It was directed by Tomino, the creator of Gundam. Anything not directed by Tomino is a fake Gundam series. Real Gundam series aren't just the Tomino directed ones. What OP means is a series like 00 that is heavy, substantial in scope. Not build fighters, not AGE, not Recon. Involving MCs that aren't infants, both mentally and physically. Stories that can only be told in the context of the gundam universe where the iconic gundam form gives rise to the essentials of the plot. THAT is a real gundam series and it's been almost a decade since 00 graced our screens. Speak for yourself, Gundam 00 was all flair and no depth. It's like Gundam Wing all over again, bland emotionless character tropes, cliche plot, paired with gorgeous visuals. I like both series regardless and I'm not here to bash, but at least show some gratitude and deserved respect to THE creator of the original Gundam itself. The origins of this franchise was a genuine exploration of science fiction, storytelling, and psychology. Recon is very similar in that regard. Characters aren't meant to sate the audience's deluded ideals of "ooh, this is a likeable character", they're meant to portray their "character" regardless of how a character is personally offensive to you. |

| You should count the OVAs as short series. Nobody wants to broadcast a 50 or so episode show when they could easily just make a shorter one more tamer for kids. |

| I know there are different types of Gundam and mecha fans. I myself started with Gundam Wing which was "okay". I loved Gundam Seed. Seed Destiny was crap. Gundam 00 was pretty good. Not as good as Seed. I also like other non-gundam mecha from Sunrise (Valvrave, Buddy Complex) and I sometimes like them more than gundam. What I like: Politics and different nations fighting (instead of focussing only on stuff like superhumans like that "innovators") and the action. Good story is importand. I know there are others that mainly like the action and don't care about plot. And people that watched every Gundam including the very old and first Gundams from the franchise. They probably like Gundam G no Reconguista But I hated it. So much better stuff if you want some interesting plot. This is as crappy as Captain Earth. But now ... the new series: Tekketsu no Orphans ... it feels much better. Still not as good as 00 and I don't understand the whole political system and it is more focused on the characters. But imo it is doing well. I know people are afraid it might get worse because if Mari Okada. And I was afraid too. But up to now I still like it. |

Gundam 00, even with the many faults of season 2 was still leagues better than Reconguista. I wanted to like Rec, I really really did; I thought it would be the spiritual successor to one of my old time favorites Turn A. Sadly it was garbage, about the only memorable thing I got out of Rec are the scenes where they show pilots using toilets inside their mobile suits. Got a good laugh out of that. |
