This Tomie girl is really a manipulative character. It's too bad sensei can't see through her pokerface and true personality.

That painting made by the sensei looked creepy as hell (although fitting for this show in a way). I found the scene when she got chocked out and later killed to be rather creepy. The second part/segment of this episode didn't feel as creepy as the first imo.

Yup, looks like 2 of them in April and May: https://myanimelist.net/anime/36992/Tomie

I think the unfortunate truth of this series is probably advertising for the manga versions of Junji Ito's works. They're intentionally leaving all the ones you've mentioned incomplete to encourage people to buy the manga and get the whole story, which is honestly a really sad and lame way to handle things. Admittedly, it does make me want to read Tomie and Pretty Boy Crossroads... but it's frustrating that this is what we get from a show based on the shorter works of the man hailed as Japan's master of horror.

The first story was okay. Tomie was quite a manipulative girl that could make anyone go as far to kill her. It's too bad she can't die. The second story wasn't too creepy. Those poor villagers though.

OH YEAH! my favorite girl now gets animated!, unlike Shouichi, Tomie introduction is straight up overwhelming, but yeah the whole Tomie manga basically just like that, Tomie finds boy -> boy goes crazy -> Tomie does sick shit -> Tomie dead - Tomie revived -> repeat. and i can see why the artstyle on previous episode is just bad, maybe the team work their ass of for this episode, because this one is actually pretty good, and this episode makes me really appreciate the character design, it suitable for horror and drama.

as for red bubble bushes, it’s fine, but they cut the end of the manga really bad, there’s more than just that, the execution is really weak, but i i dont mind because Tomie is the best, she deserved a lot more of screentime, her voice is cute too.

Junji Itou is already well known i guess, he probably doesnt need any recognition through anime medium, is just that there are some bunch of people who trying to create a fortune to out of it by adapting it, which is proven to be a very difficult one. i dunno why Studio Deen agree to animated this. hell, it even has 9 live-action adaptation for Tomie for the span 12 years, but only 1 awful anime adaptation of Gyo, props to Deen for trying to pull this off this year, not so good though.

and yeah, i encourage you to buy Tomie manga!, its basically 750 page full of wildest Tomie antics, worth every penny.

I was starting to wonder when Tomie would appear (since we can see her in the OP) and what chapter they would choose. So I think that this one was an interesting choice that caught perfectly Tomie's personality, her obssesion of preserving her beauty for eternity and how every man that "falls in love" with her will end up insane and wanting to kill her in a horrific manner.

The other story was good but obviously they couldn't completely fit it all in the episode, therefore they missed the part that made me cringe and felt sorry for the man who was buried in that place:

The second story is really a bad choice...
The original manga of it wasn't that good to begin with.
And they cut out many little parts of it here and there so it can fit with the Tomie story in a 22 mins slot...

Well, at least the Tomie one was not bad, it seems they really gave it all on that one, still not without problems unfortunately... wish there were more though.

And speaking of Oshikiris. I'd like to see the story with the painter girl.
As to the Pretty Boy, I don't know, not really a fan of any of the follow up, I like were the first one ended.

Episode 9 for me has been one of the best so far, certainly better than last week. The animation seems to have improved a little as well. Which I’m glad for considering this episode finally introduced Tomie, and I’m assuming that’s why it looks better this week.

As soon as I saw the first frame of story #1, I knew it was going to be The Painter! I was pretty excited. Very enjoyable to see Tomie in anime form and I think they did pretty well for that story. Ya know, as well as they could have for a 22 minute episode. The dismemberment scene was wicked gross and exactly what I was hoping to see for her first story, and I think The Painter was a good choice for her debut.

The second story has always been pretty gross but also pretty weak. I went from excited and enjoying the episode to a little bored. But I had to turn off the volume at the very end because of those sounds.... I can’t listen to sounds like that at all man.

Woah they actually went for Tomie's 'The Painter'. She's not that gross here imo. Decent adaptation of the second one although that reddish color on the 'parasite' wasn't the best choice.

After those last two weak episodes it wasn't that hard to improve...

This one was a lot better compared to episode 8 luckily, some of the animation was still awkward and weird but it wasn't too bad. Tomie part of the story was pretty weak compared to the manga though :( But still enjoyed it nonetheless.

though frankly most animes are indeed meant to be advertising the source materials, it didn't start with Ito Junji: Collection , as even Tokyo Ghoul anime wasn't as good as the manga

for this epo: Tomie made it now? I expected them to save a story for her for the final Epo, matter of fact she needs more than one.

