THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Thankfully they started this episode with a rough explaination of what the heck Geduld is so I'm slightly less confused. Now the big question is who in the world is that girl in pink that randomly appears around the ship.

Kouji's pessimism while they were trying to escape was annoying. If Ikumi wasn't there they would've died. There's still plenty of time for his character to improve so I'll wait to see how he'll shape up as the series progresses. His brother is another annoying one that looks to have an extremely high amount of pent up anger.

I like how the story is shaping up so far. They're still far from being in the clear so it'll be interesting to see what happens next.

His pessimism wasn't really that annoying, I'd say he was probably the more realistic one seeing as they only made it by pure chance.

Yeah, Kouji is alright. Yuki, however, is the one I dislike. "Idiot Brother" seems to be his favorite phrase.

When I was recommended this show I was told "be prepared for a lot of angsty characters". They were not kidding. And Yuki seems the worst of the bunch so far.

I actually don't mind Kouji's character, despite how flat it is . . . However Aoi is kind of . . . Annoying. And Yuuji is kind of . . . Annoying. =/ . . . Well I guess it is way too early to be hating or liking any character.

I'm fine with all the characters so far, excluding Yuki for the moment.
And I hope the Alien girl will stop coming out of no where soon.

And from the preview, it seems like a triangle love will start soon, I hope they will play it right since it's one of the things that I can't satisfied easily.

This episode clears some of the questions regarding Geduld and what the attackers are looking for in Liebe Delta (the Bratica). Ryvius is basically a show about the characters. The two characters I really disliked for a major part of the show were Yuki (because he seemed to be alarmingly angsty out of the bunch) and Faina. Faina's an interesting case, cause she's literally made to be hated by the viewer. One of the more unique characters I've seen in anime.

Well, pretty much all the adults die in this episode, so its basically now a Lord of the Files in space situation.

Also, a subtle bit of foreshadowing on Ikumi's past (bemoaning about the fact that he failed to save someone 'yet again').

Koujo is a little pessimistic, but he's not a bad guy. His brother Yuki is a bonafide dick like you said.

And we got the world building explanation I was looking for, now I'm really ready to go with this show.

I love how this show takes the time to develop at a relatively slow pace and how we get to know the characters gradually. Yuuki seems a bit a cardboard character but that could change.

It's too soon to say, but this could be an undervalued hidden gem. So far, I like it enormously.

God damn it, both brothers have such shitty attitudes; I can barely deal with it—not that that makes them poorly written characters (can't really judge that much yet), but it certainly is annoying. Also, I really dislike how they don't really elaborate on the Geduld phenomenon or any of the other frequently used jargon (aside from that brief clip at the beginning of the episode—Geduld just seems like a cheap plot device so far, but whatever). Overall, these first two episodes have been pretty weak (as far as keeping me engaged is concerned); it especially doesn't help that the OST and sound design are struggling to build an appropriate atmosphere for the events going down. I think I understand what they're going for, though I'm having trouble putting it into words right now; it just isn't working for me.

I have no issues with the art or character designs; that's not something I really ever hold against 1980s-early 2000's anime. As far as the animation is concerned, it ranges from fine to pretty good, except for these two horrible, incredibly jittery looking panning shots. Like, those shots were so god awful that I was a wondering if my video was encoded improperly or if maybe my playback had dropped frames or something, so I decided to double check (since there's no good reason why these super simple panning shots should look so atrocious).

First I checked my playback info on MPV, which reported no dropped frames, and second, I checked several other video encodes, all of which had the same jittery playback on those specific shots. wtf, I know it's a petty thing to get annoyed with, but it's just so inconsistent with the rest of the animation that it beyond pisses me off.

For reference, jittery-ass shit from episode 1:

A high gravity, high temperature plasma field surrounding the solar system and yet it somehow doesn't affect Earth's ability to sustain life. Granted I don't know the exact science behind it but from a layman's point of view, wouldn't a plasma field or Geduld essentially strip away Earth's atmosphere ?

Also, that girl with the weird clothes is very annoying. I swear to God, if she brings some kind of supernatural shenanigans to this relatively grounded sci-fi show, I'm gonna lose my shit.

All the planets are connected. The whole ship is connected. Waiting. The most vulnerable in the most dangerous place. It’s sinking into the sea. Looks like a relative of boogiepop is also here on the ship. The adults are sacrificing to save the children. He wishes death upon his brother. They’re dropping sections. Justintie. This is very good so far. 5
