The Supernatural Studies Club looks interesting. It is nice that they aren't
pushing the Ecchi element too far. I had thought that the 3-Second Rule also
applied to tempura shrimp. The quality of the animation seemed just a bit
half-hearted. On the other hand, I am not complaining since this is about
normal for an OVA which comes bundled with a manga volume. I am looking
forward to Volume 2 of the OVA as well as the TV series in April. Let's hope
for fast subs.

Epic fail!

@EasyGo-er: Thank you. That provides a great explanation for why I don't
remember watching the TV series last year! I had looked on the Wikipedia
page, and it said that there was an eight-episode live-action TV drama in
2013, from August to September. So that is what fooled me.

Here is a very short clip from the final episode:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmbbkBCRcIo

The whole thing is up on YouTube, in fact.

I just hope LIDENFILMS won't mess this up like they did with Terra Formars.

I see, so this is exactly the same pattern where they started off with two manga-
bundled OVAs and then follow up with the actual TV series. In my case, I started
by reading ahead in the Terra Formars manga for a few chapters, which I thought
was good. But it was extremely gory, to the point that I didn't understand how
it could ever be adapted into something for broadcast TV. When I watched the
first OVA, I thought it was kind of odd, and not the best introduction for somebody
who didn't know the story. And then the TV anime series seemed kind of uneven
when it finally started. So the result of the adaptation didn't seem to work out
very well. Besides that, there was so much censoring that it was a major irritant.
I would recommend anybody to enjoy the manga as the best way to know the
story. Then watch the anime series if you really want to see it animated.

For much better cockroach animation, I recommend the 2012 ONA "Cockroach
Girl".

Ha, that nose bleed. This was pretty much what I had thought although the beginning felt a lot more silly than I had expected. They gave us a glimpse of the witches but I wouldn't expect them to be introduced properly until the main TV series.

Also not very used to Yamada's voice yet (in his real form)

Had to watch to see how the voices were (couldn't wait, it's one of my favorite manga x) ), Saori Hayami doing a great job as always <3
The rest of the cast was good, Itou's voice really fits her, it's how I imagined.
The art isn't extraordinary but I think that it suits very well.

As for the actual episode, I'm still learning Japanese so I couldn't catch everything, I'll wait for the subs.
But I gave some good laughs, it was the best bath/hot spring, ova ever.

That akward moment tho.
Poor Ushio.
-----
Watching it with subs now I realized that the scene with the human puppet made a reference to the Konami code x)

OP with showing every character(?) while running, What's the song title? I don't think it is listed on the ep.

School festival, huh. Staying over at a club house to practice, interesting. Wow at those tricks with yaoi kiss and being burnt by cup noodles. Exchanging bodies, too?

Copying 7 witches, so they need 3 more members. Too many impossible requests from twintail girl. And it's hard to find rest of members, but were able to get them. The main guy's determination is wow.

Yui-chan's character is really shy.

Tsubasalover asked:
What's the song title?

In the closing credits, they mention two pieces of music:

The image song: / imeeji songu / イメージソング
Titled: 「ding!ging!dong!」
Sung by: Erushi / 歌: エルシ
Lyrics by: Yashisan / 作詞: やしさん
Melody by: Taiki Takafuji / 作曲: 高藤大樹
Arranged by: Yashisan / 編曲: やしさん

And then just below that they mention the ending theme: / エンディグテーマ
Titled: "Odoruupu" / 「オドループ」
Sung by: Furederikku / フレデリック

Normally, every anime series has an "opening theme" which is played during the
OP. I have also heard of "insert songs". And of course, they often sell CDs with
"character songs". But I have never heard of an "image song". However, it turns
out that "imeeji songu" is standard terminology for any kind of music which is
used within a commercial product. This is explained on this Japanese-language
Wikipedia page:
http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%A4%E3%83%A1%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B8%E3%82%BD%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B0

There is a reason why the song "ding!ging!dong!" is an "image song", but cannot
properly be called the "opening theme". That is because, in an anime, the
"opening theme" is always played while the opening credits are being shown.
Together, this is what we call the "OP". However, for this OVA, they started to
play that song while the story action was still taking place, and before the "OP"
had actually begun. So it was not quite an "opening theme" and not quite an
"insert song". So that explains it.

