The manga has its moments, the wonderful and dreamy types that made me fall in love with YKK. Unfortunately it is no YKK. The story is less personal, and I realize it's fiction but I doubt any pilot could read the manga without cringing from Ashinano's ignorance toward aviation safety.

Chs. 15-24 are out, by the way!

hehe, I know :D

I am keeping track of the manga with my "all mangas reader" app in chrome :)

Maybe the rules aren't taken too narrowly but it's still fun :P

I kinda have the same feels with this manga as with YKK but I do agree with you :)

I think Ashinano's really taking it easy with this manga, and not necessarily in a good way. One of his trademarks is to let the reader just stare at the beautiful backgrounds, usually along with the character, and this worked well in YKK because his backgrounds were detailed and beautiful, sometimes even giving us a treat by using color. This manga's art is over-simplified, it's just really hard to convey the depth and beauty of the sky with a few lines and no screentones, and sadly he doesn't bother to do much but that: some lines. The character's designs too, have become over-simplified to a detrimental point. While I enjoyed the more stylized lines that he developed if you compared the beginning and end of YKK, here's a bit too much on the simple side. Stylized art can be seen as lazy if one goes too much on that side, just like too detailed of a style can clutter the pages.

Story-wise is quite nice to read, but as agreed it's no YKK. A lot of moments depend heavily in what the character is looking and by proxy feeling, and it's very hard to be awed when all we see at over-simplified backgrounds or really, not background at all.

I know I'm giving a huge jab to the art but that was a big part of why YKK was amazing, because he'd try to convey beautiful art alongside the story and it worked perfectly.
