark's Z move with Pikachu's own Z Move was nice.
Then the Lycanroc showdown. I'm sure if I didn't know the outcome, I would've thought he lost at least once or twice. But he didn't. Greninja can learn a thing or two from Lycanroc, that's for sure.

All in all, I'm happy that he finally won a pokemon League. But I guess I do also feel somewhat unsatisfied or empty. I'm not sure why though. Maybe it was because this league didn't have the usual 6v6 battles. No one can really complain about only the semis and the final being against good rivals, because that was exactly the same in the Kalos League. Only Shota and Alain were good rivals, the rest were filler and not even properly shown. Same here, Guzma and Gladio were the real rivals, and Ash surpassed them both fairly.

Good job Ash, congratulations Champion !

Hope his journey will continue, cause this can't be the end of his adventures. Not yet. He's not a Pokemon Master yet.

I can't believe this shit. Satoshi won in this weak ass and goofy region but not in epic XYZ. Yeah, this was never going to sit well with me and many others here can agree as shown in the comments. There was no hype for this league unlike with XYZ. The final match was boring in comparison. Hell, Satoshi-Gekkouga vs Mega Jukain is still the best battle in the entire series. You'd think in a match with Satoshi winning, it would be the best battle ever. He wins in a league that is happening for the first time also. lol Some dude had a Koiking... A KOIKING... in the battle royale. That's how much of a joke it is. He should have lost to Hau. The Orange League victory was better than this. It felt legitimate. This doesn't. But hey, he won so congrats.

Also, the English dub of this episode hasn't aired yet and will not air until next year. All of you people calling him Ash (even on twitter) need to slow your roll and wait your turn. The only way for you to see the episode is by watching it in Japanese. This is Satoshi's moment and you will show him that respect and not take that credit away by calling him by birth name: Satoshi.
If you see that my post is exactly 1 month old (or more) from when it was posted... Don't waste your time, especially when you want to reply with something petty & insignificant. Assume that I've moved on (because I have).
