Groove said: Finished Monster, Inspector Runge is my hero. He takes shit from no one.
Wife: I'm leaving to live with my lover..
Runge: I need to go to work, I'll hear that rest of that later.
Wife: OWN3D.
DazarGaiding said: Runge got some serious mental issues lol He is a very interesting character though, it is a unique perspective thrown into the plotline i think.
When he 'becomes' japanese its pretty funny.
Groove said: What mental issues? He's like the best character in the show, every episode with him in it, is an instant win.
If Alucard, EVA's and Chuck Norris would meet him at a bar, they'd shit themselves senseless.
Besides, he's immune to Death Note.
Another Runge quote:
Runge: I'm Japanese, I'm Japanese.
*Phone rings*
Daughter: Father... I know we had some problems, but I want you to meet your grandson. Will you meet him?
Runge: Yes, domo.
Daughter: WTF O.O
Another Runge quote:
Roberto: This all part of the plan, you will die here, it is also part of the plan.
Runge: This plan, is unacceptable by the computer in my head.
*Runge owns Roberto badly*
DazarGaidin said: Hey i like Runge don't get me wrong :P But he just couldn't compute that he might be wrong (well mostly). I liked the conversation he had with that awesome psychiatrist dude, his eyes went to his hand like a bloodhound lol .
Hisoka said: Actually, I'm just happy to see another Runge fan is all. Johan is my favorite though. =)
Groove said: Yes, because he never was before.
I'm 99% sure that his success rate (of opening cases I mean) is almost perfect.

It's funny though, I think from all the characters, I liked Tenma the least. He's too... "plain". Runge, Johan, Eva, Grimmer, they all had certain charm in them that Tenma lacked..
I might get eaten now, but that's how I feel..
DazarGaidin said: Yeah i think that is when Runge
started to really believe Johan was real and something completely out of the ordinary. He doesn't miss anything and to have nothing to find ... but yeah his response was cool as ever :P
DazarGaidin said: Tenma did have a certain something about him, it was just something that didn't appeal as much to you.
All of those characters you mentioned had something messed up about them that they needed to overcome (that can be related to by most people in real life i think). Tenma thing is that he is extremely moral and uplifting, despite the world and what is happening, and is able to bring out the best in those people you mentioned and just about everyone else around him. He is the belldandy of Monster lol (well the same character concept as her anyway). The only thing he had to overcome was his self loathing for saving johan and saying those things to him while he was unconscious, and the need to stop him.
Maybe we should start a monster thread :P
Hisoka said: Tenma is a cool guy, but there is a long list of characters that are more interesting than him. But that's just a credit to how great Monster is and how the show can go without someone as important to the story as he is.
Groove said: Yeah, I really liked that in some episodes he wasn't even present. The 2-3 episodes about
Martin, and how he died protecting Eva. Those episodes were really cool, because they not only added a new great character but also the narration of the story changed a bit. I refer to how he was talking to himself like in old-school detective movies. That was really refreshing.
Also, he himself as a character, wasn't forced. Even though he had only 2 or 3 episodes, I really felt for him. I understood his motives, his actions, his feelings even. Not a lot of shows can make you feel that way about a character in a few episodes.
I also enjoyed how the show made you change your opinion about certain characters. In the beginning of the show, I thought about Eva "What a bitch", but later on, I truly felt sorry for her, and somewhere deep down there, I maybe even wanted Tenma to take her back.
DazarGaidin said: I felt he exact same way about Eva :)

I kinda want to ask when nina comes back but in doing so I'll probably wreck a good surprise... so don't answer!

I've only seen this post this morning.
The thing about Tenma for me, is that he's just too plain. You know, he's your typical hero character. He can't kill anyone, and when he thinks that he did, he's whining about it; "I'm not a doctor anymore, I killed a guy". When Runge needs to waste someone he doesn't bitch around. If you know what I mean.
Even in the end, he doesn't get a prestige job, marry Nina and make a family or something. No, he's going all around the world treating people like a God damn martyr. I think it's stupid, and I hate it.
Martin's story was great and somehow, I ended up feeling bad for Eva there...even tho she was such a bitch. Altho i kinda wanted tenma to take her back, that would get in the way of my tenma x nina dreams so... :P I still like tenma, we need more people like him in the world :D

She wasn't bitch to Martin. Or do you mean her overall behavior?
Look, there is a lot to say about Eva, she's one of the most interesting characters in the show.
Her life truly is miserable, I'm not saying even for a second that it's not her fault, because it is, but I can't help but to feel sorry for her.
She made one bad decision and it's breaking up with Tenma. You know what they say, you don't know what you have until you lose it. That's exactly her case.
She lost the only thing that was good in her life, and that is Tenma. After he refused to take her back at that coffee shop it was devastating for her. She was alone, she obviously wasn't used to it, since her father was always around (it's obvious that she has always been "daddies daughter").
Basically, for the rest of the show she tries to numb the pain, the pain of breaking up with Tenma, the pain of Tenma not taking her back, the loneliness that she feels, the attitude that all the people around her are giving her.
She wasn't "Director's daughter" anymore. No body given her any respect, moreover they looked down on her. Again, I'm not saying that she didn't deserve it, but still it was very cruel. It was too much for her. She tried to find escape in drinks and other men, but none of them truly loved her. She knew it, after all, she wasn't stupid. She broke marriages almost out of rage, rage and sadness. I can even say that she hated happiness. That one time, when she believed that gardener, that he loved her, she went to his place for Christmas and saw him with his wife, it finally snapped her. All the people around were happy, everyone but her. That was the last drop. She just couldn't stand it anymore. It's almost is that she hated that house that she burned, it reminded her of her father that died and left her alone, of her former position in society that was taken from her, of all the lovers she had there, of the gardener. She wanted it all gone, thus she burned it.
Eva is a very tragic character. I truly wanted her to be with Tenma, and I believe that she suits him more then Nina. So what if she broke up with Tenma first? She was young and stupid. So what is she was a bitch earlier? She tasted more sorrow in life that many of us ever will. So what if she fucked half of Germany, or was an alcoholic? People change. I am by nature, very vengeful, I hold grudges and remember everything ever done to me, and always get my revenge, and even I, truly believe that Eva has done her retribution and deserves her forgiveness.
^ I don't disagree with any of that other than the part about nina :P
Although i think she has more than paid her dues, i just don't think she is right for tenma anyway. I think she did realize what a great guy _he_ was and that she woulda been happy with him, but i think someone more pure at heart would suit tenma. I think nina, while pretty much twin to evil incarnate, had the same something that tenma does inside...whatever you might call it. Innocence, goodness, moral fortitude, whatever. I think eva is a good person too, but its different. But hey, if tenma did love her and want to be with her i don't think i'd be completely dissatisfied..cause i think i'd like to see Eva happy in the end :D (actually i liked her and the mafia dude the best..poor bastard :P)
