Plus the idea that one or more of them has been stalking the crew of the Gargantia all this time is.. creepy to say the least.

THEY SWAM IN THERE.

Amy was just so attractive this episode. Ledo should just get it on with her, but I doubt he even knows what love is, and this series doesn't seem to have much romance in it.

Also, was that a squid at the end, or really a Hidiaze??
Most people seem to think it snuck through the loophole with Ledo.

Chamber is officially one of the best MC in this season, only behind SnK cast.

Bely shots and butt shots aside, it was an Okay episode.

Another relaxing episode with some dancing, huehuehue. Dat private one towards the end of the episode.

Looks like Ledo is trying to get some more work, hopefully this "Salvaging" is exactly what he is looking for. Though this Hidiaze just appeared, or what I think it is what the people on Gargantia is calling a "whale-squid(?)". Well seeing Chamber confirming it being a Hidiaze, I think we have a some action coming next episode!

Things I've learned from watching Suisei no Gargantia:

1. Unless you slap people in the face with it, they just will not recognize character development. Subtlety is well and truly dead, if it ever lived at all.

2. Give a dog a bone and he'll bite your hand. Give him two and he'll bite you twice.

3. People somehow have come to think that "Sci-Fi=TONS OF ACTION!!!!!!!!!" when it actually doesn't, at all. I would blame Star Wars, but that was always meant to be more fantasy than Sci-Fi. News flash: Classic Sci-Fi is/was rarely action packed: Original Star Trek anyone? Sci-Fi was always more about characters and character stories than action.

4. The only appropriate development/dialogue must be done during intense space/water battles with every female character in a burqa. Actually, why do they even have females? Females just take time away from the space battles, which we all know are the real story here.

5. My first impression, based on lazy watching, must always be proven correct or the author/creator/director is wrong and is stupid and fuck this stupid talky-talk show. If I wanted talking and character development and subtlety I would go watch You Got Mail or some girly shit like that. I want Rambo in a mecha-suit with a laser-chainsaw gun that fires nuclear warheads, fighting the love-child of Predator, Alien, a group of Bangladeshi terrorists, and Satan. (Actually that would be a pretty sick show)

finally the plot start MOVING AGAIN! in the last 3 minutes -____-

finally i found a glimpse of answer. The red tanktop girl says giant white squid. The Chamber analysis says that over 99% it matches hideauz.

1. What is hideauz
2. Why the original Ledo are sad

potential answer
1. A monster created by human to make human focus on one thing. This make unifying human easier.
2. Because the original Ledo know the tragic nature of their reality.

Uhm regarding the Hideauze, I wonder how it got there. Maybe one went through when Ledo got sucked in by the Loop-hole or they were once originated from Earth. So many theories could come from this.

It looked similar to the one that attached to Chamber during the space battle in the first episode(minus the snail shell), but I'm not sure. Didn't it end up getting destroyed by one of the federation pew pew lasers?

Yeah it did get destroyed, but I mean others could have went through the loop without showing us.

That's a definite possibility. Either way it would make for a nice plot twist/interesting ending if Ledo was somehow indirectly responsible for a Hideauze invasion. I don't see why they would of been in hiding all this time if they were already on earth.

There's something fishy here. It would make more sense if Ledo was pulled into the past through the hole, then discovered the origin of these Alien-fish-like thing. But my theory got destroyed when heard from Amy's little brother that there was a legend about people escaped the earth and lived in space. So to the point, Ledo current time is - perhaps - the present.

Perhaps it got sucked along with Ledo into the hole, but it doesn't make much sense if there's only 1 being of Hideauze. I guess 99.7% means that squid is the origin, and it hasn't developed like the Hideauze( wasnt able to confirm its flying ability). So my assumption is that Ledo will find out about the origins, and their nest.

I was thinking of that as well, but then I would think a whale squid actually looks something like a hybrid between a whale and a squid? Then again, "whale" could just mean that the squid is huge in size...? It would be kind of anti-climatic is it really is just a whale squid though.

xD I think that this got lost in the huge debate over the fanservice... Honestly, I think that it suits the situation from Ledo's POV.

leloar said:
So, here's my theory on the Hedeauze:

1. A certain percentage of humanity left for space
2. Hedeauze was either a man-made creature or a living organism native to Earth who'd evolved enough to rival humanity
3. The small percentage of humans who stayed behind didn't see the Hedeauze as a threat and instead opted to coexist with/leave them alone. The Hedeauze was gradually forgotten as an "enemy"
4. The humans who went to space probably erased Earth from the map as being eradicated, as a cover-up?
5. Space human organization (too lazy to look up the official name) distorted the truth and took monopoly over the human race

Completely agree with you.

