Seems even before her death Naoko's life was rather unhappy despite her surface attitude. Nagi's tactics sure were heavy handed but in her fight i guess its needed. Things though sure took a drastic turn pretty quickly. Boogiepop's arrival sure was timely though. Letting Naoko's BF avenge her death was pretty poetic. Its good that Nagi managed to survive as well. Well at least they managed to stop Manticore for the time being. Close shave for Kei though.

Ok episode. Interesting conclusion.

Pacing, bland character designs and visuals make it hard to follow week by week. I feel like I will enjoy it better if I watch all at once, so I will put it on hold for now.

Dunno i think i like it for now.
characters seem pretty human to me so thats a plus, even the manticore as @Stark700 mentioned had suprisingly alot of human traits.
Kind of sad that our serial killer wannabe died in a really comical way tho.

Well...

Imo it's really not working so far - I wasn't expecting the first part to be anywhere near this short. Why did they try to condense the entire first light novel into 3 episodes? In the light novel multiple characters had their own chapters with a bunch of details and inner thoughts, but here it's so rushed.

So that explains what happened in the first episode, huh? Interesting.

Then again, what happened to Masami Saotome? Did he went AWOL?

There is really no indication he was "pulverized" (for some reason I felt I'd rather put it into brackets). Echoes transmitted himself into an information Rey. Would not he take Saotome, who happened to in the way of his ray, with him wherever he was heading? Basically Saotome is also gone and Manticore is left alone (from her point of view "taken away").

Okay so my opinion on this so far is that...the concept is super interesting and the overall mood is awesome, but I don't like the storytelling style and this first arc was pretty dull. I'm hoping that future episodes are a little more interesting and clear what's going on. Also, did that really cover the entire first novel? Holy crap, how long was it?

I think I might just put this on hold and watch it when it's finished. I want to watch more but the weekly thing is just super unsatisfying with this style of storytelling.

It felt really rushed but it’s one of those animes that has that “weirdness” to it that compeles you to keep watching.

The anime is Ok for now. Now i do LOVE when Boogiepop appears. His lines and looks are awesome. Character deseign is really really unique with him. The voice actor does a very good job too.

And the OST is perfect. It really is. Simple and engaging. It screams mistery/bizarreness.

I’m considering reading the LN.

Dang this episode was rather graphic

LOL at the people saying the fight between Manticore and Echos was "bad animation." Yeah, the frame count was basically key frames only, which were blobby with no detail. BUT UH that was one of the best choreographed fights Ive seen in the last several months.

To the people who are just beyond confused at this point: it helps if you watch all 3 of these episodes together. It seems the first arc is finished, so not a bad place to rewatch in one sitting. This series is NOT using linear storytelling by any means. It's kinda important to take note of all the minor events, including the ones that are only a 5 second cutscene. It's also important to learn basically all the characters names quickly, as characters often talk about important things and refer to other characters who are not present.

I thought Shiro was a wimp, I was really surprised by his comeback. Masami dying for manticore was actually romantic in a twisted way though. The only problem is that Kirima got to live, I don't like her even if it's only a start.

As someone who's read the novels he's one of the very few people who actually understands this series that's talked about it over the years so suck up those braindead allegations and start thinking with your own brain for this little moment (this isn't really as mean as it sounds...just acting weeb macho) ....as the rest of the internet wonders around in darkness go receive the truth and....what am I typing lol..sorry

Anyways, his video and thoughts on it are pretty legit. At least there's someone out there feeling the pain of watching such a good and influential series get trampled on by the incompetent staff at Madhouse. Kouhei Kodono deserves better . Also recommend his podcast on Boogiepop and videos on light novels. Pretty informative. Since a lot of people on forums are having a really hard time understanding what the deal with this kind of story is

They are rushing things pretty badly :/
They didn't even try to establish Kei's or Shiro's character which made everything feel super random. They also completly skipped Kimura's arc and didn't even mention him.

The episode was good in and for itself, but as an adaption this is really lacking.

Gotta agree with a previous post. That really was too fast and too straightforward of a wrap up.

I feel like this show has some real potential but man has it been rough work so far.

I also watched Digibro's video, I am not agreeing, but nevertheless, him filling out some little details of ep 1-2 made it a lot easier to understand the anime. After he pointed some things out, it became easier to see it in the anime (like for example the student council members breaking the very rules they should be enforcing, without a flinch: dating in school, or in the student council meeting they are talking about that students shouldn't use their phones in school, meanwhile the main guy is texting on his phone, etc).

I really like the show so far. I haven't read the source material and I doubt that I will, so I am not comparing it to that, rather it has just been so long since we had this kind of *intellectual* anime (where not everything is straightforward and you actually have to use your brain).

Anime and light novel are vastly different, a literal transition from light novel to anime might not work too well. Endless dialogs and internal monolouge is not be the best way to make an anime, for many people it would make it boring.
I feel like the anime is kind of made for common people, since it is more focused on action. And sure we could have a perfect adaptation from light novel to anime with every detail, but then it could cover like one book. This "rushed" way it can cover a lot more material.

So the manticore thing is done, I still have no clue what boogiepop does in the grand scheme of things.
This episode really ties things well from the previous 2 episodes.
That short fighting scene looked like crap, looked like they were flailing around while floating mid air.

The question that comes to mind now is, what's next? I really have no clue

You are probably not that experienced with animated art and such stories. The distant voice is highlighting the supernatural origin of the Boogiepop when it manifests in the girl. If you found it something unique to mention, then they have truly done their work well with distinction of a normal human and the Boogiepop.