Well now we know where the animation from the previous episode went; straight into Tomie's story! Solid adaptation of The Painter too IMO. Whoever directed this segment deserves a gold star.

Blood Bubbble was a pretty good too, but like others have said I'm not too sure how I feel about them cutting the story short. Still it was effective at conveying the key story beats and I think it's an intersting take on vampirism in any case.

Might be my favourite episode so far. 5/5

yes, she will have clones, but the clones itself hates each other. the main reason why there’s so much chapter of Tomie (20 chapter) is probably because Tomie is spreading like wildfire mess things everywhere. she isn’t immortal, her body is just capable to duplicate themselves, her internal organ, finger, blood, even her hair. and she still retain her memories. the reason why she wants to preserve her beauty is:

- she cant be photographed, when someone photos her, it ends up scary as hell, this episode is the example, and also chapter 2 of the manga.
- whenever a male attracted by her beauty, he will have a tendencies to kill her, that’s why her face cant stay beauty for too long, someone will ends up kill her eventually, and the way people killing her is just so bad, this episode is the example.
- she’s a golddigger and manipulative, ofcourse she wants her beauty to be preserved, it’s her asset, but then again, her lifespan is too short whenever she become a golddigger, she get killed again.
- she’s actually aging, but no one ever sees it because she always die young, until the last chapter of Tomie.

I totally agree. It would be a shame if that were the case. I liked the aesthetic of the animation so it would've been nice to see those stories fully animated, although I don't have a problem with going to the manga

Tomie manga only has 20 chapter, it’s already finished 18 years ago, in 2000. unfortunately there’s no sequel to this masterpiece, wish we can have more though.

The Tomie chapters were mostly written at different times. The first story seems to have been one of his earliest creations. Those interested can either hunt down individual stories on-line, or just get the Tomie collection from Amazon in either Kindle or paper form.

The Painter story has been my favorite, so it was great seeing it here, though a slower introduction of the character concept using one of the earlier stories may have been engaging. I always thought it was fun how Tomie hates being reminded of her monster side, as in her reaction to the second portrait here, even though she is evidently well aware of it.

This was an interesting choice though, as it's one of the episodes that emphasizes Tomie's school girl aspect a bit less than the others, which is surprising when school based stories are all the rage in anime lately. It's a welcome change of pace though.

I also noticed that she seems a little more adultish looking in general here, with sharp features and sort of a more obvious femme fatale vibe and all, than she is pictured with in the old mangas. Of course, Tomie's precise age is kind of unimportant, given her true nature. She can probably pass for whatever is convenient depending on the occasion.

Tomie's peculiar biology of sorts is stuck to very carefully in the original stories, which is part of what makes them interesting as you learn more about how it works.

Beyond that, of course, you don't have to be a psychologist to see how the trope of a manipulative female and the frustration of dealing with someone you desire yet who plays with you intersects with all kinds of gender issues and societal stuff that we debate to this day. Tomie brings to the fore aspects of desire that many would perhaps rather not think too much about.

Hell yeah TOMIE!!!!!!! Painter was fantastic 1000000 Tomie clones/10 Tomie clones I love it the second story can screw off manga did it better (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) omg TOMIE SLAY AHHHHH YASSSS.

But seriously, Tomie story was great. I now see where the budget went, rip lip syncing. I love that the paintings were a lot in the style of the manga, very beautiful. Idk how can you describe beauty? One word, Tomie. I'm excited for the OVAs. I hope hair makes it in. I hope a lot of things go in. But sometimes hope doesn't happen.

The second story I honestly forgot what's it called. It was more disturbing in the manga(((cuz the manga is better duh))) but the story was saved by the girls sucking noise at the end. Also the dudes red eyes, nice.... I'm excited for next weeks episode.

Finally the circle is complete... (If you based it on the promotion poster and the opening hehe)

When Tomie came to view in this episode, it game me the chills. One of the most manipulative egoistic female characters ever to be. Although 'Painter' is not my choice for her debut (yehey for her debut!) it showed what the character really is. Good one, and also the animation! Better than the last one huhu

The second story is well still good. At least the ending gives me dread haha..ha

Tomie's voice reminds me of the main girl in that gambling anime.

As for Tomie, since she regrows from her blood cells, wouldn't we be able to kill her by burning her to ash? I doubt she'd able to grow from ash particles.

And the end of that second story, after the girl drank her own blood, she'll become a vampire and want blood, so we can assume that she'll kill the guy. But if the guy also drink his own blood and become a vampire, then he'll be safe cuz vampires don't attack each other, as shown from the vampire boys. They don't attack each other, but instead group together to attack others.