(1 and 5) I think is partially the result of Attack on Titan fans (from the previous day) seeing the first episode, Urobuchi, and concluding that it'd be a grimdark gorefest.

(Side point to 1: Ep5 had Pinion throwing Ledo a BBQ to feel better, from wanting to drown him and steal his mech - it's not even subtle - apparently people are only hearing/reading what they want to hear.)

(3) Probably the two most recognizable "sci-fi" movies to most people are Star Wars and Cameron's Avatar. Despite both having spaceships, the former is pulp/space opera/space fantasy, and the latter is full-on enviro-fantasy - science is evil - the clearest opposite to science fiction there is. Even the movie of "I, Robot", which could have been the (epic) film analog of Bakemonogatari episode 12, was turned into pretty scenes of future Chicago, filled with killbots.

(4) I'm just gonna be lazy and point out Attack on Titan fans "frothing at the mouth" reaction to Mikasa having lips. Apparently, the number being He-man woman haters terrified of any female body and instead in love with violence, means Hollywood has a secure audience for mindless carnage.

To be fair to the people who are complaining, the first four episodes were better. I understand that the last two episodes have been an effort to frame Ledo's gradual integration into society and his subsequent realization that tits and ass are amazing there are a myriad of joys and experiences to be found aside from the monotony of military service.

The problem is, they weren't executed half so well as say, the first episode, in which you're able to infer [through natural dialogue] that: he lives in a militaristic Darwinist society where proper citizenship and the right to reproduction are only earned through martial service and that he'd spent his entire life in either his robot or other vat-like areas being cultivated into a competent warrior so that he can pass on his genes and produce a child who will likewise live the same cyclical lifestyle in order to preserve the human race [as encounters with the Hideaze have an incredibly high mortality rate]; and all that you learn in the first 4 minutes.

These last two episodes, on the other hand, have had a few parts that I'd deem unnecessary, like perhaps the 'rapish' trannies, the skinny girl's shallow worries about getting fat, or the lotion scene. Not to mention having the stoic leadership figure Ridgett wearing the "risque" bikini [Bellows I understand, but Ridgett?], or the part where grown men are watching 14-16 year old girls gyrating in skimpy outfits. Now, being a 17 year old guy, I certainly don't mind me some fanservice, but that bit was actually kind of creepy.

At any rate, these last two certainly haven't been bad [especially this one, as it served for character building, romance, and to move the plot along in the form of Ledo getting a job that will obviously lead to the discovery of treasure plot devices], but they haven't been as great as the first four either.

This episode felt really slow again but the cliffhanger-type ending really made up for it. Chamber made an analysis and it seems to be that the white squid is recognized as Hideauze. I'm like 'holy shit!' Finally this anime is going places. Seeing Amy dancing and all was enjoyable but there were so many titty shots lol. Also, Bellows looks so hot, had to put it out there. xD

My thing is that Chamber knows the difference between an undersea creature and a Hideauze. He's identified sea creatures for Red, and yet he states that this creature is a 99.97% confirmed Hideauze. So what's up?

A regular squid can't be the same as the Hideauze since the Hideauze obviously can survive and fly around in space, as well as are predatory to humans. So how can the two species be that similar? I can see 75% or 80% but 99.97%?!

I don't mind fanservice (most of the time), but it annoyed me a bit in this episode. It just doesn't feel necessary for this show. I also don't like the overtly forced camera perspectives of fanservice like what is displayed in the first GIF image in the first post of this thread. It reminded me of High School of the Dead (I absolutely hated the fanservice in that show). Hopefully...this is as bad as it gets for this show (referring to the fanservice, not the show itself).

Edit:

These are my thoughts as well. I'm not one of those people that only want action...I'm fine with slice-of-life material, but those unnecessary things (in my opinion) from the last couple of episodes have hampered my enjoyment of the show.

At dinner when Bellows was arguing the blonde guy(forget his name all the time) he wasn't even paying attention to them but to Amy, Saaya, and Melty dancing on stage. The fanservice in this context worked for me for what it was trying to establish with Ledo

Good episode but..

I think the biggest problem with SnG is that the first 5 minutes of episode 1 gave everyone false hope about what this anime would be or at least most of it. Its genre is closer to a slice of life than action mecha. Anyway hopefully we get some action in the last few episode at least.

As always, the animation and artwork was really beautiful.

For those who watched the preview trailer it was exactly like what the series is panning out to be.

Also this dance makes me wish for a full animated dance from Morgiana... not the 10 second clip we got. Awesome bit in the manga to skimp on :/

Pretty much this.
The only thing to add here is stating the obvious - Bellows is hot, way more so than the rest. Steal and upgrade Yoko's design - pure win.
