The concept behind the show is really interesting so it's sad to see these generic and boring characters.. Highschool Girls... They could have been anything but you decided to go with lame highschool girls because it sells. :/

How the hell did she save the child? In one scene the child was holding to the woman's neck, just after that the child was lying there. They just skipped it.

Btw I see some said Ibara breaking down is ridiculous. Be patient people, it is obvious they will show us the reason while they do the character development through the girls' past. It will probably turn out Ibara is one of those cliché characters who strive to look strong but have immense amount of doubts about their beliefs inside. This is not that hard to see and I think it is kinda obvious that they will stick with it.

As for that choosing one life over another, Ibara was portrayed as the strong type of girl, without her background information, that crying scene was totally out of place and out of character, we can't sympathize with her. And, crying? Really? Choosing one life over another, those that you have yet to know for even one day? Hmm..? Sentimental much?

You've seen 350 anime, don't tell me you cannot oversee this coming or at least cannot realize that they are just stretching out for further character development.

I find this episode...melodramatic than usual...and I thought genetically engineered humans growing up in controlled environments don't cry that easily.

Exactly what i was about to say here too lol...
rather disapoiting when it goes too much melodramatic, the main character failed here greatly.
Lets see how it goes but got few hopes.

Eh, I'm not as confident about this series as I was last episode. Really felt all over the place and the condensed drama just came off as too sudden.

I think it has more to do with what Ibara mentioned earlier. She said it herself - she was born and raised for the very purpose of the rescue missions. She doesn't know any other life or reason to live other than to save the people within the ruined city. She's come off as very duty bound and even though she takes her missions seriously, Ibara values human life even above completing the missions, which basically means she values the lives of others over her own.

Despite only knowing those people for a day, she didn't want to choose because even letting one of them die would make her feel as though she failed the mission, thus failing to fulfill the reason she's alive.

Lul Hikari's character was fine with me, Hikari from Nagi no Asukara, how come I am not fine with Ibara. I foreseen Hikari's development, Ibara's too, but we all agree that it came out of no where, especially with how Ibara's character was shown to be.

I do understand that she values lives over her missions, but her crying? She wasn't born to be used like that. She's still a HUMAN. IIRC she was born before this whole catastrophe actually happened. If you mean that the reason she was genetically modified was to rescue people, yeah, but I doubt that she feels so strong about it that she had to cry. I seriously doubt that she is living for the sole purpose of fulfilling her missions, given that if she wasn't raised that way.

I hope they lose those mega dark stroke lines around characters. Kinda separating them from the beautiful backgrounds too roughly.. My enjoyment drops cause of it D:

The accident happened in 2016, and this takes place 20 years later in 2036. Ibara is 18 so she was born after the accident.

The starting already doesnt make any sense during the first episode, anyway I continued watch it. In this episode, I just completely does not understand how did she save the child, and suddenly teleporting to Ibara's side (or am I missed something) and the child's dad could be saved rather than lying beside his wife's grave. Anyway the scenary was awesome though. Let's hope the next episode is better.

Episode kind of lame, the pattern this show is taking is really bad, always crying for nothing and never able to do anything it honestly sucks and that heavy black is annoying. Hope it gets better.

The artstyle of this anime is mind-blowing good!
And I also love the plot of episode 01, but this one... the story is so over the top and filed with plot holes, it just hurts my brain. I don't even want to get started counting them.
Please Coppelion, don't continue this kind of drama :(

Am I the only one who thinks that the pacing is a bit erratic? I'm used to drama in anime. I'm cool with it. But in this ep it seems a bit forced and excessive.

But I'm starting to like the animation/art especially the background sceneries. Also interesting to know about the story of Copellia.

Take a shot every time someone cries.

At least they got a cool wolf following them around now. That's badass.

They are beating us over the head with the doll idea.

I've seen a bunch of anime where genetically enhanced soldiers or robots or assassins or whatever wonder if they're still human or not (Canaan, Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom, Violet Evergarden, Noir, El Cazador del la Bruja, saw part of Gunslinger Girl, this probably happened in Madlax and Steel Angel Kurumi, etc) and this one is scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I didn't like how things turned out, the parents died just because they wanted to die, well the father at least died while looking for his daughter, but the step-mother just missed-up, this did trigger some emotions for Ibara, but it could've been done with at least one parent's death not both of them, other than that it was good,
I liked that the wolf (or dog ) is now their companion, we know Taeko is great with animals so I wonder what's the other two's hidden abilities ?