I can hear them sing "ding!ging!dong!" several times during the song that is
being played during the opening credits. So that is definitely the one.

I loved this OVA; I laughed so much throughout my time watching it. Man, it was great to see basically all the main witches make cameos. Tamaki dancing in the back to get Miyamura and Yamada's attention and being completely ignored was hilarious! xD Also the whole time I was thinking 'did they forget Tsubaki?' but as soon as I saw Yamada drop the tempura I laughed so hard. Yamada in Shiraishi's body taking a bath in the hot springs and failed to see any of the girls naked was gold. Overall, this was a great OVA. Definitely can't wait for the anime. :D

Liked it a lot! I read the manga, but the stuff in the OVA was such a long time ago, so I kinda forgot a lot except for the last bit with the lottery :)

Or was it original? The timeline with the witches were a bit off, so it might be, but I do remember Yamada screwing up at the lottery in the manga at one point or another, and I don't wanna check right now XP

Shaniyaz asked:
How does most (if not all) main leads already know about the body switch
thing via kiss? A prior explanation wasn't given either. I'm assuming they'll
be covering it in the TV series?

The targets of this OVA are people who are already faithful readers of the manga.
After all, this came out as a DVD bundled with Volume 15 of the manga. So that is
why they don't explain anything or introduce anybody. If you have been reading
the manga since 2012, I guess it's great to see Yamada and Shiraishi come to life
in animated form.

Besides, many people in Japan would have watched the live-action TV series last
year. It had eight 45-minute episodes.

The manga is really good and tons of it has already been translated into English.

The live-action TV series also does a good job of telling the story, but in a slightly
different way. I think it is even better than the manga. The great thing about live
action is that it is possible for the characters to portray the subtle differences in
the posture and movements of a girl versus a boy. It is great to watch Yamada
walking around in Shiraishi's body.

The best part of any OVA is the fanservice that they can't show on TV. Yamada certainly enjoyed the hot springs:

The manga made me laugh so much but I can see why some of, if not all, that appeal is lost when they just throw you into it like that without rhyme or reason as to why everyone is doing what they doing.
At least Miyamura is still a big fucking idiot ahaha.
Tamaki dancing in the hallway though...

animehm said:

It's kind of weird though that they are releasing OVAs before the series, i'm used to the usual (?) formula of TV---> then OVA or specials. Like it was mentioned with Terra Formars getting the same treatment.

Glad they kept the Miyamura/ Yamada jokes and the kiss, its the best pairing.

Nice ED, too.

Reminds me of Kanojo Flag's preair episode. Where it didn't focus on explaining things yet.

But anyway hope to find out why they switch bodies for kissing. Not only Yamada and Shiroshi but the other two can do it too.

Things I hope to find out when the TV series airs:

Why did he decide to join the SSC?
Body switching
Why the SSC is so important to him ( Maybe because of Shiroshi? )
SSC members past and such.
Get to know more of the other girls that appeared.
Wondered how he knew about the body switching ( Guess it's not a secret)

Odagiri looks good but she kinda looked like a bitch. I hope the anime when it airs focuses on her good points too.

I'm not a Shiraishi fan but she was soo cuute in this OVA. :3

Loved the interactions of Yamada with club members and his schoolmates. ^^

Noa was quite cute too.

LIDENFILMS did a good job in the OVA, lets hope the TV series is great too. I have high expectations for this. ^^

^This.
I am not sure I like Yamada's and Miyamura's voice. And for some reason I didn't get that likeable vibe off Yamada like I do in manga. Although that might be because subs were overusing swearing with Yamada. I know he swears, but this was more than needed. (And they forced it when in japanese there wasn't really even a hint of it )
Also, I don't really like how they changed Itou's hair color. :/
Oh, and didn't guys have thicker eyebrows in manga ? :D

I remember back in Fall 2012 Commie subbed Girls und Panzer. They decided to
use many German words for some reason. In the original Japanese, there were just
a few German words related to tanks and tank tactics. Some of what Commie added
were slang expressions,so non-German-speakers couldn't just try to use a dictionary.
Even so, the viewers of Girls und Panzer who knew German said that the subs were
hilarious. I think that it is a great idea if a sub group can actually make the English
in the subtitles even better than the original Japanese dialog. On the other hand...
