THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Starting out a new series is always a challenge to present it nicely so people watch it. This series and first episode were mind-blowing to say the least. We are presented immediately with the following,

Along with the spoiler
suggests a major tragedy and dead. A quick start to a gruesome more deaths to follow up. YUP! This is war period in China and suffice to say it’s shown really well in terms of wounds being dealt and weapons used. Blood is not shy in this series nor death itself. The MC’s main way of dealing with all the death was handled nicely. I liked he was showing emotions but it did not stop him in going forwards. That being said I really like the MC small kid in the following,

Proves his strength from the start. This kid will only develop stronger and nicer. His progress is what I am looking forward to. His appearance in the spoiler
shows clearly of how aggressive he may be in fights.

While the Emperor in the spoiler
is one mean looking kid! Kid kills someone on orders and even killed before. Rather insane but a historical fact it was like that some time ago in China. His face was perfectly EVIL!

So from all this why would one watch this? For the action, for the fact compared to this anime:
http://myanimelist.net/anime/5226/Souten_Kouro
The people are more child like, which IMO raises the enjoyment of this period for the more innocent they die the more stimulation it creates whether RAGE or SADNESS or WTF O_O It also affects more kids since they are shown to be like them.

I am watching it mainly to know of its outcome and child psychology in both characters in the series and what IRL people think of it.

9/10 might be 8 or 10 depends on how it flows. What do you think of this so far?

Yeah thanks, I was thinking they portrayed Chinese in Japanese setting but it seems it's the old Romance of the 3 kingdoms setting. The problem with these kind of settings is many times they were mixed around so RAW really can be confusing with these types but visually it was nice I admit. Drama wise.

Oh and no idea of subs or anyone doing this series. It's a long commitment after all based on the episode count.

The story setting is a lot older of Three kingdom. The story is in the kingdom of Qin. There are over 400 years difference between the two periods.

I hope see sub soon. I know a raw who make 617 MB for a episode of 50 min

Well... I think it's ok and all, the story is fine, the characters as well.

There's just 1 thing that bothers me to no end, the CGI. I can't stand it.

I really wanted to like this, but unfortunately, I just can't because of the laughably ugly CGI.

The 2D animation looks very good but the CGI...
It's not that ugly but I'd prefer the 2D animation.
The music sounds good and opening and ending are great.
Hopefully the story is good and the characters are comprehensible otherwise this Anime loses because of the CGI.

The Sengoku period in China, before Qin dynasty, after the Spring-Autumn period, had 7 major kingdoms.

I did not read the original manga so I'm not sure how much will it stick to the history.
The history was very 'colorful' as the interactions among the kingdoms were complex, many primitive forms of philosophy/policies/strategies were traced back to this period and the earlier Spring-Autumn period.

This is set in probably THE MOST INTERESTING AND FASCINATING period in the lands of what is currently known as China. The Spring and Autumn periods.

This is the period where most Chinese philosophical schools thrived. This is also the period where war strategies and complex and different political systems were implemented in small kingdoms. A defining period of Chinese imperial civilization.

Also the story of the Qin emperor. The epic but cruel machine-like rule that "unified" the kingdoms for a short period of time (easily fell apart after his death since he was micromanagement freak)
bla bla bla
The endless debate between fans and haters. At one point, after spending a lot of time on MAL, you just realize it's totally pointless.

^Actually no. The first episode is 50min. It's not first and second episode. It's not like this is the first time they did this, and also most Japanese TV shows usually have a longer first episode, so why not do it in anime? Kinda made the whole episode better. If they made this as two separate episodes (like with Aquarion Evol) it wouldn't be as good as this.

The CGI...was bad during the fight scenes. Unlike the hilarious moves in Berserk, watching the duels in Kingdom was kinda embarassing. But like everyone's saying, the other scenes were good enough to cover this mess.

