| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- As a big Toriyama fan I thought it was time to check out some of his one shots for the first time. Not all of the chapters are available in English but I can atleast read those that are. Wonder Island was pretty good for a first story, even if it wasn't that special. The art is pretty detailed and it's recognizable as Toriyama's style. But the paneling and layout wasn't as good as in his later works. There were some real fun moments, my favourites being Furusu having to eat the rat as he pretended to be a bird and him using a paper fan to try and stay flying in his plane. And it's fun how the main character is a pilot that wants to fly as there are multiple characters that posses that ability, it really adds to the frustration of his character. |
| Wonder Island. Furusu's bird-like design is pretty great, and I think it helped sell most of the humour this chapter, like the rat thing. There's not much here to discuss other than the comedy, I love the point that he doesn't want to return home, he wants to *fly* home. And it had almost nothing to do with anything, but the random bit about Dracula being a sophisticated Vampire who uses a needle to get the blood and drinks it out of a wine glass is very good. |
