How “tropey” is it?

Never read the manga. I’ve only seen the PV, and this looks pretty nice. However, I’d like to know how tropey the source material is. As in, does it include any of the common BL tropes (non-consensual sex, Uke/Seme dynamics, etc)?

There is one particular instance that was clearly non-consensual, much to my chagrin.
However it hasn't fallen back into any of that so far.

It's keeps focusing on building relationships and of course music.
Don't know what else I can say without spoiling things too much.

So yeah not too tropey and I look forward to see what music/sound can do for this.

Thanks! Was the non-consensual part portrayed negatively? Since this particular genre unfortunately tends to brush off these kinda moments.

Yeah no problem.
The scanlations are right on the cusp of that aftermath but no it hasn't been brushed aside like nothing happened.

Also to mention the non consent part was with the side pairing (if they're going to end up as one, not sure yet with the manga still ongoing) and i doubt it'll even be in the anime. Pretty sure this adaptation will follow the main pairing and obviously the band's first arc/storyline thing

As for BL manga goes, the main pairing has a very pure relationship, thankfully, and there really isn't much else for tropes. This is definitely one of the rare BL stories that have characters with depth, i strongly recommend you read the manga^^

I don't think they'll show any r18 scenes though bc it's marked as shounen ai? at most they might hint at it or show a minute before things actually get explicit

Honestly I kinda hope they keep that scene in, not for gratuitous reasons but it(to me) was important to the development of the the two characters involved. It really didn't show anything anyway(that I remember, it's not Ten Count is what I mean). I found their "relationship" way more interesting than the main pair anyway.

The main pairing thankfully doesn’t fall directly into a uke/seme roles (thank God) and their power dynamic is interesting and complex! They also flesh out the buildup to their relationship as well as their relationship itself, but the main drama comes from its impact on the band as a whole and not from sexuality/physicality.

I think it has a lot to offer, I’m pumped!!!

So how is the plot going to be? Is this mainly focused on music and the band participating in competitions and trying to get more popular - like Carole & Tuesday or Ballroom (not musick but Shounen and dancing and the guy wanted to get stronger)?

Or is this more like SoL with a school club and no real goals that are the main focus? That would be more boring. Also it woudl be boring if the BL was the main focus with music only a side plot. If this is BL ... then it should at least be only some hinted romance without kissing/sex and withoug being the main focus ... i. e. not too many char background besides the music, no private/dating/beach scenes or other activities besides the music.

That could make the plot slower/less interesting - if it isn't pushing for music competition a lot and focusing too much on side stories about love n shit. (This is annoying in anime with hetero romance as well - if it isn't a pure romance anime and you wanted to watch something else but suddenly there is too much focus on romance.)

If I had to compare it to a music anime then it would be more similar to Your Lie in April than Carole & Tuesday or K-On in terms of vibe. Music is a way for them to express their feelings, and the angst/drama is very strong. Because the original is a manga, it would make more sense to focus a lot n the drama because, well, you can't hear music in manga form. The drama is still well-written though.

Thank you this info! I was so nervous this would fall in the Junjou Romantica tropes. The first episode was great -and I look forward to see Uenoyama and Sato grow as friends and maybe more!!

It's really sweet and does it's own thing, a good observation is that even if some things can be considered tropey they are nice tropes like love at first sight!