My only complaint is that I pretty much agree with what everyone has to say about the awful CGI. It was hard to watch the animation because of it, especially the fights; they (the fights) were hilarious. Seriously? Lol! I preferred the CGI that was used when Shin was crying over his friend's body. It was more detailed/natural looking and it fitted more with the period.
Also, overall, the CGI used in this episode was inconsistent. It keeps going back and forth with the awful CGI and the detailed CGI. It should stick to one format.
Everything else looks good so far.

Well, the animation could be better, but on the other hand plot seems promising and the characters are good. I think this will surely be worth watching. I'm a little disappointed with the villain, a fucking brat, but maybe there will be some cool ones too. That assassin dude is badass. Looking forward to next episode.

Love the story so I'll continue anyway.

The story of the rise of the Qin interests me, I haven't seen this yet but from the screenshots in the OP's post this looks kind of dumb. Can anyone say something about this other than the CGI, for instance is this "serious" like the Romance of the Three Kingdoms anime or is this childishly retarded like Bleach or Naruto or that kind of thing? From the OP's screenshots it seems to be the latter, can anyone clarify this for me?

Most people don´t like watching anime with CG covering about 80% of the episode only to change to traditional style from time to time, from which I include myself, I´d rather have tons of QUALITY than this.
Plus, this style of animation looks...awkward and unfitting to this kind of show, to put it nicely, as it’s not especially attractive and the character movements in the CG sequences are jerky and artificial.
I think the plot has potential, and the writing and directing showed to be enjoyable enough despite its shortcomings in the technical apartment, so I might keep watching it, however the dilemma is this: the CG is painful to watch, and I doubt everyone will get past the first episode, which makes it a real shame...

This is an anime that is serious, there is great potential, it is far from being a shonen. From what I saw with the manga, it'll be faithful. But I'm sure it do like the 12 kingdoms (stopped at some point). The manga is to 26 volumes .

Well I watched it based on what you said, I think you're wrong though this is clearly a shonen but it's not too bad, as these things go. It's hardly what I'd call "serious" though, what with that boy beating up about 20 armed men with a wooden stick and some people having "monsterish" forms and other silly and outlandish superhuman features. I'll probably stick with it for a few more episodes to see how it develops though, as these kind of things aren't in it constantly and bits of it seem a bit more interesting.

You, sir, deserve a medal. Refreshing to see someone who clearly knows the difference between shounen & other genres, and doesnt mix up the characteristics of "shounen" with those of "anime" itself.

Yes the story has potential but it has been "child-ifed" which kinda harms the potential. The people who want to watch "a historical anime" won't like seeing a little brat hurl people around with his bokken, and the kids that open their eyes wide and jump in excitement when the brat hurls people will fail to comprehend the historical setting. The audience will consist of older teens and young adults that "tolerate" the childishness for the story, so yeah, "child-ifying" this series was was stupid move.

Don't even get me started on the "fake Disney" animation..

All that said, I will be watching this because it can still be enjoyed.

Those who do not agree on CG, go read the manga. (From somewhere else, it's always better to read a historical manga that the anime) The night scene of fighting in the village is more real in the manga.

I do not consider either a seinen, it is much that certain subject just went further that a shonen. It will depend on how the evolution of the anime. But if we talk about the main character this is on it is totally shonen .

Like the character Zheng who will become the empeureur Qin Shi Huang and have declared the Qin dynasty. How will it change when you know that the dynasty only lasted too little and they were not very popular.

Otherwise, I do not care avout CG

OUCH! I hope they reverse that somehow. I did not read the manga but certainly this is alarming if I though the anime is realistic enough for me.

Hmmmmmmmm, I hope you can confirm this when the anime does make it better than the manga.

Not watching. The CGI ruined everything. Not to sound like a total art snob, but I couldn't make it through half of this episode. I have no idea why they even bother with this CGI shit really, it's not necessary nor does it look good. Like, at all. And when you have some parts that are 2D and others that aren't.. It just doesn't flow well.

I've had a look at the manga now, the anime so far is quite a literal animation of the manga. So the anime isn't any more or less "serious" than the manga, if anything seeing how it develops in the manga and given that it's been quite a literal animation so far I think I may well drop this, too silly for me.
